#GamecockFB: Quick Hits

News and notes from the Gamecock football program …

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel of the University of South Carolina football team has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC)’s special teams player of the week for the second week in a row.

Samuel, a 6-0, 215-pound native of Inman, S.C., returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown during the Gamecocks 31-13 victory over SEC East rival Missouri last week.  The previous week, Samuel returned the season’s opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown against NC State.

The junior speedster also scored on a 25-yard rushing touchdown against the Tigers – and hauled in a pair of touchdown receptions the previous week against the Wolfpack.

Is anybody going to kick to him again?  We’d advise against it …

Kickoff time has officially been set for South Carolina’s September 23 matchup against Louisiana Tech.  The Gamecocks (2-0, 1-0 SEC) and the Bulldogs (1-1, 0-0 Conference USA) will play at 3:30 p.m. EDT with the SEC Network televising the action.

Louisiana Tech made national news last week when its offense lost 87 yards in one play against Mississippi State – a second-and-goal from the MSU six-yard-line.
