Week in Review: The Hunt for the Murdaugh Murder Weapons

Investigators and prosecutors have launched a new investigation into what may have happened to the guns used in South Carolina’s ‘Crime of the Century.’

This week’s big news involved explosive new developments in the ‘Murdaugh Murders‘ crime and corruption saga – notably our bombshell report that state investigators and prosecutors had launched a new investigation into what happened to the weapons used in South Carolina’s ‘Crime of the Century’ five years ago.

As FITSNews exclusively reported on Friday (September 25, 2026), agents of the S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and prosecutors affiliated with the statewide grand jury are probing reports that at least one Lowcountry law enforcement official assisted accused killer Alex Murdaugh in disposing of the weapons used in the double homicide of his wife and younger son.

Research director Jenn Wood and I explored this bombshell development – and its implications for Murdaugh’s upcoming retrial. We also discussed reports that Murdaugh’s attorneys have made significant progress linking the June 2021 murders of Maggie Murdaugh and Paul Murdaugh to a Lowcountry gang.

All of these seismic revelations are taking place ahead of Murdaugh’s scheduled April 2027 retrial in Sumter, S.C. – which is clearly going to be a vastly different proceeding than the one held in Walterboro, S.C. four years ago.

Worth noting: just hours after our report was published, S.C. circuit court judge Debra McCaslin – who is presiding over Murdaugh’s retrial – scheduled a new hearing in the case for the middle of October.

Previously, lawyers were not scheduled to appear before McCaslin until the middle of November.

In our second segment, chief photog and lead investigative reporter Andrew Fancher detailed his latest ‘Badges Gone Bad’ series related to the arrest of two Upstate law enforcement officers. Andy and I also discussed the selective transparency accompanying the incident.

Additionally, Andy previewed his upcoming reporting on files released from the substantially less-than-aggressive state and federal investigations of former Spartanburg County sheriff Chuck Wright.

Yes, this is what I just posted:
This was posted on your WIR and revalidates my comments on this story, specially the earliest and latest ones:
At minute 22:44, Jen Wood, are you insulting me, ignoring me, or giving me a back-handed compliment? The first comment on your “Bombshell” revelation of the grand jury investigation was that I had just scooped you by checking the Colleton County Public Index and found that Judge McCaslin had already scheduled a hearing for 16 October 2026.
I hope you don’t delete that or this or both or all comment(s) of mine.
That said, I am glad you are finally acknowledging that knowing when the phones stopped being used by the owners is NOT knowing when the shootings happened.
The Prosecution’s theory, when examined closely, squeezes everything in EXACTLY the 8 seconds (that’s seconds NOT minutes) between Maggie’s reading John Marvin’s and Lynn G’s texts at 8:49:27 on her phone and arrival on Paul phone at 8:49:35 from Rogan Gibson of a text which remained unread by Paul.
Does that make sense to anyone without a SubZeroIQ?

Here is another brilliant question for the Prosecution and for Jen Wood:
Is there any evidence that anyone else called Paul after 8:49:35 pm on 7 June 2021?
You see: the Prosecution ONLY basis for pretending that Paul was shot immediately after he read Meagan Kimbrell’s texts at 8:48:56 on 7 June 2021 is that Paul did not read Rogan Gibson’s texts or answer his one call after that.
Well, we know that Paul had swollen feet and finally agreed, even asked, to see a doctor.
We also know that nothing was actually wrong with Cash, the dog’s tail. It has either been an optical illusion on Paul’s part or whatever “pone” or “nod” or insect bite on Cash’s tail had subsided.
Paul’s battery was dying and it was getting dark and rainy.
As I previously explained, it is more likely than not that Paul was worried about his own health and annoyed with Rogan Gibson and his dog, which dog Paul had to lock back in its kennel. That takes time and two hands. So, Paul locked his phone and put it in his pocket. Paul had gone to the kennels for specific purposes, not to spend time on the phone in the hot and smelly kennels, which calls, if needed, could have been made from the air-conditioned house.
Of course Paul and Maggie were shot that night; but when?
If no other call or text came to Paul’s phone before Alex left for Almeda, the Prosecution’s “logic” about the time of shooting becomes as stupid as its motive for murder.

Please let through here this reply of mine to another commenter on your WIR:
? @JoTheEx-expat , ask not “what’s wrong with” Marie Assa’ad-Faltas, ask what’s wrong with a system which cannot admit it gets wrong all too often and never examines the reasons for its errors.
Ask what’s wrong with a mother who, after two autopsies at public expense and after her own volunteer experts and lawyers told her and publicly admitted there is no evidence Stephen was intentionally killed or that Buster had anything to do with Stephen’s death, refuses to accept that “her son” was prostituting himself by nude dancing and advertising on social media for one-night stands, all with the mother’s blithe indifference during the son’s “secretive” life but sanctimonious fury and fake insistence that some rich person killed him to cover up something after that son’s death by what is most likely a suicide by walking into incoming traffic.
I am indignant, not mad, at this so-called mother for trivializing those who do the very hard work of getting admitted to medical school, graduating from it, taking and passing the relevant boards, and doing the very demanding specialty residencies thereafter and taking and passing more relevant boards. That “mother” trivialized the real doctors by defaming the pathologist who did the first autopsy which was later 100% confirmed by the second autopsy. That “mother” trivialized real doctors by announcing from the State Capitol Grounds that “her son” was buried in a white coat because “he was on his way to be a doctor” when that “mother” knew that son was cutting AND FAILING his middling nursing school classes to go partying and/or prostituting himself.
I am always indignant at lies and hypocrisy.
I am indignant “that attorneys made money” by instigating, advising, and participating in, false criminal proceedings against the innocent to gain unfair advantage in civil litigation against the innocent, which is against established ethics for lawyers.
I am indignant at “journalists” building media companies on the literal blood of victims.
“Seriously,” what is wrong with YOU for glorifying that “mother,” those “lawyers,” and those “journalists”?

Same prejudicial pre-retrial publicity goes on EXACTLY as did the prejudicial pre-first-trial publicity. But my capacity to refute all of them is limited. See this most recent reply of mine:
? @AlwaysAubreeLayn , you are repeating rumors which are REFUTED by the official trial transcripts of testimony. I will not waste more time on replying to you. If you have court TRANSCRIPTS of what Maggie’s sisters and Paul’s friends supposedly “said so,” copy and paste them citing page and line as I did, or hold your peace.
BTW, the so-called “blood spatter on his clothes” was PROVEN, and admitted by the Prosecution, to be a mistake if not an outright lie. Why are you repeating admitted lies as if they were truth? Why?
