BUT “REPUBLICANS” WILL LOVE HIS COMMENTS …
|| By FITSNEWS || Most GOP primary voters have no clue what “Islamophobia” is … even though most of them practice it.
Oh well, they’re going to love what was said this week by Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon whose 2016 presidential candidacy has gained considerable traction in recent weeks (despite what we believe to be a void of substance).
Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Carson told host Chuck Todd he did not believe a Muslim should be elected president.
“I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that,” Carson said.
Of interest, a majority of “Republican” primary voters – 54 percent according to the latest Public Policy Polling data – believe there already is a Muslim in the White House.
We respectfully disagree with those “Republicans.” And we respectfully disagree with Carson. And while we’re not going to get all weepy and politically correct about it (we’re all done with that), the fact remains these views are inaccurate and inconsistent with the sort of individual liberty we’d expect Carson to advance.
(And yes, we said that because Carson is black).
There is no Christian, Hindu, Jewish or Muslim way to expand freedom and free markets – just as there is no black or white, gay or straight, or male or female way to limit those things.
Reducing the adverse impact of government on our liberties and our prosperity is a cause that knows no color, creed, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. It is by definition an effort that is available to all people – and which seeks to make life better for all people. And yes … part of that effort must involve stemming the tide of illegal immigration, and the government policies which incentivize it.
Carson’s remark isn’t going to hurt him politically. In fact it will help him politically – which is why he said it.
But that doesn’t make it right …
