AND TWELVE OTHERS JUST LIKE IT …
Earlier this week we wrote on “Pennies for Progress,” a sales tax/ property tax hike being pushed by “leaders” in Lexington County, S.C.
Of course there’s another Lexington politician who deserves our “thanks” in the event this $400 million tax hike becomes law: S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley.
Haley had a chance to veto legislation authorizing this tax hike referendum. In fact we encouraged her to do so – and praised S.C. Sen. Kevin Bryant (R-Anderson) for his efforts to block the bill.
Sadly, Bryant’s filibuster was unsuccessful … and Haley signed the bill.
That means Lexington County – along with Aiken, Anderson, Beaufort, Cherokee, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Georgetown, Jasper, Kershaw and Marlboro Counties – could see massive tax hikes this fall.
We’ve already addressed specific problems with the Lexington proposal, but for those of you who generally believe more government is the solution to what ails South Carolina (i.e. this) … think again.
But hey … Haley is a “conservative Republican.” Just ask her …

What? You mean Nikki Haley “didn’t have the taxpayers’ back”?
Sadly, I don’t believe she ever did. This is why she must go down in November. Regardless of who wins, SC cannot stand another four years of her.
She has the shirt off of the taxpayers’ back at least.
And the pants of others!
Haley did NOT have the back of those children who were killed, by her DSS incompetence either. She totally turned her back on them. The only back Haley truly has is herself and her family!
There are no conservatives in Lexingont County – only those living off the big melons of a bloated state government bureaucracy based in Columbia, commuting back to Mayberry.
You forgot about Greenville as well. They are trying to raise the sales tax by .01 as well this fall for “roads” even though a chunk of money is going to the swamp rabbit trail.
OMG…how much weight has she gained? No longer just a shell of a person but a BIG shell of a person..
Donnie thinks she’s a buffoon.
One of the big proponents of the extra “penny” sales tax in LexCo is Councilwoman Debbie Summers. As I understand it, she is a high-level functionary at Harvest Hope Food Bank. I guess Debbie sees it as a win/win situation if she can force more of her constituents to seek help from Harvest Hope by continually raising taxes in LexCo.
I’m one Lexington voter that will be voting no to the proposed county tax hike.
Get to the gym and step away from the freaking fork.
