“THE AMERICAN PEOPLE CAN HANDLE IT …”

|| By RICK MANNING || Easter has come and gone, Christ has risen, but the unrepentant hearts in politics seem to be digging deeper into the name-calling that has come to characterize our American political system.

Quite simply, I am sick of it.

Within the past seven days Muslim terrorists have killed 28 in Brussels, Belgium, and on Easter set off a bomb killing more than 70 at a Christian event in Pakistan.  The bomb was placed in a location designed to kill and maim the most children possible, all because they were Christian.  Yet, Republicans who wish to run our nation are consumed with making spurious charges about one of the candidate’s sex life, rather than talk to the nation about the existential threats to our freedom that are very real.

It drives me nuts, and is a sign of the new TMZ celebrity culture that is driving our nation’s political discourse. Politicians reflect those that they seek to elect, and the Kardashian culture has now fully infected the political system. It isn’t Donald Trump’s fault that he has reporters clinging to his every 140 character tweet, trying to decipher what he means or using the short bursts to mock him, all the while propelling his campaign forward. It is the fault of the reporters who reward brashness over real policy. However trivial the message, reporters turn it into easy copy and Trump gets more free media.

To Trump’s credit, he has opened a new line of thinking about what the U.S. military responsibility should be in the modern world simply by questioning whether the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) still makes sense is today’s world.

This provocative national defense reassessment is born in both the reality of our nation’s need to spend tax dollars in the wisest way possible and an honest questioning of whether the countries in NATO are best suited to fighting the war on terror.

Ted Cruz for his part, has courageously put together a brilliant team of foreign policy advisors who have been at the forefront in alerting the world to the existential threat that Islam’s Sharia Law legal system poses to liberal societies.

Cruz has continuously argued that America must re-engage the world and lead rather than withdrawing and hoping problems don’t find their way to our shores.

At a time when national security is intertwined with our nation’s immigration policies, there needs to be a national debate over what the next decade of American security policy should be.  The GOP is putting forward two men with visions for this future.

While the Democrats in the race embrace the failed European model of Muslim immigration and assimilation, the
Republicans are striving for something different.  Rather than waste our time in prurient discussions of hand sizes, the campaigns need to force these issues into the media.

The American public can take it.  The American people know that our nation cannot be restored if current immigration and national defense policies are not radically changed.  It is time to have that adult discussion about what America’s role in the world should be.

Trump began the discussion on illegal immigration and tied it to terrorism. Why he will be nominee. We used to have MSM that held a secular world view.Today we have a new, young MSM that has been brainwashed at state controlled universities that God doesn’t exist or Biblical Christians are evil.Seeing Christians slaughtered doesn’t move their souls as most of them don’t have one.The ones that do sell it in the name of political correctness and a paycheck.

Want that an AME affiliated church? I believe FaraCon speaks to those churches demanding the American Flag come down?

What does Farrakhan have to do with an AME church being shot up by a white supremacist lunatic? He’s a Muslim, why would he speak for Christian churches?

Deflection is a sign of inability to make a counterpoint, but your writing is a sign of inability to think.

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said Wednesday that the American flag should be taken down instead of the Confederate flag.

The activist made his comments at Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, D.C., just one week after nine black individuals were killed at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina. Dylann Roof, 21, was arrested less than 24 hours after the massacre in connection with the massacre.

Guest was correct.

Flip March 28, 2016 at 12:21 pm

Pogo, you can comment as different names but it doesn’t change who you are.

Please link us to where anyone at the AME church in Charleston asked for the American flag to be taken down.

Trumpism March 28, 2016 at 12:23 pm

Why would the AME church allow a radical Muslim that hates America to speak and demand the American Flag be removed.

Thank you Guest and ed.Obama started all of this with his divisive hate.

Flip March 28, 2016 at 12:25 pm

The AME church in Charleston did not invite Farrakhan to speak.

The Christian people at that church invited Roof into their church to pray with him. They were so kind that he almost didn’t go through with the attack. Even after his horrible crime the people of the church chose to forgive him.

Pogo, you could really learn something from the wonderful Christians of that church. That is the power of Christ. I hope you find Him one day.

Trumpism March 28, 2016 at 12:30 pm

I have to tell ya that church showed real faith and courage.Shame the governor didn’t.

Please, enlighten us on the probabilities associated with being killed by a Muslim vs being killed by a right-wing lunatic.

The probabilities of either are incredibly low. That being said, there are many, many more radicalized Muslims than right wing lunatics.

Tea Party rally attendees /= right wing lunatic murderers.

Terry March 28, 2016 at 4:01 pm

You added the murderers. I never said they were murderers.

That said, Inside the US, the odds of being killed by a right wing lunatic is probably a good bit higher than the odds of being killed by an ISIS fighter.

From 2004 to 2014 303 Americans were killed by terrorists, world wide. I think we can increase that by about 10 in 2015, for a total of 313, but not all from ISIS.

In the meantime during the same time period 320,000 people were killed by gun violence in the US. Roof killed almost as many Americans last year as ISIS. Children under the age of 5 using unprotected guns killed more Americans last year than ISIS.

Just Me March 28, 2016 at 9:25 pm

Whoa! Wait a minute! 320,000 people killed by gun violence is all because of people on the right? Hmmm. Typical left wing screed. Making an obviously bogus accusation with no facts. You must be a reporter in the MSM.

10,000 people died of Ebola in 2015.
Muslim Islamists killed 28,000 in 50 different countries and injured another 26,000 in 2015.

