Nikki Haley Wants Disney In South Carolina

“We’re not sanctimonious …”

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has been enjoying some serious momentum in her home state of South Carolina, according to the findings of two recent polls. Now she’s looking to take the fight to her nearest GOP presidential rival, Florida governor Ron DeSantis – who is seeking to build some momentum of his own in this pivotal early voting primary state.

Did her broadside miss the mark, though?

As Disney sued DeSantis for allegedly “weaponizing government” and stifling the company’s right to free speech, Haley fired off a tweet welcoming the increasingly woke corporate giant to the Palmetto State.

“Hey Disney, my home state will happily accept your 70,000+ jobs if you want to leave Florida,” Haley tweeted. “We’ve got great weather, great people, and it’s always a great day in South Carolina! (Our state)’s not woke, but we’re not sanctimonious about it either.”

Not sanctimonious? That’s a reference to one of former U.S. president Donald Trump’s favorite nicknames for DeSantis: “DeSanctimonious.”

“I took a double digit unemployment state and I turned it into an economic powerhouse,” Haley said in a corresponding interview with Fox News. “Businesses were my partners, because if you take care of your businesses, you take care of your economy, your economy takes care of the people and everyone wins.”

Wait … South Carolina? An economic powerhouse? Last time I checked, the numbers do not bear that out …

Haley also offered up some curious ‘welcome mat’ language for Disney.

“South Carolina was a very anti-woke state, it still is, and if Disney would like to move their hundreds of thousands of jobs to South Carolina and bring the billions of dollars with them, I’ll let them know I’ll be happy to meet them in South Carolina and introduce them to the governor and the legislature that would welcome it,” Haley added.

Ironically, Haley previously criticized DeSantis so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill as not going “far enough” to combat the indoctrination of children.

“There was all this talk about the Florida bill – the ‘don’t say gay bill,’” Haley said in one of her first campaign stops in New Hampshire back in February. “Basically what it said was you shouldn’t be able to talk about gender before third grade. I’m sorry. I don’t think that goes far enough.”

According to Fox News, Haley’s comment drew “applause from the crowd packed into the historic town hall in Exeter.”

Will her pivot on Disney work with the decidedly non-woke GOP primary electorate? Early returns were not positive.

“No thanks,” one Palmetto State resident tweeted. “We don’t need woke Disney in the Carolinas.”

That stupid b-tch would want to bring that cancer here.

Don’t worry.

SC does not have enough educated people to figure out how to put a mouse costume on.

You’re safe, snowflake.

I miss the old style Republicans who would drop the sanctimonious theocratic fascism for financial gain. Nowadays they have to hard line the Jeebus stuff to take eyes away from unrestrained corruption on behalf of their donor constituency.

You have to give her credit that despite her bungling in this state, she didn’t cut open the golden goose like Meatball is.

I like today’s batshit insane Qpublicans.

They are exponentially speeding up the demise of the party.

Plus they are constantly owning themselves at epic levels.

Remember when this site was praising Elon Musk and Kanye?

Too funny.

Honestly, in the vacuum that the GOP’s demise will leave, Democrats will likely just pick right back up to prolonging Reaganomics like nothing ever happened. They’ve become that mediocre thanks to the abuse to the Overton window by conservatives.

The wishful thinking is that the Dems become the new conservative party and a more progressive party appears to the left of them, but the sheer amount of damage the GOP has done to education and discourse makes that extremely doubtful. We’ll probably get some Diet GOP knock off that will slowly slide right back into crazy land.

I know pessimism doesn’t help but neither does false hope. What can a lefty do? Status quo doesn’t work when you’re ten feet underwater.

In this supposedly heritage based state, y’all don’t know your history.
SC had a chance for all that Disney is.
Went with Darlington Raceway instead. That’s a big draw, but nowhere as
a) big as Disney and
b) big as it used to be.

We don’t need any more pedophiles in this state, we have too many already. This dolt needs to quit inviting the unwanted.

Bob April 27, 2023 at 11:35 am

So, you’re saying your State is all ready too full of pedophiles?

That you don’t want anymore competition.

She lost my vote saying this. I don’t want indoctrinators and those fools in this state.

Oh no, shorter lines and smaller crowds at Disney, you really owned those libs!

Republicans have no idea the anti-woke silliness comes off as ridiculous to normal voters.

Just goes to show how Republicans have NOTHING positive to run on. Not a single policy that will help average voters.

Just screaming at the sky like lunatics.

Disney World isn’t moving, but if it was South Carolina is probably the last place it would go. For one thing the lack of investment in the roads, something we should remind the former two term governor about.

Or maybe the judicial system that has no organized structure,

Or maybe the education system which persistently stays in the bottom ten percent of the nation,

Oh one could go on, but while she mandated state agencies answer the phone saying it is a great day in South Carolina she did nothing to make it a place the ‘most magical place on earth’ would want to relocate to.
