CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson University and head football coach Dabo Swinney have agreed to a new eight-year deal, the athletic department announced today. The terms were approved by the Clemson University Board of Trustees Compensation Committee.

“Dabo is one of the top coaches not only in the ACC but in the entire nation,” director of athletics Dan Radakovich said. “His teams have succeeded on the field, in the classroom and in the community. We’re excited to have him lead our program for a long time into the future.”

Swinney has compiled a 51-23 mark over his first six seasons (five full seasons), posting a 33-12 record in Atlantic Coast Conference games and advancing to postseason bowl play each year. Swinney’s Tigers have recorded three-consecutive seasons of double-digit victories for the first time since 1988-90, including a school first 11 wins in each of the last two years. Clemson finished the season ranked seventh in the final USA Today Coaches’ Poll, the highest ranking in any final poll for the program since the Tigers won the national championship in 1981. Clemson’s five victories over teams ranked in the top-10 in the last three years are exceeded only by Alabama and Oklahoma, who each have six.

Off the field, Swinney’s team has finished among the nation’s top 10 in the NCAA’s Academic Progress Report each of the last three years. The program leads the ACC with 29 All-ACC Academic selections since Coach Swinney took the reigns, and Swinney continues to emphasize the importance of service in and around the Clemson community. This season the team assisted with the construction of a pair of houses for Habitat for Humanity and hosted a holiday event for local underprivileged youth. Dabo’s All-In Foundation, with a mission of raising awareness of critical education and health issues in order to change lives of people across the state of South Carolina, has donated and pledged nearly $1 million to local organizations over the past four years.

“I’m extremely excited and appreciative for the opportunity to continue to build our program under the leadership of President Jim Clements and our athletic director Dan Radakovich,” Swinney said. “The future of Clemson University is extremely bright and the future of our football program is as well. While we have accomplished many goals, we still have several out there to reach and we will continue to work to get there. Kathleen and I are looking forward to continuing to be a part of the great community of Clemson, the Upstate and the state of South Carolina.”

Being a Tiger Fan, It disturbs me that he would get an 8
year deal. I feel as if college coaches should only have the one year deal and
offered a 4 year extension each year but He has done a good job.

When I listen to the sports talk shows, I hear the USC folks
go on and on about how much he is a cheerleader. Those same folks say the Pete
Carroll with the Seahawks is a GREAT COACH because he is enthusiastic and
excited when he does the same thing.

What is the difference? “Let the games begin”

Reply
GrandTango January 18, 2014 at 11:43 am

The cheerleader does not bother me. Dabo just seems like a little bar-fighter redneck, snapping at the big dog’s ankle, ’til he gets the $#!t kicked out of him. Then he whines about it….

It’s embarrassing. He tries too hard to sell. If he is a good coach, and secure, he’d just do his job, and not talk about it, like he’s trying to convince, so much…

Thank God, I thought my little shadow puppy “bless her heart” was lost. I posted and it took five hours for her to respond.

I know you get lonely sometimes and comment as others and then actually respond to them, but I would never leave you JV. You are my bitch. Now go post as Norma Scok again or VoiceofReason. They are all you. Here’s a hint sweet lips, you cant make that $20 playing with yourself. Now get back out there. Funny you never heard your coach say that, well maybe when he was done with you in the showers.

Squishy123 January 19, 2014 at 11:15 am

Bad dog, bad dog… sit!!!

If you think I’m those same people you might want to seek help, I’m not the one going around changing his/her name every other post like you do.

I don’t believe you played for Dirtpecker U., you stated you did but let’s see some proof. Actually if I really cared I could probably look up the roster for pitchers during those four years and find out who you really are… I’d do that right after my home prostate exam kit gets here.

bless her heart January 19, 2014 at 12:17 pm

but you did bitch. You know you did. I’ve shown the same amount of “proof” you have D2. go earn your $20.00.

Squishy123 January 19, 2014 at 3:07 pm

“Alabama mouth, Vanderbilt trophy case”

“Wait ’til next year!!!”

