Obama: “I’m Sorry” About That Bogus Health Care Promise

U.S. President Barack Obama apologized to the millions of Americans who are losing their health care coverage as a result of his new socialized medicine law.

“I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me,” Obama said in an NBC News interview.

The admission comes days after reports revealed that the Obama administration knew as far back as the summer of 2010 that as many as 100 million Americans would lose their existing health care coverage under the law. Despite this, Obama continued to parrot his infamous “if you like your plan, you can keep it” promise through 2012.

“The Obama administration knew this was always a lie, and kept saying it anyway,” said Nathan Mehrens, president of Americans for Limited Government – one of the first groups to raise this issue three years ago. “While some elected officials in D.C. chose to keep their heads in the sand, this knowledge of the certain destruction of employer health plans is one of the many reasons why Americans for Limited Government fought to defund or delay the implementation of this disastrous law.”

Obama also offered another mea culpa on rammed through the U.S. Congress (by hook and crook) three-and-a-half years ago – a law which is currently suffering through a disastrous rollout.

“Obviously we didn’t do a good enough job in terms of how we crafted the law,” he told NBC. “And, you know, that’s something I regret. That’s something we’re gonna do everything we can to get fixed … We’re looking at a range of options.”

Really?

Is one of them repealing the law?

Or are there going to be a bunch of new totally illegal executive actions that arbitrarily alter the law?

Oh well … Obama is sorry. So that makes it all better. In fact go ahead a cue the sympathy from his Obamacare-fed allies in the mainstream media (he “owned it” and “took responsibility” etc.).

uhh excuse me, Bubba, but the women in Virginia voted strongly against Republican attempts to curtail reproductive rights. The fact that the Democrat won is a sign that the voters in Virginia FAVOR Obamacare. What alternative universe do you live in? The country is moving towards liberalism. Christie is a moderate person. The tide is against Tea Party and against the hateful policies of the GOP. The now Republican governor of Virginia may be indicted sometime this month for corruption Cuccinelli, the guy who lost the governor’s racein Virginia, supposedly hatched a plan to topple the current governor in a coup if he were indicted. And now – the rest of the story . . . . And since I’m no Rand Paul – want to make sure that everyone understands that the entire rest of this post is an opinion piece by Sally Kohn:

Editor’s note: Sally Kohn is a progressive activist, columnist and television commentator. Follow her on Twitter at @sallykohn.

(CNN) — The Obamacare website might still not be working, but journalists are. All across the country, as Republicans try to highlight tragic tales of Americans losing their current health insurance and allegedly stuck with more expensive options, journalists are coming to the rescue. In case after case, journalists investigated these stories and called the policyholders and combed the insurance exchange websites to bring actual facts to bear in our public debate about Obamacare.

Here are just some of the mythical stories journalists have helped dispel — and the lessons we can learn from them about the reality of the Affordable Care Act:

Deborah Cavallaro was making the rounds on television complaining about how her current insurance plan was canceled under Obamacare. So Los Angeles Times columnist Michael Hiltzik talked to her. Her current plan cost $293 per month but had a deductible of $5,000 per year and out-of-pocket annual limits of $8,500. Also, the current plan covered just two doctor’s visits per year.

But in the California insurance exchange, which Hiltzik helped Cavallaro check, she could get a “silver” plan for $333 per month — $40 more than she’s currently paying. But the new plan has only a $2,000 deductible and maximum out-of-pocket expenses at $6,350. Plus all doctor visits would be covered. Hiltzik writes, “Is that better than her current plan? Yes, by a mile.”

Dianne Barrette also popped up on television on a CBS news report in which she lamented that her $54-per-month insurance plan had been canceled under Obamacare. But Nancy Metcalf at Consumer Reports investigated Barrette’s story and found that her current policy was a “textbook example of a junk plan that isn’t real health insurance at all.” According to Metcalf, if Barrette had ever tried to use her insurance for anything more than a sporadic doctor’s visit, “she would have ended up with tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical debt.”

The plan, for instance, only pays for hospitalization in cases of “complications of pregnancy.” Instead, Metcalf found that Barrette could get a “silver” plan in the state insurance exchange for $165 per month that would actually cover Barrette in the case of any sort of serious or even moderate illness. Which is the very definition of insurance, isn’t it?

Democrats on edge over Obamacare

She lost health coverage, blames Obama

Edie Littlefield, a stage-four gallbladder cancer survivor, published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal blaming the Affordable Care Act for her canceled insurance policy. In her essay, Littlefield wrote that because of Obamacare, “I have been forced to give up a world-class health plan.” But as Igor Volsky of Think Progress reports, Littlefield’s insurer, United Healthcare, “dropped her coverage because they’ve struggled to compete in California’s individual health care market for years and didn’t want to pay for sicker patients like Sundby.”

