Ted Vick Popped For DUI … Again

S.C. Rep. Ted Vick – whose 2012 congressional campaign was derailed by the mother of all DUI arrests – has been busted again for driving under the influence.

According to Richland County court records, Vick was arrested for DUI late Tuesday in downtown Columbia, S.C. Details regarding the arrest were not immediately available, although multiple sources tell FITS the lawmaker was busted inside the S.C. State House parking garage by agents of the S.C. Bureau of Protective Services (SCBPS).

Wow …

The favorite to win the Democratic nomination for South Carolina’s newly drawn seventh congressional district, Vick’s campaign imploded last May when he was pulled over by City of Columbia, S.C. police officers and charged with speeding, DUI and possession of an unregistered firearm. As if that wasn’t enough, it was later revealed that a 21-year-old woman was in the car with the part-time pastor (and proclaimer of “family values”) at the time of his arrest.

No word yet on whether Vick’s latest DUI bust is another “grand slam” or just a solid “seeing eye single.”

Either way, it’s drawing all sorts of negative scrutiny – including one Facebook commenter who referred to him as “the Charlie Sheen of the SC General Assembly.”

Ha!

Vick – who is tight with all sorts of unsavory characters back in his corrupt-as-hell home of Cheraw, S.C. – has served in the S.C. House of Representatives since 2005. The forty-year-old lawmaker is married with two children (that we know of).

UPDATE: Addressing some of the comments, the reason this arrest was listed as a “first offense DUI” for Vick is that his arrest from last May has yet to be resolved. Accordingly, he now has two pending DUI charges against him.

UPDATE II: Wow. Ted Vick’s attorney is legendary shyster Todd Rutherford, one of his fellow Democrats in the S.C. House. And wait till you read Rutherford’s excuse for Vick’s arrest …

Help me out someone. An unregistered firearm? That implies that you must have a CWP in SC. If you purchase a firearm from a dealer it is registered. If you buy it from an individual it is still legal unless it was previously reported stolen. CWP’s aren’t mandatory and SC still has the briefcase law.

Carrying without the CWP would be possession of a concealed weapon without a license. If it was under his seat, same thing. In a glove compartment, console, etc. it’s legal so long as its not stolen and he is not a felon.

Unregistered must mean that it was obtained from the factory and never registered. Also, I’m told that it is illegal for law enforcement to keep records on firearm registries, ala the SLED scandal where records were kept off-site in a storage locker somewhere.

Maybe off topic, so okay, this dude must have a drinking problem not to mention that someone is watching him very closely for some reason. But what gives on the gun law deal?

Reply
CorruptionInColumbia May 15, 2013 at 11:23 am

Your point is well-taken. Fits used some (rare for them) bad terminology. When Vick was arrested last year, as I recall, he was found with a gun on him at the jail. The arresting officer missed it in the initial arrest and transport phase of things. His CWP had expired quite a few years earlier, therefore he was carrying illegally. Also, even if his permit had been valid, he failed to follow the law and announce to officers on first contact that he was a CWP holder and was carrying.

I keep it in the barn next to my tractor. No shit. I’ve got a six pack of 17 year olds and a bottle of absolute with a nipple on it sitting across the seats. The good sheriff happened to be the uncle of one of the young ladies. I got charged with contributing but the cop said he couldn’t charge me for the DUI cause I owned the cornfield. He wanted my ass bad. Thing is, the old lady that called didn’t know it was me. She called because she thought some teenagers had stolen my Grand Prix.

I don’t think his drinking is any worse than the average South Carolinian who drinks and drives all the time. Look at the horse races in Camden and Landrum-Tryon, People are plastered coming out of there and no one picks them up. As long as you don’t kill or maim, you should be able to drink and drive. The road is common property paid for by all taxpayers, sober or drunk.

Could you please post the Civil Action Numbers for the 2012 and 2013 DUI charges that are pending in Common Pleas Court in Richland County. There is no record at all of the 2012 charge, and since there was reportedly a “Computer Clerical error” earlier in the summer, there should definitely be a case number when you search for Ted Vick as these are public records. Research shows there is a General Sessions pending weapons charge for Ted M. Vick from May 24, 2012….http://www4.rcgov.us/PublicIndex/PICaseDetails.aspx?County=40+&Casenum=K651721&CourtType=G&CaseType=Criminal&CourtAgency=40001&LastName=Vick&FirstName=Ted

Fred, I agree completely. There is NO paper trail at all, that I can find, where the first DUI (which went viral on FB and Youtube) was even recorded! I see NOTHING. If it was dropped, there should be (1) a Common Pleas Civil Action Number assigned to the case; (2) a clocked-in Motion for a Hearing; (3) a docket with the hearing date, the case number, the attorneys involved and the judge’s name; (4) the proposed Motion to Dismiss the DUI claim presented in that hearing; and (5) the clocked-in and recorded Motion to Dismiss the DUI arrest. If it was dropped, that is what we should be able to see publicly. The court alone has the authority to dismiss (not drop) a case of this nature, because it is civil court. Thus, if there is no paper trail, it appears that somehow the court never even recorded the DUI charge at all. ……and that is not only wrong, but it is not legal. It is not called “getting the case dropped”, it is called “paying someone off to make it disappear”. That is why I want to see the paper trail. I have asked several attorneys and to this date, no one can produce that. It should take 5 minutes to find on the Richland County Clerk of Court website online. http://www.rcgov.us

Ted’s been bragging recently that the first one has been dropped. FITS Should check to see if that is true. The fact that Ted got DUI #2 is no surprise, but the first news to break that the first DUI has disappeared will have a story on their hands.

Now we know why we could never get Vicks help with making stricter DUI laws. He is one of them. I can’t believe the people of chesterfield county voted him back in. The people of power in chesterfield county should be held accountable for their actions and made an example of.
