FORMER TEXAS GOVERNOR RIPPED FOR “COWBOY-STYLE” FOREIGN POLICY
|| By FITSNEWS || South Carolina Democrats had less than flattering comments about former Texas governor Rick Perry on the occasion of his latest visit to the Palmetto State.
Perry – who is flirting with a long shot 2016 presidential bid – spoke to The Citadel Republican Society this week. As expected, his address was a blistering indictment of the foreign policy of U.S. president Barack Obama.
“For much of the last 75 years, there has been bipartisan consensus that America must project its values and its power, engage its allies and competitors, and confront its adversaries,” he said. “That consensus no longer holds with the Obama Administration.”
Perry also equated America’s undeclared war against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) with the Cold War.
“We are in the early years of a twilight struggle with violent Islamic extremists that will last many decades,” he said. “We must display the same resolve in its defeat that we did Soviet Communism.”
In other words he’s on the Rick Santorum tip … minus the Jesus.
Democrats ripped Perry’s “cowboy-style” foreign policy.
“Rick Perry had a lot to say about the dangers of the world, but what he overlooked is how his cowboy-style of foreign policy would take us back to the failures of the past and into an even more dangerous future,” said Jason Perkey, executive director of the S.C. Democratic Party (SCDP). “Rick Perry’s foreign policy tells us all we need to know about what kind of leader he would be: dangerous for our nation, and wrong for the families in South Carolina.”
