GOVERNOR SUPPORTS CANDIDATE IN LEXINGTON COUNTY CONTEST

|| By FITSNEWS ||  S.C. governor Nikki Haley‘s national clout may be evaporating, but she’s hoping she’s still got some pull in her adopted home county.

According to reporter Tim Flach of The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper, Haley and her husband – Michael Haley – have endorsed the candidacy of Jay Koon for sheriff of Lexington County, S.C.

A Haley spokeswoman told the paper Koon “is the right person with the right experience to continue to move Lexington County in the right direction and make the sheriff’s department once again a source of pride.”

Koon has also received support from S.C. Senator Katrina Shealy – a former Haley ally who has sparred with the governor of late on tax policy and child welfare issues.  He and three other candidates (Richland County deputy Justin Britt, veteran criminal justice instructor Ed Felix and West Columbia, S.C. police chief Dennis Tyndall) are all vying to fill the office vacated in December 2014 by James Metts – who spent forty-two years as sheriff before his career was undone by corruption.

The winner will have to run for reelection in two years …

Our view on this race?  Eh … we should probably care a lot more about it seeing as our founding editor (like the Haleys) resides in Lexington County, but we don’t have a dog in the fight.  We’ve heard good things about Britt, Felix and Koon, though … so make of that what you will.

If Felix is truly an outsider, he seems like the only sane choice by default.

But knowing how “clanish” Lexington is, he has a snowball’s chance in hell.

I agree, and sadly you ate right about Felix’s chances. Still, he will get my vote.

Koon is too connected with Danny Frazier and others in the Lexington Crime Ring.

Britt is an offering from the Lott Crime Family and Leon’s hope of controlling what goes on in all counties surrounding his. The LexCo Coroner is already another of Leon’s former deputies, as is the Sheriff of Fairfield County who was just elected by the sheeple there. Leon’s good buddy, Jim Matthews was just re-elected as Sheriff in Kershaw County by the blind sheeple, there. I don’t know when or how the LCF will make an overture towards Sumter County. Maybe he’s waiting for Santiago to come back from Eurasia so he can run him for Sheriff, there.

This race for Sheriff is for the people. We have seen the changes that are good for Lexington County so lets go to the polls and help continue the momentum that started two years We all can see the two front runners are Britt and Koon. The bad thing about this is Koon is a cookie cutter replica of DANNY FRAZIER. He has been known around Lexington as Danny’s go to guy on tickets. We are rid of Metts, Halfacre, Knotts, and Danny Frazier. Why should we vote for anyone associated in the Lexington Ring Circle. The only vote I see is for BRITT. anything short of that would be starting all over with the same crap..

Can you not see the forest for the trees?

Why are so many so blind? Can you not see the ties Britt has to Leon Lott and to Joe Wilson? Is it really THAT difficult to see the little Kindoms that Lott is setting up around his own of dubious integrity? Is it so hard to see that Joe Wilson, who has ties to the Lexington Crime Ring is part of Britt’s campaign? Is itcreally so hard to understand that “birds of a feather flock together”?

Ed Felix is the ONLY current LexCo Sheriff candidate with no obvious ties to the Lexington Crime Ring or other corruption.

Google Leon Lott and check his credentials, awards, and accomplishments. I nearly always vote Republican, but it seems to me the main thing people here have against him is that he is
simply a Democrat. When are we ever going to get past party labels and elect the best man for the job. I think having spent nine
years under Lott has been very good training for Britt. I also think that Koon is a “Lexington Ring” clone and has been handpicked for the job and we as “sheep” are to just follow along. I was at the forum last night in Chapin and was pleasantly surprised at Felix. Boy, what a stretch, Batman, to link Britt with the these others who have served.

openyourfuckingeyes February 10, 2015 at 3:05 pm

Britt IS starting over again with the same crap. He’s the Lexington Crime Ring’s “Plan B”.

