Columbia, S.C. – This morning, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus sent letters to NBC and CNN regarding their intentions to produce films celebrating the life of Hillary Clinton.
In his letters, Chairman Priebus said that if CNN and NBC proceed, he will seek a binding vote of the full Republican National Committee that would bar Republicans from participating in any primary or Presidential debate with the two networks.
S.C. Republican Party Chairman Matt Moore fully supports Chairman Priebus’ position and will vote to ratify it at the next Republican National Committee meeting, held this month in Boston, unless the two networks stop producing the films:
“I say, ‘Not in South Carolina!’ to debates produced by networks that act more like Hillary Clinton’s campaign team than unbiased news sources,” said Chairman Moore. “Such political favoritism has no place in American journalism. It’s unacceptable, and those networks have no business hosting Presidential debates in South Carolina unless they stop production.”
South Carolina has hosted the “First in the South” Republican Presidential Primary since 1980. In the 2012 election cycle, five Presidential debates were held in South Carolina.

I don’t know what’s dumber, a movie celebrating Hillary Clinton, or the GOP relegating their debates to appearing on fewer and fewer mediums. If it is anything like the Myrtle Beach debate it will certainly be on Comedy Central’s radar.

While I disagree with the manner in which the GOP has decided to throw what will be perceived as a big “hissy fit,” they do have a point. I wonder what any real journalist at NBC/CNN thinks of this?
The only real reason to produce something like this would be:
1) The public is clamoring to know more about this public figure.
2) To drive a message or agenda
You tell me which it is. Equal time exists for a reason and this would probably be the poster child for it.

Frankly, i don’t plan to watch it…don’t know anyone who would. I’d rather watch that game show where idiots run the obstacle course and get knocked into the water. Hmmm…that gives me an idea for how to choose our next president….

Bachmann, Perry, Santorum, Gingrich, Herman Cain, Hell, all of them. With less exposure, you might have a chance.

Given that the Republican Party seems no closer than it was in 2012 to reaching a decisive break between its radical and moderate wings, if I were Priebus, I might want to keep that debate between them as far away from mass audiences as possible. Given how far moderate Republicans like Mitt Romney have had to run to the right during their primary campaigns, one of the things that debates do is generate a vast trove of high-quality clips of things that the eventual nominee will eventually have to try to explain away in a shortened general election season. If I were Priebus, I’d want as few of those debates as possible, and I’d want them to happen further from the public eye so my eventual candidate has less baggage that can eventually be hung around her or his neck.

Past MSNBC and CNN Republican debates have been filled with negative questions, and have provided little or no insight into the critical issues that the average Republican primary voter cares about.
When was the last time you heard questions at a Republican debate on school choice, tax reform, limited government, and other topics that Republicans care about? A debate moderated by Chris “get a thrill up his leg” Matthews or Anderson Cooper is going to be highly negative with questions dealing with a divided party, the war on women, abortion rights, the perceived failings of W, and other issues that we just don’t care about.
A Republican debate should be hosted by conservatives or at the least, an objective journalists (if any still exist), highlighting conservative issues, not by liberals spewing hate, bile, and negativity. For the record, Fox News and the National Review should not host Democrat debates either. Not that Democrats would ever consider Fox hosting a debate.
