Former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations/ national security advisor Susan Rice offered up some strident criticism of U.S. senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina this week, calling the flip-flopping neoconservative lawmaker a “piece of sh*t” on a popular liberal podcast.
“Lindsey Graham isn’t just a piece of sh*t now,” former Barack Obama spokesman and co-host Tommy Vietor began to remark during Rice’s appearance on the Pod Save The World show.
“He’s been a piece of sh*t,” Rice interjected. “I said it, I said it damnit. He’s a piece of sh*t.”

Wow …
What was it Michelle Obama famously said?
“When they go low …”
Apparently respect (like tolerance, fairness, justice, equality, etc.) is a one-way street with some people …
The other irony at work here? Until his cravenly calculated flip from #NeverTrump Republican to vocal supporter of U.S. president Donald Trump (which, ironically, he is now in the process of unwinding) Graham was regarded as Obama’s “best GOP ally” in Washington, D.C.
How quickly “friends” fade, right?
Meanwhile, a metaphor about feeding tigers comes to mind …
Obviously this news outlet has had strong words for Graham in the past. In assailing him on matters of policy we have probably approached – or perhaps even crossed – the line leapfrogged by Rice with her recent comments.
A red line, if you will …
Given our prior criticism, we will refrain from clutching our pearls too tightly in response to this profanity-laden outburst from Rice …
We will say this, however: When it comes to providing effective accountability over those in positions of authority, it has been our experience that substantive criticism – imbued with interpretive and ideological consistency – are far more potent weapons than name-calling and penny-ante partisan invective.
Graham may be exactly what Rice says he is, but she is not winning anyone but lowest common denominator thinkers to her way of thinking by attacking him in such a manner.