In fact, in May, United basically announced it would pull out of the individual market in California so its competitors will get stuck with all the sicker patients like Littlefield signing up in the first wave of Obamacare. Then United plans to jump back into the California market to cover the cheaper patients. In other words, Littlefield isn’t losing her insurance because of Obamacare, she’s losing her insurance because her insurance company is cutthroat and greedy, just as insurance companies have always been.

According to a report by Dylan Scott at Talking Points Memo, a Seattle woman named Donna received a cancellation letter from her insurance company regarding her current plan. The letter steered Donna and her family into a more expensive option and said, “If you’re happy with this plan, do nothing.” The letter made no mention of the Washington State insurance exchange, where Donna could find plenty of other more affordable choices, because the company wanted a convenient excuse to jack up Donna’s rates.

Had Donna “done nothing,” she would have ended up spending about $1,000 more per month on insurance than the cost of insurance she ultimately chose through the Obamacare exchange. In fact, the practice of trying to mislead customers has become so widespread that Washington state regulators issued a consumer alert to customers.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Republicans who have been desperate from the very beginning to destroy Obamacare at any cost, regardless of facts or the urgent health care crisis facing America, will continue to dig up stories of people supposedly harmed by the law. And journalists will hopefully continue to investigate these allegations, helping us all sort fact from fiction.

In the meantime, there’s a side benefit to all this: If you are one of the small fraction of Americans who currently relies on the individual insurance market and has seen your current policy canceled, call a journalist — like one of those in the stories above. Reporters all across the country are hungry for real-life stories about how Obamacare is working.

Plus, most reporters have access to high-speed Internet. If you can’t get through to the Obamacare exchange site, there’s a journalist standing by willing to help you navigate the exchange options and explore your pros and cons in terms of costs and benefits. The website might still be glitchy, but old-fashioned shoe-leather reporting is as reliable as ever.

So people can’t keep their junk insurance and we’re complaining about it? That’s the case for a lot of these Obamacare “victims” that keep getting debunked, that they get FAR better plans for sometimes more, sometimes less.

We’re also forgetting that many individual plans are year-long contracts, and that a lot of people in the individual market keep their plans for less than a year.

The median length of new individual-coverage spells was eight months. Nearly half of all spells lasted less than six months, and two-thirds lasted one year or less. Although this suggests that the majority of individual-coverage spells were short, a sizable minority of those covered had long spells. Roughly one-sixth (17 percent) of those with individual insurance coverage retained it for more than two years.

http://content.healthaffairs.org/content/23/6/210.full#R14

As for that 17%, if they got their plan before the cutoff date (somewhere in 2010 IIRC) then they do get to keep it as it is grandfathered in.

A vast majority of this is much ado about nothing. I’m sure there are a number of people who get the short end of the stick, but there are vast numbers of people who stand to gain from this, especially people fucked over by the insurance industry who haven’t been able to buy insurance for a long ass time.

My insurance was not “junk” it was appropriate and costly but affordable. Now it is inappropriate for me and expensive. So as an unemployed person buying an individual policy, the only way to qualify for a subsidy which is personally abhorrent to me, is to get a divorce, but I probably will still need to pony up a high in network deductible annually from my retirement savings. Keep drinking the Koolaid as we glide into your goal of a full fledged national health service.

The Kenyan did not really apologize. Chuck Todd asked, “Do you feel you owe these folks an apology?” Then the idiot President malfeasance said, “I regret very much that what we intended to do, which is make sure everybody is moving into better plans because they want ’em as opposed to because they are forced into it that, you you know we weren’t as clear as we needed to be in terms of the changes that were taking place. Blah, blah, blah, … and I am sorry they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me. What damnable apology?

Reply

The “but” apologies are the worst. Not only are they not sincere they usually end up transferring blame back upon the victim.

It’s a sociopathic hallmark in their interpersonal relationships and would be expected in their general dealings as well.

I know a lot of people are having fun with this “Obama lied” thing, but I have to ask, would people who are finding that their current policies are being cancelled be in a different situation if Obama had said nothing?

The PPACA set minimum standards for health insurance policies. Supposedly, policies that met the PPACA standards would be “grandfathered” and could continue after PPACA goes into effect, as long as the plans were not significantly changed after enactment in 2010 — or, of course, cancelled by the insurance company for their own reasons.

If Obama had never uttered those words he now regrets, every one of those policies that do not meet the PPACA standards would be discontinued, and all of the other policies that are being cancelled by the insurers would still be cancelled.

