ALLEN MITCHELL LAWSUIT GOES TO COURT …

|| By FITSNEWS ||  A jury in Lexington County, S.C. is scheduled to hear a civil case this week related to the death of former University of South Carolina quarterback Allen Mitchell.

Mitchell committed suicide in September 2012 – leaving behind his wife and two children.  He was forty-eight years old.

A member of the 1984 “Black Magic” squad – the first football team in school history to win ten games – Mitchell threw for 2,221 yards and fourteen touchdowns during his three years with the Gamecocks.  The former Batesburg-Leesville High School standout also ran for 369 yards and six scores.

Mitchell’s wife, Meredith Mitchell, is suing Three Rivers Center for Behavioral Health, Dr. Jan Presberg and Vista Psychiatric Consultants, LLC – alleging medical malpractice.

Mitchell suffered several concussions during his career and was reportedly battling severe depression at the time of his death.

What a sad story. We all assume risks in life and if we are smart ,understand the consequences.Football players are no different.

Hopefully parents of children allowing their children to play tackle/contact football at early ages will take heed.

May God Bless his family.

I’ve read (and heard/saw on TV) recently more than one poll shows a majority of parents now would prefer that their children not participate in football.
Just saying…………………………

I’m been posting for quite some time that football (as it is played now) is the modern version of bread & circus and the college/professional players are the gladiators.
Concussions and other life crippling injuries are commonplace and for good reason, The “players” are bigger, stronger and physics can be a bitch.
Sadly, this is just another example of “I told you so” and tragically this will continue to happen.

Al the while FITS and other columnists can’t wait for news of who will coach, play or otherwise contribute to the religion that football has become.
Keep that shit in mind this football season and feel good about yourselves while you are tailgating or sitting in front of that 60 inch 1080+++ pixel HD TV.

football is destroying the country. destroying our university system, perverting our high schools and maiming our kids. i love watching pro ball as much as anyone. but i like strippers too, which i admit it isn’t healthy and i wouldn’t want my daughter doing it. just drop it like the cocaine habit that it is.

Like in hockey, once face shields and cages came into play sticks came up to head level more often. Want to reduce head injuries in football, make them play without helmets. You won’t see two guys go skull to skull like they do now.
