BUT … WHY?
|| By FITSNEWS || S.C. governor Nikki Haley is constitutionally barred from seeking a third term as governor of South Carolina … so why is she raising cash for her campaign committee?
That’s a good question. But after receiving a tip this week from a source in the “funded community,” we can confirm Haley has been reaching out to several donors in an attempt to replenish her campaign account.
Haley raised more than $8 million for her 2014 reelection effort – most of which was spent on advertising and consultants. According to the latest campaign finance reports, she had a little over $370,000 left in her campaign account after spending roughly $170,000 during the first quarter of 2015 ($100,000 of which went to the company owned by her longtime advisor, Tim Pearson).
Why would Haley need to replenish her account if she’s not running for office again? After all, the governor wouldn’t be able to transfer the money to another race – nor would she be able to use the money as leverage in her ongoing battles with “Republican” state lawmakers.
Haley could, however, use campaign funds to pay for various travel-related expenses that aren’t covered by the state – which would be wise given her history.
Or she could use the money to run for governor in 2022 ….
Don’t laugh!
Former S.C. governor Mark Sanford is still sitting on more than $1 million after his 2006 reelection over Democrat Tommy Moore – which has fueled speculation that he might re-seek the office he held from 2003-11.
Oh well, if we get any additional details on Haley’s latest fundraising efforts we’ll be sure to let you know …