Are the former USC baseball rosters online, or did the athletic department decide that they should just stay the bad dream that they were.

bless her heart January 19, 2014 at 6:09 pm

“wait ’till next year”? I don’t think any gamecock is saying that after a 3rd straight top 10 finish and #4 this year with domination over that Upsate team. The only way we say wait till next year is yet another win over you assclowns, You have been summoned to the locker room D2. Time to earn that $20. why else were you on the team? It isn’t the way you played JV.

Squishy123 January 19, 2014 at 7:22 pm

All that time practicing and playing and still 2nd in the SEC-East all those years, no rings, no championship game, no conference title? Sitting at home watching the game just like the Vanderbilt fans.

Where you ranked before the conference and bowl games, that’s the true ranking… the final rankings are for teams who play extra games and half of them tack on another loss to their record.

You really need to give up on the gay sexual comments, it’s obviously you’re still a scared little boy stuck in the closet.

Squishy123 January 19, 2014 at 7:55 pm

Just out of curiosity I looked up Dirtpecker U.’s men’s basketball records from 1984-1988.

1984-85 15-13
1985-86 12-16
1986-87 15-14
1987-88 19-10

So I was right, they sucked.

bless her heart January 19, 2014 at 9:09 pm

So if I sucked but still played D1 what would that say for you not even able to play at that level? You just answered it yourself and proved my point. What a inexperienced JV style move.

also to the other post “Where you ranked before the conference and bowl games, that’s the true ranking… the final rankings are for teams who play extra games and half of them tack on another loss to their record” Yes, and in the top ten each year.
Im surprised you knew how to use a computer to look up anything other than your technique to help you make another $20

Squishy123 January 20, 2014 at 8:37 am

Well for one there weren’t any D-I schools within 300 miles of my hometown and I went to a small town high school so we weren’t exactly a mecca for D-I recruiters. I know one person within a 50 miles radius of my hometown that played D1 basketball. Most that went on to play college went NAIA or D-II and likely finished their degree rather than having the “NBA or nothing” career plan. I bet with my career path, I have earned more money than 99% of D-I Dirtpecker U. men’s basketball players in team history, so… I win.

The fact that you played and sucked isn’t exactly something to be proud of. It basically means you were out of your league compared to your competition. Would you rather play for a D-I school and be in the bottom half of your conference or pay for a D-II school, with winning seasons and making the playoffs every year, including making the D-II Elite Eight one year? Who knows maybe I could have walked on to Dirtpecker U. and sat on the bench while the team struggled for that elusive .500 record.

bless her heart January 20, 2014 at 10:01 am

keep telling yourself that. Anyone that plays worth a damn would rather play for a better team. So you admit you would have sat the bench in D1 too. Damn its no wonder they didn’t wasn’t you. Not with that kind of “go get em” attitude to go with your very limited skills. You are what coaches call a lost cause, and then put them on the JV team.

Squishy123 January 20, 2014 at 10:46 am

So you’ve got nothing about Dirtpecker U. sucking in every sport during that decade… including the one you supposedly played. Alabama mouth, Vanderbilt trophy case was alive back then too.

You stated you were a pitcher, what was your record and stats? Couldn’t
have been that impressive because you apparently went nowhere but home to mommy after your
college career. Tell us why you didn’t go pro, in baseball anyone with any talent gets at least a look. There are something like 30 MLB teams each with at least one A, AA, and AAA farm team. Figure a minimum of 20 players on each roster.

30 x (20 MLB + 20 AAA + 20 AA +20 A) = 3600 professional baseball players playing in this country and you weren’t one of them. I know two players that played at the same time for my school that made it all the way to the Majors, one is a two-time World Series pitcher, one played infield for three years before dropping down to AAA then retired. Not too bad for a D-II product.

bless her heart January 20, 2014 at 2:05 pm

AWW D2 is the truth finally getting to you? It seems you are researching a lot and trying to hard, so it must be. If you only put that much into your playing you might have made more than JV.

