Nikki Haley Addresses Donald Trump Sex Abuse Verdict

“It stands where it stands …”

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In the latest edition of our Palmetto Political Stock Index, former South Carolina governor (and 2024 presidential candidate) Nikki Haley got some grief for remaining silent in the face of questions about a civil judgment against former president Donald Trump. That judgment stemmed from a rape claim made against Trump by advice columnist E. Jean Carroll.

In 2019, Carroll accused Trump of raping her inside a dressing room at the luxury Bergdorf Goodman department store in downtown New York City in the mid-1990s. A jury found Trump civilly liable in the case (for battery and defamation, anyway), and ordered him to pay Carroll $5 million.

Questioned about the incident last week, Haley took a pass.

“I’m not going to get into that,” she told reporters.

This week? She’s getting into it …

The erstwhile #NeverTrumper appeared on CBSFace The Nation on Sunday morning. During her appearance on the program, host Margaret Brennan asked her a fairly benign question about the incident.

“I want to ask you, as a conservative woman, do you think it undermines your party if the Republican frontrunner is someone who was just found liable, legally liable, for sexually abusing a woman?” Brennan asked Haley.

“I have always said that anyone that feels like they have been sexually assaulted in any way should come forward and have their voice heard,” Haley responded. “I also think anyone that’s been accused should be able to defend themselves. I was not on the jury. I am not the judge. I think that both of them had their voices heard. There has been a verdict, and there’s been an appeal.”

“Are you drawing into question the legal findings?” Brennan asked Haley.

“No,” Haley replied. “I said there’s a verdict, and I think there’s been an appeal. I think it stands where it stands, and I think the American people need to make a decision based on that.”

Here is the exchange …

Haley is getting all sorts of grief from the far left in the aftermath of this interview – with some accusing her of “defending a rapist” or being a “coward” for not calling Trump out.

Really? Last time I checked, the jury in this case concluded Trump did not rape Carroll. And on the grounds upon which they did find in Carroll’s favor – battery and defamation – as Haley noted, Trump has filed an appeal.

What, exactly, is she supposed to say?

Now … would Haley’s answer have been different if she and Trump weren’t currently playing political footsie as part of an increasingly transparent under-the-table alliance? One in which Haley’s job is to splinter the anti-Trump GOP electorate and bait his main rival, Florida governor Ron DeSantis? Presumably in exchange for Trump putting her on his 2024 ticket?

Probably …

But that’s just Haley being Haley …

$5,000,000? Hey, does anyone want to hear about the time I was in the bathroom at the bus station and Trump touched my wiener? I have been scarred for life by that incident, I tell you. Every time I urinate since then, I start crying as it reminds me of that day.

How much should I get for that?

You should get your head checked.

Why do conservatives make fun of victims of SA so much? It’s really disturbing. I guess birds of a feather flock together?

She gets $5 million because rich people almost never go to jail. It’s possibly the best outcome you can hope for in the “just us” system because otherwise your “grab them by the pussy” idol doesn’t pay for what he did at all.

You got your wish.

A imaginary gay encounter with your mango man-crush.

Trumptards sure do like to bring up gay sex stuff out of nowhere.

Just Nikki trying to be all things to all people as usual. She’s going to need some extra soothing crotch lotion for all the fences she straddles.

The only reason the jury didn’t find Trump liable for rape is because Carroll couldn’t tell if he penetrated her with just his finger or his dick…pretty much jibes with Stormy’s description of the 3 inch wonder.

It wasn’t *rape* rape, right Will?

Between standing up for an admitted sex abuser, while dismissing the Supreme Court taking women’s rights over their bodies away will ensure Nikki, or any Republican, a defeat in 2024.

These Republicans are out of their minds in another reality.

I despise the orange toad. But the reactions to his actions exposes the hypocrisy of both sides. In the 90’s the Republicans were the party of “family values” and we were “a nation of laws” (I can still hear Newt and Rush talking about this) – and “no President should demand the office” by his sexual proclivities. The Democrats were: “it’s just sex between 2 adults”. “Let’s focus on the issues.” Now, the Democrats sound like the Republicans of the 90’s. My response to both is to quote my old friend Tony from Brooklyn: “da F__ outta heah! America’s got issues that we need to work on together to fix. Neither of the clowns that are the heads of their respective parties represent what is good about America. We need real leaders.

The “but, both sides” routine doesn’t work anymore.

Republicans have gone so far over the right-wing fascist ledge, mixed in with all their lies and criminality, there is no comparison in today’s Democratic Party.
