Statement from Clemson University Head Football Coach Dabo Swinney:

Over the past week or two, there has been a lot of discussion of my faith.  We have three rules in our program that everybody must follow: (1) players must go to class, (2) they must give a good effort and (3) they must be good citizens. It is as simple as that.

I have recruited and coached players of many different faiths. Players of any faith or no faith at all are welcome in our program. All we require in the recruitment of any player is that he must be a great player at his position, meet the academic requirements, and have good character.

Recruiting is very personal. Recruits and their families want – and deserve – to know who you are as a person, not just what kind of coach you are. I try to be a good example to others, and I work hard to live my life according to my faith. I am proud of the great success we have had in developing good players and good men at Clemson. We win at the highest level and we graduate players who excel on the field and in life because of their time in Death Valley. I want to thank Clemson University and all the people who have reached out to offer their support and encouragement over the past few weeks.

Clemson has had more top 25 wins in the last 3 years than any other program in the same time span…. More than FSU, UGA, Texas, OSU and yes even SCAR.

Cool story bro. Your taters haven’t beaten the Gamecocks since the Bush administration.

Cush April 23, 2014 at 3:36 pm

Bush left office in 2009. Coincidentally, that was the last time the phrase “cool story bro” was funny.

The comparison to Bush should revolve around his use of the phrase “fuzzy math” and your stats above.

Hey Cush, what the fuck are you smoking? The taters beat only 1 team to finish in the top 25 last year, USC beat 5 from the top 25 with 3 in the top 10 alone . 2 years ago it was 4 for USC to 2 for the Taters and 3 years ago it was 2 -1 edge USC That means USC has 11 wins in the last 3 years over top 25 teams and Clemsux only 4, You sir are full of shit, and cant add either.

Tater logic I guess April 23, 2014 at 5:15 pm

I guess its like all that BS they teach up there like they “play in the SEC south” since 3 weeks in a row the played USC, LSU and UGA. No you didn’t, it was in 2 different years. Another distorted fact from Dabo and the Tater nation. If you cant really do it, make it up.

Angry much. I bet your dick is dry as the desert.

I guess that’s why you can’t get a girl then huh?

OhMy! April 23, 2014 at 11:19 pm

I hope you realized I was attempting sarcasm. Cush might want to count up CU wins against USC and FSU over the last three years. Or five.

Manray April 23, 2014 at 12:09 pm

Hmmm…so being a protestant Christian makes you a “good citizen?” Dabo’s “Developing good men” is dependent on his faith? It all seems rather medieval to me.

“so being a Protestant Christian makes you a good citizen?”… um, yeah, basically… and certainly better than non-believers who grow up to be purposeless, unethical, worm rot… seriously, when was the last time you heard about a devout Christian shooting up a school? I’ll wait for your answer.

Born again Christian GW Bush invaded a sovereign country based on what he knew was faulty intelligence about WMDs(Read the Lie Factory by award winning journalist Robert Dreyfuss and The Stovepipe by investigative journalist Seymour Hersh). His actions resulted in the unnecessary deaths of over 5000 US soldiers with another 35,000 maimed for life. The US military said it didn’t keep up with the number of Iraqis killed but estimates place it at over 100,000 with millions displaced because of sectarian violence.

Forget the deranged students who shoot up a school, the Christian GW Bush is in the Hilter/ Stalin category.

“and certainly better than non-believers who grow up to be purposeless, unethical, worm rot”…like the brilliant Einstein or the biologist who cracked the human genome? I know they don’t hold a candle to Pat Robertson who last week predicted Jesus is sending an asteroid to kill everyone, but we get along.

I would venture that most kids would say that if their coach looked like a wasp duck, walked like a wasp duck, quacked like a wasp duck and prayed like a wasp duck then they would feel compelled to do the same if they wanted to be a duck

Dabo and the rest of his wasp duck clan need to leave their religion at the entrance to Death Valley

“What would I do, for all eternity, if I didn’t have dumb dick college football coaches prayers to listen to all day? Especially from shitty, mediocre schools in the middle of bumfuck. Every good Christian knows I only created the Earth, and everything on it, to facilitate college football. And I created college football to help GrandTango keep his mind off the incredibly tiny and impotent penis I blessed him with. You don’t think I’d allow that turd to procreate, for I so loved the world!”- The Holy Ghost, God Almighty

Intolerant, militant, atheist zealots should practice their lawfare elsewhere…why not sue those charter schools in Dearborn where menstruating school girls are forced to sit in the back of the class?

As a Carolina fan, and non-Christian, I have no doubt that Dabo Swinney is a dedicated Christian. And he walks his faith, not just talks it. I don’t believe he consciously pressures his players or staff. But Clemson does need to get him to understand that having baptisms at practice does cross a line. And I have no doubt that the group targeting Clemson was alerted by someone associated with Clemson.

Has anyone ever heard a suspicion that born-again fundamentalists have an inside track to employment at Clemson, including faculty positions? I have over the years sure met more than the normal proportion of such among faculty there. A degree of public activism was also seen among them, for Christian homeschooling and religion in politics for example. Maybe it was just happenstance, but it has long piqued my curiosity.

I would hate to think that God and/or Jesus give a rip about any American sport and who wins.
If there is anything about American high school, college and professional sports that would give God and/or Jesus pause, it has to be the incredible moral corruption that defines sports. But, I sure don’t think they care who wins.
