Murder Charges Filed In Colleton County Shooting

Two men facing murder, gun charges …

Murder charges have been filed against a pair of defendants in connection with a savage shooting death that took place in Colleton County, South Carolina earlier this week.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 in Walterboro, S.C. – a town of around 5,300 people located approximately fifty miles west of Charleston, S.C. The victim in this case? A 22-year-old black male named Akeem Carr.

According to warrants obtained by this news outlet, agents of the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) have arrested 23-year-old Reakwon Daye of Walterboro and 22-year-old Kareem Risher of Smoaks, S.C. and charged them in connection with Carr’s murder.

Daye and Risher were taken into custody following the shooting after SLED bloodhounds tracked them to a Walterboro home. They were found after allegedly fleeing the scene of the shooting in a 2018 Nissan Rogue – leading to a lengthy pursuit by deputies of the Colleton County sheriff’s office.

The Nissan Rogue eventually crashed, leading to a foot pursuit that ultimately required SLED’s assistance.

Both Daye and Risher were charged with murder and with the unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. They were booked at the Colleton County detention center and their cases will be handled by the office of S.C. fourteenth circuit solicitor Duffie Stone.

As with anyone accused of committing any crime, Daye and Risher are considered innocent until proven guilty by our criminal justice system or until such time as they may wish to enter a plea in connection with any of the charges filed against them.

SLED was called in to assist in the apprehension of Daye and Risher by the Colleton County sheriff’s office.
