Friends,

Fifteen years ago I was a brand new prosecutor in the Upstate of South Carolina trying to work with law enforcement, help victims get justice and preserve public safety. But I needed help. Lots of it. And another prosecutor from the Upstate of South Carolina – named Tommy Pope – gave and lent me counsel, advice, support, and the full weight of his own experience in law enforcement and prosecution.

I have remained friends with Tommy Pope ever since.

I need his help again. In the House of Representatives. Tommy is uniquely qualified to serve in these times. We have what will perhaps be a once in a lifetime opportunity to govern, to restore respect for and adherence to the rule of law, to increase our national security, provide real economic opportunity to our fellow South Carolinians who want to work or want to work more, and to restore the constitutional integrity that made this the greatest country the world has ever known.

Tommy spent a lifetime fighting for truth and justice. Tommy is not afraid to take on huge challenges. Tommy has the ability to lead, the humility to know how to lead, and the courage to chart his own course for the betterment of the people he works for.

South Carolinians are connected to one another in so many different ways. We want many of the same things for our families and our communities. There is much work to be done and this is our time. Tommy would be an ideal colleague to bring about the change we so desperately want in our country.

I would respectfully ask my friends in South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District to give me one more chance to fight alongside, work with and advocate for South Carolina shoulder to shoulder with Tommy Pope.

Respectfully,

Trey Gowdy