Squishy123 January 20, 2014 at 10:09 pm

I see you’re continue to skirt the fact that Dirtpecker U. sucked in every sport during your college career. You’re awful quiet about that fact.

bless her heart January 20, 2014 at 10:43 pm

Not skirting it, just pointing out if they sucked that bad, how funny it is they didn’t even want you. That means you really sucked JV.

Thomas January 18, 2014 at 8:00 pm

That is right. I wonder how much Clemson (SC taxpayers) will have to pay to buy out his contract in 2016 when the fans turn on him for a new coach mid season. Get ready for 6-7 win seasons.

On queue…FITS reports only the heavily controlled propaganda Clemson feeds to him and the rest of the Lame-Stream media.

Brewing underneath is the specter of Chad Morris’ departure. The BIG (and dreadfully feared) question is: Is Morris trying to jump ship because he knows how bare the cupboard is, and Clemson’s best day has passed under Dabo??

And: When Morris finally does get hired out of H#!!-Hole U, How many wins a year does he take with him? At least 3… coupled w/ the 2 Guaranteed loses already on Clemson’s schedule…and a sure bowl loss, because it’s a non-ACC opponent.

7-6 in the ACC, and they’ll be lucky to draw 50,0000 to a home game..and you can only fudge attendance numbers for so long, before the rubes figured it out.

carls jr January 18, 2014 at 9:05 pm

What’s wrong, you’re not worried about raises for Clemson faculty and staff today? All this money for a football coach? You were worried about the poor souls employed at USC when Spurrier got his extension. How come it’s not a big deal at Clemson, Orange Boy? Phony P.O.S.

he is a bitch January 18, 2014 at 11:10 pm

Squishy is Norma, and Voice of reason. he is a jealous bitch that couldn’t play for USC like he wanted to since he wasn’t good enough, so all he can do is try to bash them and act like he doesn’t care. Just let him go make his $20 for blowing ex, Clemson football players in Myrtle beach.

Squishy123 January 19, 2014 at 11:23 am

And “he is a bitch” is also “still better than you” and “bless her heart” and probably others. At least I don’t sit here and argue with myself like you do. Are you also GrandTango… the two of you seem to think along the same lines.

Actually when I played, USC sucked in basketball… I believe that would have been under half-pint Fogler.

How do you know what blow jobs cost in Myrtle Beach? Nevermind, I think I answered that myself… it’s the only sexual experience you get other than your right-hand.

your my bitch January 19, 2014 at 12:15 pm

A, I have never argued with myself, you have, B. you know damn well if you played before the late 80’s as you claimed before Fogler wasn’t even at Vandy yet let alone USC. Wow for someone who claims not to know anything about the program (like you did as to why you didn’t play here) you know about them know. And C. you know your article was written on here about how much you charged in Myrtle Beach. Now your being called back into the showers. It time to earn that spot on your d2 team juicy lips

Squishy123 January 19, 2014 at 3:12 pm

I never said I played before the 1980’s, I played from 1984-88. Weren’t those the Fogler years? I wasn’t anywhere SC at the time and they weren’t anything but a practice squad for UNC at the time so nobody cared. Go back and live the one good memory of your D1 Dirtpecker baseball career, the first time you stepped foot on the field, I suspect it was all downhill from there… had you been any good you would have made one of the dozens of farm clubs. I guess that 18 year old Dominican who couldn’t speak English, never played baseball on anything but a dirt lot was better to you according to the scouts.

little bitch January 19, 2014 at 3:36 pm

you played 84-88? that was a full ten years before Eddie Fogler? If they sucked as bad as you claim its odd they still didn’t want you isn’t it? Its all too obvious where this hatred comes from JV

Squishy123 January 19, 2014 at 7:25 pm

Okay they sucked during Fogler and before Folgler… let’s just say they were irrelevant during the time I was playing. Where I was from, Carolina basketball was North Carolina and North Carolina State basketball. Dirtpecker U. was little more than a practice squad much like the baseball team when you were playing.

too bad January 19, 2014 at 9:04 pm

and yet they still didn’t want you did they JV?

