A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in West Palm Beach, Florida was arrested in Easley, South Carolina on Sunday morning, according to a release from the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS).

Erick Lopez, a 24-year-old hispanic male, had been sought as a suspect in the July 4 shooting of 65-year-old Arturo Arriga at the Casa Del Monte mobile home park located at 17th Drive South in West Palm Beach.

Deputies of the Palm Beach County sheriff’s office say Lopez and Arriga “got into an altercation” on that date – which in addition to being Independence Day also happened to be Arriga’s birthday.

The altercation “resulted in Lopez fatally shooting Arriga.”

Marshals were joined by Palm Beach deputies as well as deputies with the Pickens County, S.C. sheriff’s office, the Easley, S.C. police department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in arresting Lopez.

Lopez was booked in the Pickens County detention center on charges of first degree murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. After he is transferred, his case will be handled by prosecutors in Florida.

As with anyone accused of committing any crime, Lopez is considered innocent until proven guilty by our criminal justice system or until such time as he may wish to enter a plea in connection with the charges filed against him.
