Washington, DC — South Carolina Congressman Jeff Duncan issued the following statement following the passage of the American Health Care Act:

The dismantling of Obamacare took a major step forward today with the passage of the American Health Care Act (AHCA). This is a rising sun moment for the country as we made progress in rolling back President Obama’s health care law that increased costs, created fewer choices, and was filled with broken promises.

I voted yes on the American Health Care Act (AHCA) today to repeal key provisions of Obamacare and lower the cost of health care. Although I would have liked to have accomplished more in this bill, I recognize the limitations of the reconciliation process and the importance of making progress in undoing the damage done by Obamacare. Now, the Senate has the opportunity to do its work and hopefully make the bill better. Additionally, we have already started to advance other pieces of legislation to allow association health plans and expand free-market reforms that will increase competition and lower costs.

I know the AHCA is a step in the right direction. The American people were loud and clear in November – it is imperative that we deliver on our promise to get the government out of health care and relieve the massive burden Obamacare has been on individuals, families, and businesses.