Charlemagne, King of France November 8, 2013 at 11:11 am

If Obama had said nothing he wouldnt have had the same support. a lot of people who already had insurance were on the fense about it and the fact that “they could keep their current plan” made them feel better about it.

An admission of being wrong is not the same as an admission of a LIE. Certainly the critics of Obamacare called him out for these untruths three or more years ago. Obama and his tools rather viciously and unequivocally denied any opponent claims and he discredited these people at that time and continues to do so…all for the 2012 vote. So for him to act as though he was broadsided and dumbfounded by this crisis is disingenuous. As an example, my individual policy doesn’t cover maternity care or pediatric care so $470 a month goes to $582 a month and my deductible goes from $1500 in-network/$5000 out of network to $5000 in network/$10,000 out of network and boo-hoo no subsidies for me. Can’t wait to find out if I still have my same doctors!

If you break this down into parts even you could understand, we can see that the lies are well founded in that the bill was shoddy, undebated, and passed with bribes or kickbacks.

1) The Employer Mandate have been given an delayed till 2015.

2) The Individual Mandate is in full force with full compliance by April 2014 or penalties kick in.

3) Rather than upgrade individual policies to include the ten essential health benefits the PPACA federally mandates under penalty of law, insurance companies dropped individual coverage.

4) The Ten Essential Health Benefits all health insurance policies must provide under penalty of federal law are:

a) outpatient care
b) rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices
c) emergency room visits
d) hospitalization
e) lab tests
f) maternity and newborn care
g) preventative services and chronic disease care
h) prescription drugs
i) mental health and substance abuse treatment
j) pediatric services including vision and dental coverage.

5) When the employer mandate delays expire, public and private employers MUST include all ten health benefit services to their policy plans.

6) Therefore, there will be wholesale cancellations by Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina of group policies which includes state/public employers and private sector employers who simply will drop coverage for their employees.

OR

7) Massive group policy premium rate increases and mammoth chaos with higher deductibles and out of network penalties since out of network means outside the physical boundaries of a particular county.

Conclusion: The discovery of lies from Democrats regarding healthcare policies, costs, penalties created by PPAC Act, President Obama’s signature domestic policy has only just begun.

Outrage over Obamacare! This is the last straw!! What a laugh. Think about it. Obamacare is of cosmic insignificance. People are rightfully indignant about the President’s inability to distinguish between fact and fiction. This is to say nothing of his serial denials of a host of government misdeeds ranging from Bengahzi to the IRS scandal. What consequences will the Big O face; absolutely none. He will not be hounded from office like Richard Nixon. He will finish his term and go on to a nice high paying, largely symbolic position at some University or law firm. Michelle, for the second time in her life, will be “truly proud of her country.” His children will never have to work a day in their lives.

What does this mean to the ever shrinking portion of the American population that works and takes responsibility for providing for themselves and their families? Other than screwing up your relationship with your doctor and totaling altering the way that the doctor you wind up seeing treats your ailments; not much. That is, if you are still in a position to receive health care at all. That is to say, if your insurance hasn’t been arbitrarily canceled by the United States government.

Obamacare is a small price to pay for social equality and preserving the self-esteem of the poor and those less fortunate than ourselves. Even though there is mandatory education and a plethora of social programs to aid these unfortunates; choices must be made. Unlike the rest of us, going to school and getting a job did not fit in with their well thought out master plan for life. Remember those who wear their baseball caps in that incredibly stupid sideways manner, have difficulty in keeping their pants up and chew with their mouths open (so you can see the cool dental work they’ve had done) are depending on you. So what if they are unemployed and have a fondness for “blunts” and stolen firearms? Would you really begrudge them the simple pleasures of life? Those artistic neck tattoos are a rugged statement of individuality. To be cool, respected and to stand out in the hood is a challenge every day for them! The life of a deadbeat thug is not without stress! Imagine the humiliation of not owning a hoodie! If you don’t have a couple of bastard kids the other guys think you are gay. How many iPhones do you think you have to steal to pay for a good hood ornament on a gold filled chain? How long before time catches up and you can no longer outrun the Po-Po? Trying to carry off a decent sized flat screen can destroy your back. When will your number come up and you try to roll some dude who turns out to have a concealed carry permit? Grabbing for the last master cylinder in the cooler could land you in the ER. Health care is not an option for our feral fellow citizens. It is a necessity. Since we already foot the bill for all the other necessities of life for these deadbeats, why not sacrifice our standards of health care so that it will comport with something that suits them. It is the least we can do. The practice of medicine in the United States has been the envy of the civilized world for a century. Let’s f’it up for a bunch of freeloaders.
