NOW IT’S UP TO S.C. HOUSE …

|| By FITSNEWS || A day after voting overwhelmingly to remove the Confederate flag from the grounds of the S.C. State House – State Senators followed through and gave the measure final approval.

This time the vote was 36-3.  And once again, Senators voted to simply take the banner down and move it to a museum rather than replace it with another flag.

Ordinarily such “third reading” of bills is ceremonial, but one outspoken supporter of the controversial banner – S.C. Senator Lee Bright – insisted on making Senators cast their ballots again.

The rebel banner has become an issue again in the aftermath of last month’s horrific, racially motivated “Holy City Massacre” – the mass murder of nine black churchgoers at the Mother Emanuel AME Church in downtown Charleston, S.C.  The Mother Emanuel victims – among them S.C. Senator Clementa Pinckney, the church’s pastor – were gunned down during a Bible study by Dylann Storm Roof, a 21-year-old white supremacist who used the Confederate flag as his calling card.

We’ve written extensively in the aftermath of the shooting in support of removing the flag – and doing so expeditiously.  We’ve also provided some extensive historical context related to this debate (see here and here).

The legislation now moves to the S.C. House of Representatives – which is scheduled to take it up on Wednesday, July 8.

The House can do one of three things – approve the Senate bill, amend it or reject it.

We’ve been told to expect a contentious debate over a proposed replacement banner, although sources familiar with the debate tell FITS there “should be” enough votes to approve the Senate bill and simply take the banner down.

We hope that’s the case …

As we’ve written, “both chambers need to move on to addressing the myriad of issues which make South Carolina one of the poorest, least intelligent, most underemployed, most dangerous states in America.”

Because that’s what all of our state’s citizens need them to focus on …

It’s nice to see flag supporters honoring their heritage with another overwhelming defeat. Later losers!

Welcome to the 21st century pal. This isn’t about honoring heritage, but about hatred, fear and terror.

We all know what that ‘heritage’ really was already.

It’s our heritage too you know!

Well, 3/5ths our heritage.

Yes!!!! Finally an America worth living in. All that hopey changey coming to fruition. A world where I can look in a mirror and tell myself whole heartedly that I had nothing to do with my own successes, it’s all due to my sex/race privilege.

Man, flag removal butthurt shows itself in sorts of ways. At least you have blogs like this to get your bigoted crap out.

Reply

Watching that flag come down while these loons rage is going to be incredible. Just the reaction from these racists alone will be worth it.

Yes it is. These goofs are short circuiting all over the Internet. Sounding more and more desperate and idiotic as the days progress. It is very entertaining watching the conservative asshole become more irrelevant to society. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving group of people.

You ain’t kidding. I was reading the comments on The State and I ran out of popcorn.

Check out The State’s and Sun News’ Facebook pages. The stupidity mixed with anger is fucking hilarious. They need to take more Confederate stuff down just for the entertainment value.

Rrrright on! July 7, 2015 at 1:03 pm

Will do.

Don’t forget, this is a meaningless victory and these flag defenders don’t really care, even though they’ll post here all day.

Wrrrong July 7, 2015 at 1:10 pm

Oh, it’s VERY meaningful to many people and just the beginning of a sea change in public opinion that will reach into many aspects of society. Going to be interesting…

Horseshit.

The best is the ‘vote them out crowd’. Two thirds of them think they will be doing that this November. LMFAO!

Soft Sigh from Hell July 8, 2015 at 9:03 am

“Next Tillman, then all Confederate memorials and place names”

The paranoid loons themselves can add “. . . and the American flag . . . and Jesus! And then even “South” off of South Carolina.”

Soft Sigh from Hell July 8, 2015 at 8:57 am

They put it up to slap black citizens in the face every day, but whine pathetically that we take some pleasure in their defeat.

OK, for some of us it is more than just some pleasure, and a few of us rub it up their noses, but it was their insult to black Americans that has now backfired. They can thank themselves and their heritage of hate..

Keep making irrelevant comments. You have no point to make now that the people are speaking and rejecting your bullshit ‘heritage’ nonsense. Think of Hillary. It will help take your mind off of another crushing defeat for your way of thinking.

I’m in full support of removing the flag, however pointless it may be. It’s a ridiculous debate that’s been spun into the latest quasi activist cause. So happy everybody had something to keep their simple brains occupied for a few weeks.

Wrrrong July 7, 2015 at 1:12 pm

Talk to African Americans in SC (if you know any). Calling it pointless it very ignorant.

Rrrright July 7, 2015 at 1:16 pm

I actually had a discussion with an african american client of mine just last night. She’s conveyed to me that she thinks the entire discourse is completely absurd. You guys would probably call her something really ugly for having her own opinion about it and not allowing herself to be pandered to by race baiters, opportunistic politicians and the media.

mamatiger92 July 7, 2015 at 1:18 pm

Sure you did….

Rrrright July 7, 2015 at 1:19 pm

That’s the best you have Mamatiger… “sure you did”. Compelling argument.

mamatiger92 July 7, 2015 at 1:21 pm

Almost as compelling as your completely believable account of your discussion with your African American client.

Bullshit
**cough cough**

Rrrright July 7, 2015 at 1:26 pm

Yes, in your feeble mind, someone who you disagree with couldn’t possibly have any african american clients, friends or family members. People like you are a large part of the problem with America. Have fun getting your tent sized underwear all bunged up over the next media frenzy.

mamatiger92 July 7, 2015 at 1:27 pm

No, my feeble mind knows that you are full of shit.

Rrrridiculous July 7, 2015 at 1:28 pm

Rrrright July 7, 2015 at 2:19 pm

Yes, I bow to your social superiority. Must be awesome sauce to be you.

Wrrrong July 7, 2015 at 1:28 pm

Geez, Rrrright. Relax buddy. Think of your ‘clients’. lol

Wrrrong July 7, 2015 at 1:27 pm

I think ‘Rrrright’ is trying to have it both ways. Around African Americans he supports the flag coming down. Then to white folks, he says it’s pointless and taking it down won’t change anything.

Wrrrong July 7, 2015 at 1:22 pm

I haven’t talked to a African American in SC isn’t happy about it removal. She probably is sick of white people talking about it. Especially if she is just trying to do business.

Rrrright July 7, 2015 at 2:55 pm

The nanny boo boo of politics is as nauseating as it is sophomoric. It’s laughable to me that these “moral superiors” are so intellectually inferior that they can’t see the political forest for the impending election season trees.

It’s self defense…. I’m sick of the race-hate and blame I’m hearing from the black community, and tired of hearing all the “you people” BS.
