Dear Editor:

I too graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1980. I have watched a lot of Gamecock football.

Bottom line: I believe your football prediction is overly optimistic.

USC lost six starters on defense – all the linebackers – and most of those lost starters are playing on Sundays.

Anyway I predict the Gamecocks will go 7-5, and Clemson runs the table at 12-0.

Um, I didn’t graduate from USC in 1980. I graduated in 1997. And as for my 2013 prediction, I have yet to make one. As loyal FITS fans (and a few lucky gamblers) know I predict the outcome of each University of South Carolina and Clemson football game over on my Twitter page – occasionally with accompanying articles here on FITS. As to your main point, though, I agree USC has depth issues on both sides of the ball – although I believe the key anchors (Jadaveon Clowney and Connor Shaw/ Dylan Thompson) are there. My biggest concern is actually the loss of punt returner extraordinaire Ace Sanders.

Clemson loses to Georgia by 10. Denny’s prognosticating goes down in flames the first game of the year.

Each year SC has lost key players to the draft and rebounded the next year. Clearly this guy, a self-proclaimed USC graduate, has not been watching the ClemPson get their tiger tail spurred over the past 4 years. What a clown!?! It’s nice to see those little ACC tigers gaining some confidence and starting to surface again. It’s been REALLY quiet these past 4 years.

Either this letter isn’t real, or this guy is in no way a Gamecock fan. There are not 5 losses on the schedule for the Gamecocks and Clemson isn’t going 12-0. I am a Gamecock fan and honest about what is and isn’t and at most there are only 3 possible losses there. (Florida, Georgia, and Clemson), and I would bet we don’t lose but 1 of the 3. The only way we get 3 loses is 1 regular season, 1 SEC championship game and if we pull a bad ass team in the bowl which still quite possible could be a BCS at large game too. Clemson also has 3 possible losses on its schedule (Georgia, USC, and FSU) and I am thinking they lose 2. neither will be in the ACC, so with the title game included they will go on to be 11-2 going into the Orange Bowl as ACC champs. What they do there I have no idea as it depends on who they play I suspect Denny to be a Tiger posing as a gamecock for dramatics from Fits.

Was watching 2012 highlights just the other day, and I share your concern over the loss of Ace Sanders. He can be credited for several wins last year (almost alone), and I don’t know who will fill his role. Larenz Bryant will fill part of a huge hole (that’s what she said) at linebacker; the TE’s and Shaq Roland will more than balance out the loss of Ace as a WR; and the DL is going to be stacked, perhaps the best in the country.

I am a little more cautious than most when it comes to seeing grand illusions (delusions) this preseason, so I think the Cocks go 9-3– a major disappointment. In case you’re wondering, losses to UGA, UF aaaaand someone we should beat (UT, UCF or Mizzou).

With that said, Go Gamecocks. Fuck Clemson.

Good lord, cock lovers are easy to rile up.
You people are used to losing. Act like you’ve been there before. Because YOU HAVE.

The OBC has exorcised quite a few of the demons that have ravaged South Carolina football over the years, including losing to Clemson, losing to inferior teams, inept play calling, locker room drama, going flat against less than quality teams, and just plain not showing up for games. What remains to be seen is whether or not he can exorcise the remaining few, slow starts to the season (Vandi last year), short term implosions (Gators last year), and 4th quarter, game losing turnovers (LSU last year).