Squishy123 January 19, 2014 at 11:19 am

Yes I am. I also don’t believe a college coach should have a contract extension that takes him over 4 years.

carls jr January 18, 2014 at 9:10 pm

As Spurrier said today: “We’ve been fortunate to beat that big orange team from the upstate about five straight years pretty convincingly.” And it kills you every day Squishy, because you can’t live with the facts. You and your delusional orange brothers can make believe they came up with stupid comments like the Alabama mouth one. You gotta live with the 5-bomb for another year…and if you have a hint of football knowledge, you would know 6 is a definite.

Norma Scok January 18, 2014 at 9:17 pm

Funny you left out the shots he took at Sammy Watkins. The jabs at Dabo..who gives a hit. When he starts going after players, he’s showing his ass.

Gotta wonder..Was Slurrier loaded (again)?

Squishy123 January 19, 2014 at 11:18 am

Well the “Alabama mouth, Vanderbilt trophy case” is the truth. If not, convince me otherwise.

“Wait ’til next year!!” Will this be the year the Dirtpeckers win their National Championship? Dirtpecker fans are already bring up the topic.

Sports is one thing. To advocate death of another human being, over a game, is disgusting.

I knew the domination was getting to you, because it will continue and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. But to express that type of hate is about as low-life as you can get.

I used to think Ga. barely beat out Clemson for the scummiest fans. But I think this stretch of humiliation Spurrier has subjected Clemson to, has revealed that Taters are the absolute bottom of the barrel, as far as fandom goes.

The events of the last week just magnifies the stupidity of this state. Clemson and S
Carolina fans should be ashamed.

In 2010, Clemson’s record was 6-7, 4-4 ACC play. This was Dabo’s 2nd full season at the wheel having taken over midway the 2008 season. This is what Dabo really looks like w/o Boyd. Boyd’s talent drew in gifted receivers to catch his passes, not Dabo. Boyd’s arm won games, not Dabo. Boyd owns 58 Clemson and ACC single-game, single-season and career records. Dabo got the credit but does he really deserve to be coaching in….SC? I think he will be hard pressed to explain two losses in September. The shine will be soon dulled w/o Boyd running the offense. Just sayin’…

GrandTango January 18, 2014 at 8:28 pm

You are correct…and Times 10 if Morris can get himself hired elsewhere. Because Boyd’s improbable rise coincided w/ Morris’ hiring.

They will be left w/ a dearth of coaching talent, if Morris leaves. Why do you think Morris is the highest-paid asst. in college football?

I just don’t see the wisdom in locking in Dabo….at least w/o seeing what he can do in 2014.

Deshaun Watson ring a bell? Kid was the number 1 QB prospect in the nation for the 2014 recruiting class. There will be an interesting QB battle in Tiger Town this spring.

do these guys ring a bell? January 20, 2014 at 10:26 am

Because all of those prospect rankings mean so much. 5 star recruits like Mike Bellamy, and Willy Korn really worked out up in Taterville recently didn’t they?

Reply
Cush January 20, 2014 at 10:43 am

That may be true. Korn was injured, ufortunate, but it happens. Bellamy was an idiot and was booted for good reason. Spurrier would have let the kid run wild like that idiot Garcia.

This year Clemson robbed the state of Georgia taking the best WR, QB, TE, RB, and 2nd best LB. And I hope we beat the crap out of UGA with their own in-state players.

Even if these kids don’t work out, they can always polish all of our trophies.

WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR. THAT’S A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM

do these guys ring a bell? January 20, 2014 at 1:08 pm

Going the Clowney route huh? that’s the typical Clem5on motto, “if you cant beat talk about them”. I am sure he did just as well as Smoking Sammy Potkins did at Clemtech.

Cush January 20, 2014 at 1:23 pm

Lose to Tennessee aka “Clemsoning” (how ironic is that btw) then whine about not making a BCS bowl, nor winning any championships, or conference titles. It’s the Gamecock way.

do these guys ring a bell? January 20, 2014 at 2:02 pm

Sammy could stop on a dime, but he couldn’t score against the gamecocks. and we could have back doored into an overrated BCS and act like it means something. The WV year you were #22 and this year, what place nationally did you finish? There were 3 teams that should have been there over you. Why don’t you go cry about being the 4th option and have everyone know it. I’ll take a top 4 finish with 3 wins over top 10’s over doing nothing anyday over just one win. Sounds like your bitch ass is wearing the panties in this one princess. While we are beating you for the next 5 years what are you going to do? you don’t have a chance at an unearned BCS again. Remember sunshine if we were so bad, how the fuck did you lose to us the last 5 years. that truth that you suck must really hurt.

