GOOD RIDDANCE …

Liberal former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg will not mount an independent bid for the presidency in 2016 – fearful of throwing the November election to a “Republican.”

“When I look at the data, it’s clear to me that if I entered the race, I could not win,” the billionaire wrote on the news service bearing his name. “I believe I could win a number of diverse states – but not enough to win the 270 Electoral College votes necessary to win the presidency.”

According to Bloomberg, this means he’d be reduced to playing the role of spoiler – with the likely results producing an outcome contrary to the liberal ideology he wants to advance.

“As the race stands now, with Republicans in charge of both Houses, there is a good chance that my candidacy could lead to the election of Donald Trump or Senator Ted Cruz,” Bloomberg added.  “That is not a risk I can take in good conscience.”

This isn’t the first time Bloomberg has toyed with the notion of running for president.  According to David Graham of The Atlantic, he’s been rumored as a possible White House contender in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Why didn’t he run?  Well, with establishment Democrat Hillary Clinton looking increasingly like the nominee of her party, there simply wasn’t any room for another “center-left” candidate.

“It’s incredibly hard to find many votes for a center-left third-party candidate without eating substantially into the Democratic coalition,” the political junkies over at FiveThirtyEight.com noted.

Were independent socialist U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders to be the Democratic nominee?  Then there would conceivably be a place for Bloomberg in the mix.

The nightmare scenario for Democrats?  A revolt on the party’s far left fringe (i.e. Sanders’ supporters staying home or finding another candidate) and/ or Clinton being indicted for her role in sending and receiving classified information on a non-secure email server during her tenure as U.S. Secretary of State.

The current Mayor is seeking 30 cents per can on soda, tax not deposit, which I could actually support.,

Brian Pagliano’s immunity deal means that the investigation has gone to the next step: that the Justice Department has convened a grand jury, that it presenting evidence to the grand jury, and it wants evidence from the young man that installed the server. And because he asserted his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, they offered him immunity — meaning he cannot be prosecuted for the words that he used.

BYE BYE Hillary.