Hello everyone;

I enjoy the open discourse here. A Wiseman once said, “Don’t believe
everything they say about, it will either falsely inflate your ego or falsely deflate
it.” LOL

I thought I would share some thoughts. I can read between the lines and
see that a lot is not known about me, which is good in the current climate or
bad because some with “special interest” will want to spin things their way.

My writing here is not to discredit anyone let alone my opponents.

A little about me:

I served 26 years in law enforcement. My experience is varied and
broad. I am not chained by the way things are done. I consider that a plus
because I can select from ideas that could be adopted for our community. Yes, I have worked many areas in law enforcement. Patrol, homicides, rapes, child
abductions, fugitive apprehension and extraditions, shut down drug enterprises, organized crime, and police academy instruction (14+ years). I was in the SWAT team for 8 years and conducted one no-kidding hostage rescue where the husband shot his wife in the head with a 45 in our presence. She lived… yes she did. I believe in God. On my days off in the summer, I conducted maritime patrol and in the evenings, I was observer with the helicopter unit. I retired May 2014, from the Academy.

I gave up a promotion in Charleston County to support my wife’s career
and moved to Lexington in 1998. In 1999, I had two job offers, SLED and the
Academy. I chose the academy because with weekends off it would have less
impact on my reserve duties and allow me to go to school at night for my double masters, Management/Leadership and HR Management.

I also spent 33 years in the military. I retired February 2014. It began
January 1981 with the navy. In 1983, we were in Beirut, Lebanon. Saw a friend
die and another almost die. I saw the devastation a terrorist truck bomb can do
when our marines on the beach were attacked, 239 perished. In 1986, I went into the air force reserves.

I had many activations post 9/11. In 2008, I was trusted with the
welfare, preparedness and readiness of not just my 250+ members but the 350+ embers of our associate active duty unit. In 2009, I deployed to Baghdad. My duty was supposed to be the management of 120+ logistics unit. Within a month, it grew to include all 1,200 members including US Army, Marines, Navy, Canadian and British forces in my camp. A month later, I was nominated and vetted to be a member of the Detainee and Suspected Terrorist Review Board. Because of my background and leadership, experience I was one of a few allowed to interview detainees and terrorist to determine their progress towards an eventual release.
I interviewed many, no one got out while I was there. I had more activations after that.

For nine years, I was also a member of the Air Force Reserves
Professional Development Center Leadership Cadre. We developed leadership and managerial courses based on Harvard School of Leadership models. For nine years, I traveled on the weekends all over the US teaching future leaders in the AF Reserves. Yep, I was not a one weekend a month reservist; I performed two weekends a month in Charleston and two weekends traveling.

I worked my way up the ranks and retired as an E-9 first sergeant. Of the
12 slots for E-9 first sergeants the AF had, I was number 13. Why? After many
activations and leadership at HQ and Pentagon details were personnel policies
were developed my superiors thought it be appropriate to submit my name as a candidate to have my position upgraded one more level. In 2009, the Air Force was going to upgrade three positions. My name along with 260 others went up and made the final cut after three boards.

From this, I hope you can discern three things:

1. I’m not lazy

2. What I have has been earned

3. I was serving my country while others were doing other things. Yep, there are not ties between me and the obvious issues mentioned in this conversation. I am neither famous nor infamous

As to the question and allegations of the Academy and me. I have one
thing to say. USERRA-Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. Click or copy here (government employers are the worse violators) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk13EhQEURE

It was very ironic that I was the go to person in my unit when members
felt discriminated against because of their service to their country by their
employers. While I was in Bagdad hitting the dirt from incoming unguided
rockets some back home were laying landmines for me at work. This was not
dreamed up paranoia on my part. On my return, I was told directly by a
supervisor high up that I was passed over for promotion only because of my
military service. He/she added that I should be very careful because there was
a price on my head. No matter what I did, people around me were trying to collect. As I became aware of the situation, the “black ops” started against me. The damage control was very clear—discredit him so we don’t have to admit a wrong. I was only trying to protect my rights and my family’s livelihood. If you think, American service men and women should go to war in a foreign country while co-workers hold bayonets on their backs at home please vote for somebody else. Enough said.

