GOVERNOR MOCKED …

National Democrats are taking note of the changing calculus in the 2018 “Republican” gubernatorial race in South Carolina.  Specifically, they are downright giddy over the declining fortunes of incumbent GOP governor Henry McMaster, who has seen his reelection campaign go from “slam dunk” to “oh, sh*t!” in less than half a year.

According to a press release from the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), McMaster returned from a two-day trip to Aspen, Colorado this week to find his “re-election campaign in deep trouble.”

“With every day that passes, his election prospects look worse and worse,” the release noted.

That’s true …

Democrats specifically pointed to the surprisingly strong challenge McMaster is facing from attorney Catherine Templeton, the impending entry of lieutenant governor Kevin Bryant into the 2018 race and the ongoing criminal investigation bearing down on McMaster’s longtime political ally, Richard Quinn.

“After failing to produce a substantive agenda, McMaster has quickly fallen out of favor with Republicans, and a set of well-funded GOP challengers, which now includes his own lieutenant governor, are lining up against him,” they noted.

To be clear, Bryant is not McMaster’s “own lieutenant governor.”  He was installed into this post by the State Senate as part of these shenanigans.  Aside from that, though, it’s hard to argue with the Democrats’ spin … even if they are unable to capitalize on it.

We think …

They are certainly right about a lack of substance emanating from the governor’s office, though.  Meanwhile, the only thing of substance to come from McMaster’s campaign organization so far are political broadsides against Templeton – punches the political newcomer has answered with a vengeance.

Meanwhile McMaster – despite pledging to focus exclusively on South Carolina – has failed to fix the dumpster fire he inherited from former governor Nikki Haley.   The Palmetto State’s outcomes remain abysmal – economicallyfiscallyeducationally and with regards to infrastructurepublic safety and other core functions of government.

In the six months since McMaster took office, this website has made repeated overtures to his government staff and his campaign organization in an effort to incorporate their perspectives into our stories – and to offer our microphone to communicate unfiltered messages to our audience.

Not a single one of those inquiries has received a response …

Oh well, our door remains open in the event McMaster or members of his team decide to avail themselves of our invitation.
