STATUS QUO CASH BONANZA!

Several of the Palmetto State’s top political players are hosting a fundraiser for uber-liberal S.C. Senate president Hugh Leatherman at a ritzy downtown Columbia, S.C. law firm later this month.

Among those donating and raising big sweet dollars on behalf of the corrupt politician?  Businessman Bill Stern, former S.C. Speaker of the House/ U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins, former Democratic governor/ U.S. education superintendent Dick Riley and Georgia sod magnate Jim Roquemore.

The big money push comes as Leatherman is facing his first contested political race in more than a decade.

Here’s the invitation …

Leatherman is being targeted by a political action committee supporting the agenda of S.C. governor Nikki Haley – and by other groups.  Can they unseat him?

Probably not … our sources say polling in this rural Senate district (map here) shows Leatherman well ahead of his closet competitor, former Florence County “Republican” party chairman Richard Skipper.

He’s also got nearly $700,000 in the bank account of his campaign organization – a number we suspect will climb after next week’s event.

First elected in 1980 as a Democrat, Leatherman switched parties and later became chairman of the Senate’s powerful finance committee.  In 2014 he became president of the Senate.

Hands down the most powerful elected official in the state, he’s ruled with ruthless self-interest … although in recent months his once vice-like grip has loosened ever-so-slightly.