Endorsements:

There is an unwritten rule among political parties, “you don’t endorse
anyone when they are all from the same party in a primary, only in a general election against the opposite party”. How do I know that? I am not naïve. US Senator Tim Scott worked with my wife in retail when he was just dreaming about one day running for office. They remain in touch. I supported him as a Charleston County Councilman, US Representative and Senator. Representative Mark Sanford was in my reserve unit. I never asked him for a favor and never let him know that I worked for the State when he was governor; I kept it very professional. I much rather have the endorsement of my family and neighbors. The ultimate endorsement is the vote. Under my leadership, you will not see a deputy carrying golf bags for a congressional representative or a governor’s husband. I am beholding to no one except my community.
That is the way I have always been and nothing will ever change,
win-lose-or draw.

I have been endorsed by the Founder of the Law Enforcement Advocacy
Foundation (they buy vests for k-9), the Director of the National Criminal
Enforcement Officers Association (highway drug interdiction training), and the
President of the “Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association”
(CSPOA.org) (beholding to the promises of the Bill Of Rights)… Three pro community and law enforcement organizations… NOT politicians. That my friends, is why I lay my head in peace every night. God Bless

PS. If you hear me say “I, I, I” in a forum is only because I have the
t-shirts to prove it. That was a good one. LOL
PSS. my email is edfelix803@gmail.com. number 803-530-9232. Don’t be a stranger…

The fact that Haley is supporting Koon is the very reason I will not be. My vote is going to justin Britt. Not because he works for Lott, but because he is in noway connected to the lexington ring and he is truly the best choice for lexington county that does not have a hidden agenda as Koon and Tyndall do. Koon is just another member of the ring that escaped getting caught with the rest of the ring. Danny Frazier promoted Koon at lexington for one reason only and that was his go to guy for getting criminal charges drop for Danny’s friends and anyone that would give him money.

If Koon is elected, he will be just be another metts. Also, knowing that the interim sheriff, Lewis Mcarty, was metts’ assistant sheriff for over 30 years and did nothing to report metts’ criminal and unethical behavior speaks volumes to the character of seeing him support Koon. And again this is a guy Haley put there to run the department after metts was charged. Haley has a huge issue with Ethics too. So it is very true when you hear the saying birds of a feather flock together. Or in this one unethical people support other unethical people.

Britt doesn’t have a hidden agenda? Really? Doing Massa Lott’s bidding isn’t a hidden agenda? Or how about Massa Joe’s (Wilson) bidding. In case you don’t remember, Joe Wilson is up to his ears in connections with the Lexington Crime Ring, especially Jake Knotts.

While his “platform” comes across as canned and insincere, Ed Felix seems to be the ONLY candidate not tied to organized crime and like scum.

Show me where justin Britt has been the target of a corruption investigation. Show me where justin Britt is directly connected to jake knotts, Danny Frazier and the ring. Show me where justin Britt has been promoted by any member of the lexington ring like Koon has. That’s right you can’t. All you have is Britt is being supported by joe wilson’s family.

Koon has Danny Frazier out putting his signs up. Koon has ethically challenged Haley supporting him. Koon has direct members of the ring supporting him. Koon has an assistant sheriff of metts supporting him. Jakie knotts is supporting Koon. Please don’t be that voter who drinks the corrupt and unethical’s koolaid that Haley, Katrina Shealy, interim sheriff, Lewis Mcarty, Danny Frazier, Jakie knotts, and still supportive of metts’ is trying to serve you. The only agenda justin Britt has is to serve honestly with intergity and transparently. To completely clear out the old but current corrupt individuals that still plague lexington county sheriff’s department and lexington county as a whole.

