EVEN WITH FULLY INFLATED BALLS …

|| By FITSNEWS ||  New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady and his fully inflated balls (footballs, people … footballs) won their fourth Super Bowl championship (and first in ten years) on Sunday.  Trailing the defending world champion Seattle Seahawks 24-14 in the fourth quarter, Brady took the field with twelve minutes on the clock and was promptly sacked by Seattle linebacker Bruce Ervin.

Things looked bad …

The “Curse of Gisele” – a reference to the Patriots’ failure to win a championship since Brady started dating supermodel Gisele Bundchen – appeared to be alive and well.  Bill Nye the “science guy” was mocking Brady’s inability to handle fully inflated footballs.  Brady’s legions of female admirers were dealing with “heart palpitations.”

“Uh-oh,” one texted us.

And of course our founding editor – a 27-year Indianapolis Colts’ fan still reeling from his team’s latest loss to the Pats – was schadenfreuding every second of Brady’s misery.

But then Brady did what Brady does … and has done for the last decade-and-a-half: He calmly, methodically and consistently made plays.  Big plays.  In the clutch.  On the biggest stage in sports.

On the first of two must-score drivers, Brady marched his team down the field 68 yards (76 yards if you count the sack) – completing five of seven passes including a pair of clutch third down throws to wide receiver Julian Edelman.

When the Patriots’ defense gave him the ball back with less than seven minutes left (now trailing 24-21), Brady did it again – completing eight-of-eight passes including the game-winning strike to Edelman.

Calm. Methodical. Consistent.

Of course his latest heroics – the latest installment in what is arguably the NFL’s greatest legacy of heroism – almost didn’t matter.  Seattle’s offense drove the football all the way down to the Patriots one-yard-line as the clock ticked under half a minute – leaving the reigning heavyweight champions one hard-nosed play away from a second consecutive title.

But that’s when the Seahawks – employing the worst offensive play call in Super Bowl history – inexplicably attempted to throw for a touchdown rather than give the football to bruising running back Marshawn Lynch.  Disaster ensued.  Quarterback Russell Wilson‘s pass was intercepted by undrafted rookie free agent Malcolm Butler in the end zone with twenty seconds left – immediately shifting the storyline from the new dynasty in Seattle to the legend of Tom Brady.

And what a legend it is …

Brady ranks fifth on the NFL’s career regular season passing yardage and touchdown charts.  He is the third-winningest starting quarterback in NFL history.  But what distinguishes the former sixth round draft pick – and what makes him the greatest player ever to play his position (God, we hate saying that) – is his postseason prowess.

Brady has four Super Bowl wins under his belt now – tying his boyhood idol Joe Montana for the NFL record. The four quarterbacks who rank ahead of him in regular season passing yardage and touchdowns?  They’ve combined for just three Super Bowl victories.

Brady also has three Super Bowl MVP awards to his credit (also tying Montana) – and he is the NFL’s all-time postseason leader in victories, passing yardage and touchdowns.

Again, we hate saying it because we detest the Patriots – and we’re sure their latest cheating scandal will cause some to (rightfully) question their success – but the bottom line is Tom Brady isn’t just the biggest “big game” quarterback in NFL history, he is the best quarterback period.

Love him, hate him … it’s just not really up for debate anymore.

Why not enjoy them in person? My twin cousins Maybelle and Lulubelle are Amazons. They live half-way between Flippin and Yellville, just 3.4 miles off the main highway. Look for the big 2-story house at the Dusty Crossroads. Don’t mention my name.

Bless you, GT. Only you could compare FITS work regarding the Patriots/Deflate-Gate/Super Bowl with Nov 5. Leave it alone. Sounds like FITS is taking his medicine over this.

Just so I’m getting this straight..you’re essentially saying anyone that doesn’t like the Patriots is a liberal? But the Patriots are based out of one the most liberal states in America?

Have you ever thought about how screwed up your “logic” is?

I’m saying the media (liberals) were in the tank ALL week for the Seahawks..
The media was P!$$#D as H#!! that Seattle lost. Liberal Chris Collingsworth S#!t all over himself…and some dude on the NBC postgame show had smoke coming out of his hears, bitching about the play call, as their excuse (just as Collingsworth did…)..
Not to mention you HATE Bellicheck..because he more or less wins while telling the NFL to kiss-@$$ with all of its liberal causes…
Of course you play ignorant (or is it real) when you get your @$$#$ kicked…LMAO…

Well..if “some dude” on the postgame news appeared upset, then obviously, anyone who doesn’t lockstep believe what you do must be a liberal, amiright?

And when did I get my ass kicked? That hasn’t happened since about the 2nd grade. And I hate Bellicheck? When did that happen?

You just aren’t very smart.

