WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Mark Sanford released the following statement in response to the President’s announcement regarding changes to the National Security Agency:

“The President’s announcement yesterday is long overdue in light of the big questions that have arisen in the wake of Edward Snowden’s disclosures of NSA activity,” Sanford said. “That having been said, I give him credit for addressing these troubling actions at the Agency, and I hope that this announcement serves as a catalyst to begin a larger conversation about where we go next.”

“I think it’s clear that more significant, comprehensive reforms are needed, and as such Congressman Sensenbrenner and a few others have introduced excellent large scale reforms that I hope we have the chance to pass this spring,” Sanford continued. “I myself have added a small accompanying bill to all the others out there, and while it’s not a big change, I think it’s a measured but important step.”

“In essence, I’m concerned that at a very basic level, there’s not a strong enough process of accountability and oversight in place to guarantee that any reforms we make at the NSA are indeed enforced,” Sanford continued. “So instead of appointing an official at the White House to do this as the President indicated in his speech, an independent Inspector General could accomplish the same task. As such, I wrote a bill that would require the Inspector General to be confirmed by the Senate, and given the level of bipartisan support it’s received so far, I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to consider it in the House soon.”

Don’t they watch Faux News?

Nah, he’s just concerned that the NSA may intercept some potentially damaging and/or racy e-mails between him and whomever. He wants NSA to BACK-OFF…he’s already been down that road.

Anybody believes or trusts this prick, I have a bridge to sell them on the Cooper River, at a great price too!
Anyone who will lie and cheat on their spouse and children, can never be trusted by anyone for any reason. They already have character flaws and personality disorders, which are inherent in their psychological makeup and untreatable!
Trust and believe someone with these flaws, at your own risk!
To elect someone like this is a GREAT mistake!

Most conservatives see him as a placeholder and vote against the worst of liberalism and aren’t expecting much else.

If the Republican party wants to be seen with respect and accountable, not hypocritical, get rid of the likes of:
Sanford
Eckstrom
Haley
Leatherman
the Peelers
Cromer
All of these are an embarrassment to the Party and what it should stand for!

A friend of mine worked at the capital. She referred to the Peelers as “wormy feelers” due to their proclivity for chasing and hitting on any woman who was in the vicinity.

Agreed. However, It seems we are often stuck with the likes of these slugs because few people have the desire or the money to enter the swampland of politics. You end up with ineffectual, rhetoric spouting, self-serving types on both sides of the aisle who go through the motions but do little to advance the peoples’ cause unless it by chance lines their own pockets or contributes to their greater glory.

Long ago when I was a kid, I remember a wise old Episcopal priest saying; “The light that shines farthest shines brightest at home.”. It’s still true & Sanford is still a disgrace.

Well that explains it! Jenny S. was looking and sounding fabulous at the recent Krewe of Charleston event. Living a life of integrity, charity, fidelity, and dignity will do that for you. Sanford and his booty call… not so much. Way to go!

Did Sanford really just say:
“I am concerned that at a very basic level, there’s not a strong enough process of ACCOUNTABILITY” !!!!!
Does he not have a mirror???
Hey Mark, you make an absolute mockery of that word!!!
You sadly are a sick shame excuse of a Congressman, a man no parent can really hold up to their children as a real leader!
You are nothing more than a ghost in the US Congress. I never hear ANYONE in the First District speak of any work, stand, leadership or initiative you are heading! You know this is true!
You are compromised beyond competency! A politician who sought office for self, not service-

An Inspector General to provide oversight… the importance of accountability…. Sounds good, right? Must warm the cockles of his family’s and constituent’s hearts to hear him speak so. Until, they realize, he has and always will, hold himself exempt.
Such is the way of a disordered person.

Isn’t the 200k a year this moron takes from the taxpayers for sitting on his ass enough. The energy consumed by the computer while someone typed this press release is more valuable than his opinion. I hate this pathetic taker.

Why do Republicans like their government check and government health care so much?

We have the: FBI, CIA, The Secret Service, Federal Marshals, numerous local Police, etc., etc., etc. Why do we need the NSA???

Let’s see, we have well over 300 million US Citizens, probably a lot more counting immigrants and etc. We’ve sacrificed over 1 to 2 million military over the centuries to gain our freedoms. And, all those criminal A-hole terrorist have done is kill a few thousand of us. Where upon we wiped out their entire countries, and killed tens of thousands of them.

We don’t need the NSA to protect us from anybody on the planet. Maybe the Terrorists need the NSA to protect them from us. Hey, wait a minute, isn’t that what’s actually going on. All these so called “Protections,” are actually keeping the average American Citizens from grabbing the first Nuke Bombs we can launch and wiping the entire middle east off the map.

Scrap the NSA, bulldoze their computer centers, and nuke the living hell out of anybody who tries a stunt like attacking one of our cities or citizens again. Nuff Said!