Trump and Cruz do a pretty good stand up gig, but if you are looking for serious debates between the two on important issues like this, you are going to have a bad time. One wants to patrol Muslim neighborhoods, which is a few steps away from making them wear crescent moon patches or putting them in camps, but the other wants to categorically stop all Muslims from entering the country, even though the San Bernardino shooter was born in Chicago.

You will find no answers to stopping extremist Muslims in the GOP. Other than the above their only “solution” is to sink another trillion in the hole by going to war and creating what will become the next Al Qaeda, the next ISIS…

Manning – here’s your adult conversation. We assimilate Muslims into our society from all over the world. From the Middle East, India, southeast Asia, Bosnia, Albania, Turkey. See, in America you are free to take personal initiative to improve your life. That’s what immigrants to America do. So they feel welcome, go about improving their lives, and don’t get all radicalized. In Belgium and France they are pushed to the edge of society, so you get what we had here last week. Now I don’t like it any more than you do.

As for San Bernardino – that was a guy willing to do anything for the slit tail.

Trumpism March 28, 2016 at 12:42 pm

England, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands – in every European country with a large Muslim immigrant population, the story is the same: Islamic supremacists refuse to assimilate into the Western melting pot; instead they carve out a foothold in a neighborhood, and then, through intimidation or outright violence, push out the infidels whose failed secular values are no longer acceptable. Even public services such as police, firefighters and ambulances are often driven out of such neighborhoods with stones, bottles, or bullets. Lacking the political and cultural will to assert control in areas that in some cases have become urban war zones, the authorities have simply retreated and abandoned them.

Same thing is happening here and we will be Europe in 20 years if we don’t keep them out.

Tony Blair has warned that ‘flabby liberalism’ is helping terrorists because Britain’s elite feel too ‘guilty’ to tackle the spread of extremism.

The former Labour prime minister said many in politics are now ‘unwilling to take people on’, fearing that they will be seen as intolerant of other cultures.

Speaking of Dearborn….(and to kinda/sorta reinforce what you are saying…)
My local state congressman (Doug Brannon – who I voted for last time) and I had a conversation about a month ago about whatever the fuck “Keep the ragheads out” resolution of the week was down at the state house of the Great State of South Carolina. He voted for it (whatever it was at the time). When I asked him why he said it was because of all the shit going on in Dearborn where the ragheads were running everything, raghead law,…… you know, the whole Fox BS line……and he didn’t want that happening in Ser Kackalacky and DEFINATELY NOT in northern Spartanburg County…….
I like Doug and we have talked on several occasions but I told him I thought he voted that way because he might have some competition in the upcoming political season. he said that wasn’t the case.
So after I finished talking to him I did some actual no BS personal research……
******I got on my “puter” and searched “Dearborn supermarkets” & contacted the Kroger store on Michigan Ave. in Dearborn and learned that the going price for pork shoulder was around $1.79/pound and readily available (I didn’t want to bother the store butcher about the price of pork chops, bacon, etc but I’m sure the price is fair and it sure the fuck ain’t banned. Next I searched “Dearborn bars/taverns” and there’s too many to list here. Ditto for “Gentlemen’s clubs”===yep, at least 6 or more ‘titty bars” to choose from. Lastly, I clicked on the City of Dearborn official website….zereoed in on the list of city council…not a single Arab name on the list of city councilmen/women, in fact one of the councilmen’s last name is ABRAHAM…what you wanna bet that guy’s Jewish????? Then I called the council secretary and asked about all the shit about ragheads running Dearborn. She was polite and professional but let me know in no uncertain terms that all that stuff on FOX news and talk radio is just plain BS.*****
if anyone does not believe me do it yourselves (but I’d lay off calling the poor city council secretary…the poor woman’s tired of having to explain that ragheads ain’t running Dearborn)
No doubt she does have more work to do actually helping run the good city of Dearborn.
Can’t say that I blame her one bit……………..
Oh, and Rep. Brannon if you are reading this, you know where to contact me……I’m probably still gonna vote for ya but quit worrying about the Tea Baggers. You won the last time because you had to depend on independents like me to get you over the hump when you were in that run off election….
Regards, Sparklecity

Unfortunately, The Republican candidates are now grounded in a debate more centered around winning the battle over minor and personal differences. They have to, at this point, become a more magnanimous about personal trivialities and start concentrating on what is good for this country, especially in the arena of foreign affairs. Just start having a debate on what should be the response to foreign terror and mass immigration originating from factions in the Middle East, what our resource should be, what is the future of NATO.
Of course, the Republicans are in the middle of a hot, three person race for the nomination and that has to play out. The quicker the candidates stop sniping about large hands, small peckers, and who is getting the most strange poontang, and get to discussing the security of this country, the more Presidential they will look. In that regard, just stay off the dance floor, no Greek columns, no mom jeans, etc…

Trump called this back in January.

Asked by the Fox Business Network anchor Maria Bartiromo about the feasibility of his proposal to bar foreign Muslims from entering the United States, Mr. Trump argued that Belgium and France had been blighted by the failure of Muslims in these countries to integrate.

“There is something going on, Maria,” he said. “Go to Brussels. Go to Paris. Go to different places. There is something going on and it’s not good, where they want Shariah law, where they want this, where they want things that — you know, there has to be some assimilation. There is no assimilation. There is something bad going on.”

Yeah ,unlike the current administration he has the foresight to see that these people don’t integrate very well into their host countries. Given a large portion of the Muslim’s inability accept their new country and accept the changes in lifestyles, they have isolated themselves into their own enclaves, refusing to change. And many accept, while they don’t participate, the extreme members of their society in the new countries. Most of them would probably want Sharia law to prevail in their new host country.
I am all for helping them out in the Middle East, ie, food and shelter to preclude a mass migration to Western countries.