He’s running with Leon’s blessing, otherwise he wouldn’t be running. He has worked for Uncle Joe in the past and has his blessing. Are you really so dense as to believe there are not or will not be favors expected and returned if little Justin is elected?
I agree with what you said about Koon, 100%. Just open your eyes enough to see that Lott, who gifted CPD with the clusterfuck police chiefs Scott and Santiago, wants to control LexCo as badly as he does CPD.

You are completely full of it. You are either a conspiracy theorist, or you are one of the few people who has been given their walking papers for inappropriate actions and therefore have an axe to grind. I won’t argue that Frazier is filth. But to lie just to tie Koon to him and to bold face lie to claim that Frazier is putting up campaign signs for Koon? You’re pathetic. Your lies are the reasons that other people think he is connected to the Ring. Since that was your objective with your little smear campaign, your mission is accomplished.

Orion February 10, 2015 at 12:56 pm

You miss represent McCarty! He is the only reason the Sheriff’s Dept was EVER a honest and legitimate organization under Metts!
I’m afraid Britt is too connected to the Ring, being a Joe Wilson confidant and protege and Wilson is much too close to Knotts, Frazier, the Peelers, James and thereby the Rings inner sanctum.

Bob Peeler was Frazier and Halfacre’s go to guy. I’ll guarantee he has knowledge of all the shady dealings and questionable activities.
They catered to him due to his brother with Sen. Harvey Peeler and direct link to Cousin Jean Toal!
Joe Wilson’s boy Britt has probably been co-opted by Peeler and the other Ring members and associates: Frazier, Metts, James and Amodio. Birds of a feather.
Tyndall was also Frazier’s butt boy, mentioned prominately in Frazier’s infamous tapes.
Be afraid, very afraid!
McCarty is above reproach or corruption. A shame he would not run due to his age.

Rob February 10, 2015 at 8:46 pm

Yes some will sell their souls for a football ticket. Bob Peeler has no soul or morals. He has proven it time and again. He, Donna and the Fraziers are turds in the same sewer.

I’m not voting for Britt, simply because I’d like my Sheriff to have at least minimal experience and not “willing to hire the best if elected”.

Reply

You are very out of touch. Justin Britt has what is required by state statue to be elected sheriff for lexington county or any other county in the state of South Carolina.

Metts and Lewis mcarty got advanced education and attending USC on tax payers dollar. Metts received his doctoral degree while he was supposed to be sheriff and all paid for by lexington county tax payers.

The point being made is nobody has experience being a sheriff unless you are elected to that position. I will gladly give my vote to justin Britt who you say does not have the minimal experience with the foresight to hire the best people to serve our county than anyone who has corrupt experience hand picked and being supported by corrupt officials like Haley, mcarty, Danny Frazier, Jakie knotts and the rest of the ethically challenged that are supporting Koon who wants people to believe he lives a Christian life but associates himself with the most evil people and makes deals with them.

Yep, Justin Britt gets my vote each and every time versa Koon and Tyndall.

Metts and Tim James let the Dept. go to the Devil with their connections to Tyndall, the Peelers, Frazier, Owens, Beddinger, Halfacre and the rest of Lexington’s trash!

Metts has always been unethical and corrupt. Why did Mcarty not do something about that over the 30 years he served under metts. It appears he was covering up for the corruption than enforcing the laws. That is the issue I have with Mcarty and the fact that he is supporting an unethical persons like Koon who continues to associate and uses the lexington ring to work to get him elected. To me, Mcarty is no different than Koon. He knows wrong is going on but chooses to do nothing about it because as long as he is getting benefit from the corrupt and unethical people and stands and professes that he is one of the good guys who maintains his intergity, they can convince themselves that they can sleep good at night.

We need real ethical change in the lexington county sheriff’s department not false illusions. Justin Britt is the only one that can do that and not be compromised by those corrupt people that are supporting Koon and Tyndall.

