Embattled South Carolina congressman William Timmons – whose chaotic personal life continues generating headlines across the Upstate – announced a slew of endorsements from state lawmakers and local leaders on Monday (June 3, 2024) as he fights to hold onto his seat.

According to a campaign news release, Timmons announced he had secured the backing of S.C. Senate majority leader Shane Massey, Senate finance chairman Harvey Peeler and state senators Josh Kimbrell, Scott Talley and Ross Turner. Timmons also boasted the backing of powerful House ways and means chairman Bruce Bannister, who referred to him as a “conservative leader,” “one of the hardest working persons I know” and someone who is “always fighting for us up in Washington.”

Timmons used the occasion of announcing his endorsements to throw additional shade at his GOP primary rival Adam Morgan, chairman of the S.C. Freedom Caucus.

“As more and more people learn about the real Adam Morgan, the more apparent it is that he is lying about his record and hasn’t shown up for work when his constituents needed him most,” Timmons said. “I want to keep fighting for Upstate families by working with other strong local leaders to find conservative solutions that will help improve the lives of all the people of South Carolina.”

Timmons is in a dogfight with Morgan, the first credible challenger he has drawn since winning this seat in the 2018 election.

While Timmons was touting his new support, Morgan – who has his share of local support – was busy working the pavement in the Upstate, knocking on the doors of voters.

“I love door-knocking,” Morgan wrote on X. “I want to truly represent the district. That means meeting the voters, hearing their concerns, and learning the communities and neighborhoods. Too many people ‘buy’ political seats with ads. I’m working to earn the voters trust and to be their voice.”

Morgan and Timmons face off on June 11, 2024 in the GOP primary for the fourth congressional district. Early voting in the race began last week and closes this Friday (June 7, 2024). For information on where to cast your ballot, visit SCVotes.gov.
