South Carolina’s 2026 election cycle made history – with Democrats winning their first statewide race in twenty years and capturing their first U.S. Senate victory since 1998. The Palmetto State’s perpetual minority party also flipped a congressional district – and ten seats in the S.C. House of Representatives.
All of a sudden, South Carolina is home to competitive elections… and the ruling GOP has a situation on its hands.
In our opening segment, founding editor Will Folks assesses the electoral upheaval – most notably the stunning upset of interim U.S. senator Darline Graham Nordone by Democrat Annie Andrews.
Will also discussed narrower-than-expected Republican wins in multiple statewide offices – including governor-elect Alan Wilson’s victory over Democrat Jermaine Johnson. Wilson’s upcoming agenda is also in the spotlight as he begins his transition to the Palmetto State’s chief executive office.

In our second segment, research director Jenn Wood joined us to discuss the aftermath of an aborted plea hearing in the case of Logan Federico – a 22-year-old student who was brutally murdered by a career criminal in Columbia, S.C. during the spring of 2025. Federico’s father, Stephen Federico, has become one of the most important figures in the fight to fix South Carolina’s badly broken “justice system” – which, as of this publication, continues to fail him and his family.
Finally, Jenn and Will briefly previewed next week’s status conference in the retrial of accused killer Alex Murdaugh – a hearing which will focus on his attorneys’ bid to throw out the original murder indictments issued against him. That effort caught a voluminous response from state prosecutors this week, which Jenn covered in extensive detail.
