WEBSITE OFFERS “IPO” ON CHICAGO BEARS’ WIDE RECEIVER

|| By FITSNEWS || We love us some Alshon Jeffery … always have.

One of the greatest wide receivers in the history of the University of South Carolina, Jeffery was an integral component in the program’s biggest victory and the guy who snared arguably its greatest catch.  Since leaving the Gamecocks after the 2011 season, he’s become a force to be reckoned with in the National Football League – posting back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving campaigns.

Now … do we love Alshon enough to buy stock in him?

Well … that depends on whether we can decipher this bizarre webpage, which purportedly offers “shares” of Alshon for $10.00 a pop.

Offered by Fantex, LLC, the shares in Jeffery aren’t really an ownership stake in the player (that would be, um, historically uncomfortable) but rather “the separate economic performance of a specific brand contract that Fantex, Inc. has signed with an athlete.”

“This is not a direct investment in that athlete or brand contract,” the prominently featured disclaimer adds.  “It represents an ownership interest in Fantex, Inc. Fantex cannot assure you as to the development or liquidity of any trading market for this stock.”

Ummmm … okay.

We have absolutely no idea what any of that means, but the website did produce a pretty slick one-minute video of Jeffery accompanying its “investment” pitch – part of its belief that “the essence of Alshon’s brand is as an ambassador.”

“Alshon used his incredible work ethic as a driving force to send a message of endless possibility to those coming from underserved or disadvantaged backgrounds,” the pitch continued.  “Alshon sees it as his mission to bring hope to communities that cannot change on their own. Every day, he puts in the effort to demonstrate that no matter how small one starts, you can still end up big.”

Interesting …

The only problem with this deal?  For the time being buying stock in Alshon means buying stock in Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler – who suffered through a disappointing 2014 campaign after signing a seven year, $156 million deal last January.

Are you talking to yourself again, but forgot to change names this time? What’s the matter, the kids in the park got hip to what you really are?

He is an overachiever, especially for a guy who was supposed to “end up pumping gas” for a living. Might be a good investment after all.

I wish Alshon was a Packer, he’d be on track to reach 100 reception seasons like Sharpe and Brooks

He is one of the best bargains the Bears have ever gotten in a draft, getting a person with 1st round talent in the second round.
