LIBERAL REPORTER “HONORED”
|| By FITSNEWS || This website has repeatedly bashed the Palmetto State’s left-leaning mainstream media … and with good reason. Their “coverage” is nothing but mindless parroting of establishment talking points … invariably intended to separate you from your hard-earned money (or your liberties).
“Their ‘reporters’ are reality TV actor wanna-be script readers,” one of our law enforcement sources told us recently. “Not a journalist in the bunch. All selling ‘viewer driven content’ for advertisers. I’ve lost all regard for them.”

Of course The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper is arguably the worst of the whole lot, pushing hard left views on a host of economic, educational and environmental issues – in its editorials as well as its “news coverage.”
Which brings us to today’s case study in legacy media “objectivity …”
Two months ago, reporter Sammy Fretwell of The State ran a hit piece against former S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) director Catherine Templeton.
What did Templeton do? Well, she received an award from the S.C. Manufacturers’ Alliance – a group whose members, according to Fretwell, “need pollution permits to operate manufacturing plants.”
The salient passage from Fretwell’s hatchet job? A quote from Susan Corbett – head of the South Carolina chapter of the uber-liberal Sierra Club.
“It does seem a bit odd,” Corbett told Fretwell of Templeton’s award. “It’s almost like they are applauding her for not being too hard on them.”
Hmmm … okay.
Now, let’s fast-forward to this past Saturday – which is when the Sierra Club hosted its annual awards dinner in Columbia, S.C. Guess who got an award?
Yeah … Sammy Fretwell. And guess who presented it to him? None other than Susan Corbett.

Look, this website has never bought into the whole “awards” scene (well, unless a leg lamp is involved). Truth be told, the only award we care about is when random taxpayers send our founding editor Will Folks emails like this …
The plaques, trophies, framed certificates and other assorted “honors” that fill so many other people’s offices? Yeah … they can keep ’em.
Still, for Corbett to present – and Fretwell to accept – an award like this so soon after they teamed up to attack someone else for the very same thing is stunningly hypocritical. Oh, and it’s further evidence of the extent to which Fretwell – who purports to be an objective journalist – is totally in the tank for the liberal environmental lobby.
Seriously … a real reporter would have never let their coverage drift so far to one end of the ideological spectrum so as to warrant consideration for an “honor” like this, let alone accepted the damn thing.
But such is the sad state of affairs that’s befallen South Carolina’s “impartial” legacy media …

the article that he should have written was about the (illegal by city, county, state, and federal law) sandbag seawall being constructed on Isle of Palms to protect a high rise condo in Wild Dunes. instead he writes about a natural phenomenon on a nature preserve.

One thing that doesn’t change is his faux-libertarian position that frames this state not as the Palmetto State but the Persecuted State, one where there is always some bogeyman trying to take something away; culture, tradition, way of life, money, freedom, rights, honor, religion, you name it. Rinse and repeat. Keep sense of threat and insecurity fresh and on the front burner with constant, repeated “threat alerts” and updates on the next threat/bogeyman–cause he’s right around the corner, behind any tree you might see, anywhere. You just need the “source/leader” to tell to where and when so you can prepare and defend. Wait, that sounds like Faux News too! And a lot of churches/pastors too

there hasn’t been any rise in the sea level. The damage to the trees on Bull’s is part of a natural process of building and eroding barrier islands – it’s been going on since the sandhills were the beach.

All this is basically wrong. While the ‘natural process’ is correct, it is rising sea level that forces the eroding part of that process. And the vastly older sandhills were not beaches by best accounts.
Fascinating, cause all that work I did in college and for the Army Corps of Engineers must have been wasted. Why don’t we look at a few facts rather than trading posts?

1) Plenty of people question how libertarian Willie actually is.
2) Many Libertarians still believe in public courts and law enforcement.
3) In the absence of public law enforcement, private law enforcement would very likely exist in some form. (I’d have reservations about this type of system for various reasons, but it would still exist.)
4) Injustice will exist in any system, from wrongful convictions to pebbles in shoes.
Willie’s probably made bad decisions in his past, but I don’t see that in him now. Give him a break.

Check my disqus history. We have recovered about 25% from the recession bottom. The speed of the recovery is picking up.
I usually compare Haley/SC against data when she took office and compare that % change with other state and the country.

I rarely come here because (a) the radical, simplistic, libertarian perspective wears thin really fast and (b) the idiotic commenters personally attacking each other is worse than listening to my toddlers fighting.
