By FITSNEWS || Two Louisiana high school teachers are accused of having three-way sex with a 17-year-old student.
Shelley S. Dufresne, 32, (pictured) and Rachel Respess, 24, of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana are both facing felony charges of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile in connection with the incident.
Respess was the student’s English teacher last year, while Dufresne is his current teacher. The relationships reportedly began when the student was 16 years old. In Louisiana, the age of consent for sexual activity is 17.
According to local police chief Michael Glaser, the two teachers met the student during a high school football game two weeks ago and drove to Respess’ apartment where the three of them “had sex simultaneously until the early morning hours.”

Dufresne and Respess are both graduates of Louisiana State University and Destrehan High School, which is where the boy attends school. Respess is single, while Dufresne is married with three children.

Our bottom line? It’s wrong – but shouldn’t always be deemed criminal. If the student involved in the relationship is over the state’s legal age of consent, we don’t see the lawlessness. Certainly any teacher who engages in sexual acts with a student should lose his or her job – a market-based consequence – but if we’re dealing with consensual sex between individuals who are “of age,” should such escapades really result in criminal prosecutions?
We don’t think so … which is why we oppose the South Carolina law that criminalizes such behavior even if the student is over the Palmetto State’s 16-year-old age of consent.

Pray tell, if it is “…wrong…” but “…not…deemed criminal…” how do you propose we stop/prevent it? I’ll grant that “criminals will do what criminals will do” but a surprising number of people stay on the “straight and narrow” simply out of fear of the repercussions if they get caught.

Is a teacher that has sex with a student over the age of consent automatically guilty of statutory rape? No. Have they still committed a crime? That’s arguable. I think if you’re hired by the public and given authority over teenagers, you should be held to a stricter standard than some other random person, even if the child is over the age of consent. Hell, even if they aren’t a minor.
But then, does this apply to all educational institutions? Does it apply to colleges? That’s tough to answer. I don’t know what the right answer is. Maybe that means it’s a bit hypocritical, I don’t know.
I just think that even if the kid was above the age of consent the entire time, the teachers didn’t just do something entirely unprofessional, they betrayed the public’s trust in them. Never letting them teach in public school again is obvious, but I don’t feel it’s enough.

The reason our culture get’s up in arms about it is complex, but a couple of major issues are this:
#1 If a young girl gets knocked up by an older guy it’s effectively taken away the rest of her youth(unlike a young boy in the reverse, where an older women can care for the kid while he moves on from his mistake)
#2 Our society/culture still promotes men as the care takers of women in society as a whole(though that expectation/role is diminishing, thanks to LBJ’s policies), so from that lens, good or bad, we are more protective of women than men, PERIOD.
You can’t possibly compare three fags getting it on to this situation, aside from the fact that there’s no reasonable non-subjective way to determine when someone transtions from childhood to adulthood. Law declares certain ages, which vary state to state, because of local cultural differences…but it’s nothing more than a cleaver without much meanings.
