The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has announced an arrest in connection with the murder of a pregnant 17-year old woman from Barnwell, S.C.
Jacqueline Reid, 62, of Barnwell, S.C., was arrested on Monday (July 1, 2024) and charged with two counts of murder in the death of Maylashia Hogg and her unborn daughter. Hogg was scheduled to be induced with a baby girl on February 13, 2024. She planned to name her daughter London Charity after her late mother.
Those plans met a violent end, however.
Hogg was reported missing on February 14, 2024. Four days later, her body was discovered in a ditch near Perry Street in Barnwell County. The investigation into her death was initially handled by the Barnwell Police Department (BPD) before it was turned into SLED.
According to warrants attached to the press release, Hogg was last seen on February 8, 2024 near Reid’s residence. The warrants indicated Reid is accused of stabbing Hogg multiple times with a sharp-edged weapon.

At the same time BPD was investigating the disappearance and murder of Hogg, they were also investigating the February 6, 2024 disappearance of 37-year old Michael Still from the same apartment complex. While many believed the two cases were connected, the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) released a statement there was “no concrete evidence” the two were related.
Still’s vehicle was found in the parking lot and his glasses were found in his apartment. Despite extensive search efforts, as of this writing he has not been located.

“No matter where you live, no matter where you’re from, everybody in this state deserves an equal level of law enforcement service,” SLED chief Mark Keel noted in a rare public statement. “Every case is important, and every victim deserves justice.”
Reid was booked into the Barnwell County detention center on Monday afternoon and her first court appearance is scheduled for August 26, 2024. The case will be prosecuted by the S.C. second circuit solicitor’s office.
As with anyone accused of committing any crime, Reid is considered innocent until proven guilty by our criminal justice system – or until such time as she may wish to enter some form of allocution in connection with a plea agreement with prosecutors related to any of the charges filed against her.

I am so glad they are getting Justice for this lady and her unborn, innocent baby! While their pain will never go away at least they can move on to the next chapter in life with the arrest.
What Mark Keel said is what WE have told him over and over but obviously he is only saying that because there’s nothing to cover up there.
What about my Son? Does he not deserve the same? Justice For Daniel Reed Smith is coming!
