Earlier this week, we ran a story that included an image of officers at the S.C. Department of Corrections (SCDC) transporting an unidentified female inmate into a Columbia, S.C. abortion clinic run by Planned Parenthood. The picture – reportedly taken on the morning of Saturday, May 30 – was one of several provided to us by lawmakers who are conducting an ongoing investigation of the government-subsidized abortion provider.
In the images, the woman is seeing entering the clinic at 7:28 a.m. EDT and exiting approximately an hour and forty minutes later.
The pictures prompted pro-life activists to demand that the director of the SCDC – an agency overseen by South Carolina governor Nikki Haley – be added to a list of subpoena recipients being compiled by the S.C. House of Representatives. They also spawned a host of questions, chief among them this one: Did the state of South Carolina facilitate a government-subsidized abortion?

That’s one-month-old Kooper Bryan Coates, whose mother Brook Coates is alleged to be the woman pictured in the images that were turned over to the S.C. House oversight panel.
Kooper was born seven weeks early, but is “happy and healthy.” In fact he’s putting on weight and is described by those who love him as “a beautiful little boy.”
How do we know all this? Easy. We spoke this week with Coates’ husband, Harvie Coates, who is currently taking care of the young lad at a residence in North Carolina.
He almost didn’t get the chance to care for Kooper. Both prison officials and Planned Parenthood staffers reportedly urged Brook Coates to abort her son, her husband told us.
“They were saying she needed to do it,” Harvie Coates said. “They said she wouldn’t survive the pregnancy.”
Apparently Brook Coates had a very difficult delivery with one of her other children and there were concerns about her blood pressure spiking during childbirth. But the couple “thought about it and prayed about it” and after consulting with their pastor they decided to have the baby.
“I’m glad we did,” he told us, although he quickly added “I don’t think its right for them to pressure people.”

Brook Coates was reportedly granted parole this month, and her husband and young son are hoping she will be released soon.
Several lawmakers who spoke with FITS tell us they are glad that Coates decided to have her baby, but they are livid over the pressure that was placed on the family to have an abortion. In other words while this particular story has a happy ending, they believe this situation was (is) the exception to the rule.
Planned Parenthood made national headlines earlier this year when details of its gruesome fetal body parts scam were unveiled by pro-life groups using hidden camera interviews.
“What we are dealing with is a holocaust, pure and simple … and there’s a special place in hell for those profiting off of it,” we wrote when this scandal broke. ” There’s also a special place in hell for the politicians and mainstream media outlets turning a blind eye to this story.”
Haley – a rumored vice presidential candidate – has been criticized for her woefully inadequate response to the scandal, which basically consisted of calling for an investigation and threatening to close down a few clinics if they didn’t make changes. No clinics were closed, though, and it was later revealed that the investigation Haley called for had already been conducted.
Furthermore, the governor has repeatedly refused to defund Planned Parenthood.

An Upstate mother has been charged after her child tested positive for methamphetamine.
Ashley Coates, 33, of Landrum, tested positive for the drug in a urine drug screen three days before she gave birth to her baby on December 5, 2013, according to the incident report provided by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said a hair test was done on the newborn and her other children.
They said one of them tested positive for meth.
DSS was called and the children were placed in the custody of their grandmother.
According to the incident report, Coates’ two older children have tested positive for the drug before and were placed into foster care in North Carolina.
She is charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

He reported the father’s statement. HIPA rules probably prevent PP or SCDC from commenting. So you will have to make your own conclusions. I’m skeptical that they discouraged her, but they probably warned her of the risks which she interpretation as discouragement.
