“TAKING CUSTODY …”
Taking a populist page out of the playbook of U.S. president Donald Trump, South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Catherine Templeton has “taken custody” of her Twitter account and will be updating it personally during the upcoming gubernatorial campaign.
Who originally had “custody” of Templeton’s account? Good question … but the labor attorney and former director of the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) has made it clear she will be managing those duties herself moving forward.
“It will be sloppy, but it will be authentic,” Templeton declared in a message to her supporters late Monday evening.
Templeton and former Democratic lieutenant governor Yancey McGill are the only two announced “Republican” candidates in next spring’s race against incumbent GOP governor Henry McMaster.

Other candidates could soon jump into the fray, though.
Templeton has been absolutely tonning it on the fundraising trail – while McMaster has seen his early momentum stall given his proximity to an ongoing corruption scandal at the S.C. State House.
That’s prompted a host of potential candidates to begin testing the waters. Among them? Lieutenant governor Kevin Bryant and State Senators Tom Davis and Katrina Shealy.
Bottom line? A race that appeared to be locked up for McMaster just a few short months ago is now wide open.