If you don’t pay attention, and understand the template..it may be a good idea to STFU…

Otherwise you look like a Dumb@$$…as you do…LMAO…

E Norma Scok February 2, 2015 at 1:57 pm

I understand YOUR template…if anyone doesn’t think lockstep as you do, they are a liberal. Even when it comes down to sports teams. Amazing.

At least you are consistent. And as usual, you can’t answer and are reduced to ad homs and non sequiturs.

You are really the dim bulb.

grandtangosuglydog February 2, 2015 at 1:58 pm

Nailed it!

GrandTango February 2, 2015 at 2:02 pm

The liberal sports media attacked N.E. all week.

Now there are some reports that only one football was significantly under-inflated. So that is even looking like a lie made up to go after the Patriots…And the liberal media squealed when the Patriots won…

If you deny that, you’re a Dumb@$$..well, you’re a Dumb@$$ anyway…but trying to deny it just confirms your Dumb@$$ery…LMAO…But that’s not a surprise w/ liberals…you always run from what you are, when exposed…

You know who the dumbass is? The guy who predicted Robert Kraft would be audited b/c he is conservative. Until it was discovered he donated a shitload of money to Obama and Democrats. Who was that guy? Oh, that’s right, it was you, fuckhead.

“Chris Collingsworth” may be a liberal, but NBC’s Cris Collinsworth is a Republican and 100% of his donations go to the GOP. You want to get caught up in that RINO/Liberal-tarian bullshit, fine, but he is a Republican. Other than the fact that you are batshit crazy, it is any wonder your “blog” failed? Try using same facts for once.

It’s pretty moving to watch a pampered professional jock show more patriotism than the Democratic candidate for president, more pride in his country than the democratic candidate’s wife, and more awareness of this country’s opportunities than a liberal NBC announcer.

“…employing the worst offensive play call in Super Bowl history…”

And if Lockette had made the catch he and Wilson would have been hailed as heroes and Carroll would have been called a genius. Despite his greatness, Lynch had been stuffed a couple of times and “…Everybody knew the play call. At least, everybody knew the play that should be called…” Which is exactly why you don’t call that play.

“Which is exactly why you don’t call that play.”

You’re wrong here. It was 2nd down! 2nd friggin down!

You play smashmouth and try it twice before desperation, or at least give them something to think about on the 2nd attempt if you decide not to run it again & do play action.

You’ve got one the best backs in the game currently and you do that?

Dumb, dumb call.

The Colonel February 2, 2015 at 12:24 pm

40 seconds left, against a team with an offense that can score with less.

According to Carroll: “… He saw the Patriots bring in a goal-line formation with eight big guys and three cornerbacks and didn’t think Lynch, who tied for the league lead with 13 touchdowns rushing this season, would be able to bull it in against that defense.(Lynch had been stopped by New England earlier) “…It’s not a great matchup for us to run the football, so we were going to throw the ball, really to waste a play…If we score, we do, if we don’t, we’ll run it in on third or fourth down…” There was no guarantee that Lynch could have bulled his way in. A simple throw and catch , paticularly targeted against a defensive back that had been the “window man” at Popeyes last year wasn’t that big a risk – hindsight is almost always 20/20.

Was it necessarily a “great idea” – no? Did it almost work – yes.

No way February 2, 2015 at 12:34 pm

“Had they scored n the 3rd quarter instead of kicking a field goal it would have been a moot point.”

The Kearse bouncy crotch catch was pure luck too.

All that being said, you still run the ball at least one more time with three downs to play with. It’s almost risk free.

Best quarterback? Geeze, come on dude. Brady’s an OK player, but really we can’t even gauge how good he or the Patriots even are because of their rampant cheating. Even so, I’ll give you he’s good. Best, though? Please.

Didn’t you have a crush on Peyton anyways?

Reply
grandtangosuglydog February 2, 2015 at 11:38 am

Gotta disagree a bit, im not a patriots fan but 4 rings and the whole deflategate bs was just that ..BS. Remember they went to officials balls after the first half and they scored how many unanswered points against the Colts? I dont like the pats but I respect that they consistently win and they do without first round draft picks most of the time.

Fox News covered deflate-gate extensively over the past 2 weeks. I guess that makes them part of the liberal propaganda machine too.

Put down the bong, you paranoid clown.

GrandTango February 2, 2015 at 6:58 pm

Maybe Fox News is A LOT more like its liberal brethren than you paranoid leftwing nutjobs want to let on….

Maybe the charges against them as right-leaning are just mythology like so much of the Bull-S#!t ya’ll buy into…

Other than Shaun, and a couple others (who ADMIT they are Conservative) FOX is moderate to liberal….And I don’t watch it very much anyway…so I cannot verify your claim about the deflated balls…Fox does not do that much sports……

But I do know you’re a F*#*king idiot (goes w/o saying) if you don’t think there is a left-based bias against the Patriots…