Cush January 20, 2014 at 5:30 pm

Only the Gamecocks could accomplish so much and have so little to show for it. It’s quite funny. Enjoy your little streak Mary, because one day, the chickens will plummet back to Earth.

Anyway… Me thinks someone got their lil panties in a knot. Are you angry ma’am?

do these guys ring a bell? January 20, 2014 at 6:12 pm

Trust me no 3rd rate program from a 2nd rate conference’s fan could make me upset. Enjoy not being the better team a few more years. We have heard the streak will end for the last 3 years and it seems to be going fine still, even with your best team ever this past year. You still couldn’t win. You are as much if not more of a little girl than all those tough guys playing for your team. Team Dabo (which loosely translates into a cheerleader squad) isn’t going to win for a while.
You mad Miss?

Cush January 20, 2014 at 10:25 pm

Just to be crystal clear… Didn’t a team from that “2nd rate conference” win the national title? Hey can I ride coat tails too? Or is that just for SEC fans like yourself?

Who am I kiddin’… coat tail riding sucks shit. Only a douche with no convictions would do that. I root for my team and my team only. But you can quit with the inferior conference bullshit.

do these guys ring a bell? January 20, 2014 at 10:47 pm

It is an inferior Conference. 1st title since 1997, or something
like that. It had just the one team in the top 5 in the nation, while the SEC had 3 with one being those “coat riders” you speak of. Those same “coat riders” have also finished top 10 in the last 3 years so who is trying to ride coat tails? Clem5on hasn’t done any of that and hasn’t even been the best team in your own state in over 5 years. Hell the year you won a pop warner title known throughout the nation as the ACC not only were you not the best team in your own state, you were only the #22 in the nation, so yeah that proves it’s an inferior conference. The only BS on here is that Tiger coach crying he cant get respect while he acts like an assclown and plays red rover red rover walking arm and arm with the team he is also the captain of the cheerleading squad for, well he gets no respect because he hasn’t done anything to earn it. USC is one of only 3 teams to win 11 games in each of the last 3 years not to mention the 10 we won 4 years ago all while playing the best teams in the country each year. Clemson hasn’t beaten a team to actually finish in the top 10 in a long time (LSU, UGA and OSU did not finish there, so no they don’t count), USC beat 3 this year as the only team in the nation to do so, so again what coat tails are we riding? All but 3 teams in the entire county would have wanted to finish where USC did and you Taters are one of them. You got a participation award this year for being the 4th best option to get go to the Orange Bowl and the whole football world knows it. Good job, it was so earned. You still lost to the better team yet again,
with the best team you have had in years. The future is not nearly as bright as you would like to think it is. Come back when you finally win again, until then you are beneath a response. You mad sis? I am done with you. You aren’t worth it.

Cush January 20, 2014 at 11:06 pm

Thanks for that. I may print this novel you typed out and use it to wipe my ass the next time I go take a Spurrier.

Real truth, not tater truth January 28, 2014 at 2:40 pm

You might want to check on those facts. Deshaun Watson is not the #1 QB in 2014 class. Kyle Allen is. He is also the #10 prospect over all and is going to A&M. Deshawn Watson is #42 overall prospect (he is #1 dual threat QB but not #1 overall QB).

Congratulations to Coach Swinney.

I wouldn’t have any football coach’s job – especially yours. There are a lot of sick, crazy, stupid people out there. And then, there are the faculty, who think the school could afford their ridiculous salaries without your football program.

I am a Sakerlina fan from birth, and a true garnet and black fan from the git-go. But I am also a lover of this crazy State and you Tigers often make us proud. So, good on you, and I hope you win every game you play, save one.