Reply
Fred February 26, 2015 at 11:16 am

What a shame. You are so misinformed. Frazier didn’t promote Koon. Chief Green did. Koon never even liked Frazier. Nobody in the police department at all was part of the investigation involving Frazier. There was no “ticket dropping” by Koon on behalf of Frazier. Frazier just talked like that because he liked trying to make himself seem like he had more clout than he did. It’s easy to make Jay seem like part of the Lexington Ring just because he works for the town where Frazier was a councilman, even though he couldn’t stand him. and Jay is a lifetime resident of the area, which lends to the argument that he is one of the good old boys. So with a little gossip and twisting of fact, a man who has always wanted to honorably serve the community he grew up in suddenly becomes all that is at the core of Lexington County corruption.
Go ahead and elect Britt if you want. You’ll discover pretty quick that he may or may not be a nice guy (I honestly don’t know), but he just doesn’t have the experience to do the job well. He will fail epically and be voted out in two years and we will be right back to the drawing board.
As for Felix and Tyndal, they are both more experienced that Britt, but they are also self-important scumbags who think they are better than everyone else. They are incapable of holding the trust of the people who work under them.
I understand that your mind is almost certainly already made up and nothing I could say would convince you that your whole “Koon is part of the Lexington Ring” belief is totally wrong (because after all, we’ve been ingrained with true examples of how things like this tend to be the case, so how can this not also be true), but I’ve arrested and cited quite a few friends of important people–and the important people themselves–in my time, and never once has he come to me or anyone I know to try to make things go away– even once when it was a friend of his. If Britt is elected, he may be honest (just like I know Koon is, but you probably won’t believe that), but in two years he will be voted out of office and leave the sheriff’s department in shambles because he doesn’t have the experience to run it, much less make it better.

Questions that need answering; if you know them, please share and I do not know the answers myself!
Did Britt spend 3 our of his 9 years of service driving the transport van? Was he given the opportunity to “resign” from SLED after an inappropriate tazing incident? Why does he want to transfer the jail to a third party entity to run? Has he ever had a leadership role in law enforcement? Who will be named as part of his transition team? Who will be his Deputy Chief?
Koon: why has he been passed over for Chief several times during his 21 years of service with the Town if he is leadership material? Who is going to be named in his transition team and who will be his permanent Deputy Chief who has just as much authority as the Sheriff when/if the Sheriff is incapacitated or out of the country, etc..
I do not know Felix or anything about him or his credentials and Tyndall appears at first glance to be the only candidate with actual Administrative experience!! Being the Sheriff is more about being an administrator over millions of dollars and hundreds of employees than it is about policing! Someone needs to ask the hard questions and stop mud slinging or making unfounded allegations, just the facts please!!

I really want to know. I do hesitate to vote for Koon as it appears that so many at the SD are backing him. I don’t think it helps that Haley is backing him either. I am sick and tired of the same old same old from Lexington. Have we not learned that blindly voting for the status quo is stupid? Right now I can’t help but wonder if those at the SD are backing him because they think he stands a better chance of winning right now and they think if they back him that will help keep their jobs. In my opinion there are still some scum at the SD that need to go.

Ok ..
I called Danny Frazier when he was on town council to complain about a speed trap ticket I got with the idea he may understand my situation which was how dangerous driving through Lexington can be and maybe they should put there officers to better use. Frazier told me to not worry about the ticket, dont show up for court just forget about it. At the time on a daily basis town police were flying through my parking lot to avoid the same dangerous intersections I complained to Danny about. I did not ask Frazier to fix my ticket !!!
I was pissed off about the whole thing so I called Jay Koon … He says to me I cant believe your calling me to bust my balls about how we do things. Then he asks me do you know who Frazier calls to get these things taken care of Me and now your gonna pay that ticket. Best $80.00 I ever spent. Little ole me , believe me when I say there is a whole lotta Metts in Koon … same thing different day. Im a nobody in Lex. Can only imagine what Koons donars get away with.

So in other words, just like I said above, Frazier may ask Koon to fix tickets, but Koon wouldn’t have any part of it. You’re just ticked off because you’re one of the people that he wouldn’t give up his morals for. And by the way, you should learn the legal definition of a speed trap. If you knew what the actual definition was, you would know that there isn’t a single speed trap in the town of Lexington.

