In 2024, Sustain SC set a clear, ambitious course for the organization – and the Palmetto State – grounded in strengthening South Carolina’s economy, resource stewardship and protecting our outdoors and agrarian heritage.
And over the past year, that work has delivered.
This new direction now shapes every major initiative we take on, from convening experts through our Energy Roundtable Series to working with conservation experts to protect South Carolina’s natural resources. Together, these efforts advance a single goal: ensuring South Carolina remains competitive in a rapidly changing economy.
Our Land and Water Action Platform is proof of that success. To date, the program has supported 12 projects across 11 counties, helping to protect more than 13,000 acres of working lands and watersheds in South Carolina. More than $250,000 has been invested in conservation efforts through partnerships with non-profits and land trusts across the state. Those funds come directly from South Carolina businesses that understand protecting natural assets also protects our economic future.
Our 2025 statewide survey reinforced that message. When we asked conservative voters about what mattered most to them, the answer was clear: people want balance. 81.4 percent of respondents supported land conservation and 81.9 percent said water-use management should be balanced between economic and recreational needs. South Carolinians want strong, smart and strategic growth – and Sustain SC is helping make it happen.

Our work is defined by a practical approach that relies on strong partnerships to deliver results. We’ve been proud to partner with Conservatives for Clean Energy and other industry leaders to promote an energy strategy that recognizes a reliable, clean energy supply as the foundation of a thriving economy. Whether it’s advancing innovation in energy production or improving grid reliability, we work to ensure South Carolina remains open for business and positioned to grow.
Sustain SC’s commitment to conservation is rooted in that same philosophy. That’s why we’ve been proud to support Governor Henry McMaster’s vision to conserve ten million acres across South Carolina, a goal that recognizes how protecting land and water fuels long-term prosperity. Sustain SC is helping carry that momentum forward, advancing practical partnerships that keep South Carolina growing while protecting the resources that make that growth possible.
Growth may be inevitable, but how we grow matters. Preserving the lands and waters that sustain South Carolina’s sporting heritage and farming industry also protects our way of life. These landscapes are more than part of our culture – they’re the backbone of what makes the Palmetto State attractive for economic development. Sustain SC works to ensure growth protects the assets that make South Carolina unique, so future generations can share in the same opportunities and traditions that make our state the kind of place people want to call home.
Over the last year, private companies have announced billions in new investment in advanced manufacturing, energy storage and technology – sectors that create long-term, high-quality jobs. South Carolina’s future depends on maintaining that momentum. We must continue to foster innovation, strengthen infrastructure and protect the natural assets that make this state resilient, competitive and built for lasting prosperity.