Dont be no naive. Koon told me personally he was the one who fixed tickets for Frazier. They had done it for friends of mine several times. What do you think gave me the idea to call someone I barely know. Calling Koon to complain about the speed trap was the mistake i made. He then and only then changed his mind and made me come pay the ticket. I kept the ticket I can show it to you. I didnt keep the ticket because I wanted to forget how corrupt these guys are. And your right I may not know the definition of speed trap but I do know that the State Supreme Court has said that ticket fixing is Police corruption.

Wow, talk about small ball. What’s next for Haley, an endorsement in the Forest Acres city council race?

Haley national clout “evaporating?” Despite your best (yet still lame) efforts, Haley will be a player next year. National ticket? No. But a player still.

As for the sheriff candidates, have you ever talked to Felix? A 5 minute conversation will be one of the longest half hours you’ll spend. He, like Britt, is a light weight.

Tyndall’s drinking problem is going to catch up with him. Don’t want hI’m to be sheriff when it does.

If McCarty and Shealy like Koon, he must be the better choice.

I wonder what Koon has done for Haley.

Haley uses Koon just as Danny Frazier does. Tickets!??

He is fixing something but I doubt it is tickets. There is much more here that has occurred.

I would love for Jay K. to publicly say he NEVER fixed or had knowledge tickets were fixed for or by Danny Frazier.

The Lexington shepel will do as told and elect Jay.

I would love for Koon to publicly say that he has never attended strip club parties while at lexington pd along with the curent police chief Greene.

That is right folks, Koon has attended platuim plus many times. He wants you to believe he is the Christian family man but he has a dark secret for stripper. Just like Danny Frazier does with them and prosititutes.

Go ahead Koon, please tell the public you never went to platuim plus, received special treatment and broke the very family values you are saying you stand for with the strippers?

And where is your proof? How do you know this?

Because I am ready to come forward after seeing how many public officials came there and used us girls treating us less the human but more of property.

Then if what you are saying is true and you can prove it you should.

fred February 26, 2015 at 2:52 pm

and yet you won’t, because you have no proof, because there is no proof. but it sure must be nice to be able to get on here and sling that trash around.

Disgusted Voter in Lexington February 11, 2015 at 9:05 am

I want to know how Ed Felix has risen to the top of the race when he was fired from the criminal justice academy while he was suing them.

The only reason he is rising in this race is because no one knows the real man he is and since they have not done proper research will elect a sheriff who has issues with authority, has a record of dishonesty and has a temper which could be found when checking out his home address with the sheriff’s department.

Dennis Tyndal has been very quiet in this race. He’s just hoping to win by default.

Justin Britt seems to be slinging more mud because he knows he is at a disadvantage. He does not have the experience needed to run a department of that size.

Jay Koon seems to be taking a hit because as an asst. chief, he worked for the town council, hence Danny Frazier. Jay is a family man and I have heard nothing about him attending any of those ring parties or hanging with main street crowd. I think you are confusing Jay with Stace Day.

Numerous Articles I’ve read said he RETIRED from there, he wasn’t Fired, also clearly stated RETIRED after settling a federal lawsuit alleging discrimination that blocked him from promotion, and as far as his home address problems that can be found as you say, WHY is it that from insiders that do have capabilities on confirmation of that, are not showing a history from that address that can be found on whitepages.com, He’s the only SANE choice by the four choices people have, as he doesn’t have all that Drama with regards to ties in Lexington County Controversial BS, also from the other comments on here from various sources and different fits news articles regarding this entire race would make most in their right mind to go for Felix, and now the added backing of Nikki Haley for Koon, there is a no brainer here but to run run like hell . Britt has less than a decade of LE behind him None of Authority High Brass Titles so we skip over all that and go from Road Deputy to Sheriff, Really ? and Tyndall whom already has 30yrs running his police dept over there
wasn’t that the problem with Metts he been im there tooo damn long ?, Perhaps if any people have any doubts about any of the candidates ,and want to hear their side of the story and the rumors , we the people have a choice and a chance to attend the question and answer forum with the public thats TODAY@ 6PM @ CHAPIN TOWN HALL

It’s a shame our Governor is supporting a snake like Jay Koon. If she knew the real Jay Koon she would not be giving her support. I worked with Jay Koon for many years so I know who he really is. All of the law enforcement accomplishments he lists on his campaign site are not his. These accomplishments were made by dedicated unnamed officers while he was attending Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce luncheons. He has embellished his resume better than even Bryan Williams could do at NBC. Lexington County voters please don’t buy into the Jay Koon lie. We need a real genuine lawman in office, not an empty suit handpicked by the establishment. Jay Koon is a self serving narcissist that does not deserve to be our Sheriff. Lexington County can do so much better…

Justin Britt may be the salt of the earth (which I doubt), but he just doesn’t have the experience. I have much more experience than he does, and I don’t think I’m up for it.
He has about a dozen years in, with half of that being in courthouse, which doesn’t even equal any experience. Right now, he’s so unprepared that he doesn’t even realize how unprepared he is. He might be a great candidate in about ten years, but not right now.

Jay Koon has been accused of being part of the Lexington County ring because of his “close” ties to Danny Frazier. That’s garbage. The reality is that Frazier was a councilman for the Town that Koon works for, and that’s the extent of it. The reality is that Koon could never stand Frazier. He did his job and helped make the Town a better place. Koon has been accused of fixing tickets for Frazier, but it didn’t happen– it was almost certainly requested of him, but it didn’t happen.

The only reasons that this claim is put out there is because it’s easy… Koon works for the town that Frazier was a councilman of, hence creating a perceived link in some people’s mind (I worked for the town for years and in all that time I never said more than 50 words to Frazier, whom I could not stand), and Koon is a lifetime resident of the area, which means everybody knows him and can therefore can push the “good old boys” argument onto him. So, with a little twisting of these two “perceived” links, a
man who has always wanted to honorably serve the community he grew up in
suddenly becomes a continuation of the corruption that has been so prevalent in
Lexington County. Not only is that a shame, it is also untrue.

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m truly not trying to be rude or disrespectful or anything like that. It’s just that I’ve worked in public safety for a long, long time and I’ve seen what makes a functional agency and what makes a great agency. Jay Koon demands excellence and accountability. Now that might not always make him beloved to his employees, but they always know where he stands, respect his honesty and integrity, and always know what standards he demands of them. The end result is a better and
more accountable law enforcement agency.

I also know Ed Felix personally. For obvious reasons, he comes off as a nice guy while politicking. However, in one-on-one with him, he’s a guy who believes that he should be held in awe by the position that he held– and that was just as an academy instructor… imagine how big headed he’d be as sheriff! He also thrives off of divisiveness and conflict, which is something I’ve seen enough of in Washington D.C., and therefore have no desire to see it here. If you want to really have an idea of what kind of person brings people TOGETHER instead of splitting them APART, go to Hendrix Street in Lexington and walk from one end to the other and ask every person you meet who they are voting for, and I bet 90% of them will tell you Jay Koon. The reason? They know that over 20 years he’s always on the level, he’s sees everyone as people, he’s fair, decent and down to earth.

Im glad you feel this way about Koon by the way. I trully pray we get the best sheriff possible. But the things i tell you about Koon are unfortunately true. I hate it as much as anyone. The way you feel about Koon is the way people felt about Metts. I hope the next Sheriffs tenure ends better. Im sorry friend but Koons words to me were,” do you know who Frazier calls to get tickets fixed … ME!”
Maybe he was trying to make an old friend and classmate understand how powerful he had become … but the facts are the facts. From what i understand they can pull cell phone records … if your interested. File a freedom of information request. The date was March 18 2010
