Chicagoland (Political) Thuggery Masks Far Left’s Fear

There are two competing narratives coming from the debacle that was GOP frontrunner Donald Trump‘s visit to Chicago on Friday evening – in which liberal activists stormed an arena where Trump was scheduled to speech and clashed (at times violently) with his supporters and with police.

The ensuing chaos prompted Trump to cancel his event.

The first narrative?  That Trump had this coming … that he has been egging on protesters for months and finally got what he deserved.  This view is being advanced (shocker) by the liberal Washington Post, which gleefully rejoiced in Trump’s rude reception in the windy city.

“For months, Trump has been able to control – and often use to his advantage – the hundreds of protesters who show up to his rallies to oppose rhetoric they consider divisive, racist and hateful,” reporter Jenna Johnson noted.  “In the past two weeks, these interruptions have increasingly eaten away at Trump’s speaking time and have often become violent, with police in North Carolina charging a Trump supporter who punched a protester at a rally on Wednesday.”

The second narrative being advanced is that the liberal activist horde – which included avowed communist and former domestic terrorist Bill Ayers – denied Trump his First Amendment rights.

“Liberals love the first amendment until you say something they don’t agree with,” Trump’s son tweeted in the aftermath of the melee.

Trump himself also accused his antagonists of “shutting down the First Amendment.”

Neither side is 100 percent right, in our opinion … although it was interesting to read Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mark Brown‘s take on the incident.

“To be clear, I’m glad people came out to protest Trump. I was hoping for it,” Brown wrote.  “But as I watched an elderly man with a walker trying in vain to return to his car because idiots were running wild through the parking garage where many of Trump’s fans parked their cars, I was ashamed.”

Brown went on to say that while he believes Trump supporters are misguided “they weren’t the ugly ones on this night.”

“Many of those who were celebrating on the arena floor were shouting ‘Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!’ and taunting Trump’s supporters as they tore up Trump signs,” Brown continued.

Classy …

Here’s our takeaway from the evening: It’s fear, pure and simple.  The effort to silence Trump (which isn’t confined to the far left, remember) is really an effort to silence certain views that striking chords across broad swaths of the country.  In fact one of the agitators even carried a sign which read “The Silent Majority Should Stay Silent.”

What better expression of the far left’s modus operandi could there be?

These liberal hooligans aren’t attempting to forcibly disrupt rallies for establishment “Republican” Marco Rubio because let’s face it: He’s not saying anything substantive or original.

“A new American century?”

Blah, blah, blah …

Trump, on the other hand, is taking a sledgehammer to the politically correct establishment.  And whether you agree 100 percent with everything he is saying, there can be no denying he’s sparked a debate that America desperately needed to have.

A debate the far left clearly doesn’t want …

There’s a hashtag trending on Twitter right now: #ChicagoStoppedTrump.  That’s not what Chicago did, though. Far from stopping him, the anti-Trump agitators telegraphed liberal America’s pervasive fear of the populist wave he is riding.

Which is not all that dissimilar to the pervasive fear the “Republican” establishment has …

I disagree, republicans are toast. I can’t believe anything they say. Hillary will use executive orders as Obama did and continue our recovery from the Bush years.

Fuck that lying draft avoiding con artist Donald Trump.
Eat the peanuts out of his shit all you want.
That poor excuse for dog shit ain’t nothing but a Mussolini clone.
Trump saying he can unite America is like saying a 5 dollar whore don’t give blow jobs…..In a fucking pig’s eye!!!!!
I’m voting either Constitutionalist or Green party in November…..I ain’t voting for Bernie/Hillary and sure the fuck ain’t voting for that lying fake assed Trump that’s fer sure
I was around in 1968 during the Chicago riots and I don’t blame Trump opponents one damn bit for showing what a lying SOB paper tiger Trump really is………
“I wish I could punch that protester in the mouth” = Donald Trump
“If you see someone throwing a tomato, beat the shit out of them, I’ll pay your legal fees” = Donald Trump
What the fuck do you expect when a phoney like Trump says shit like that and someone calls his bluff???
You ain’t seen nothing yet and it couldn’t happen to a more deserving SOB than Donald Trump………………….

CorruptionInColumbia March 12, 2016 at 10:43 pm

My, something about The Donald has a way of bringing out the beast in you!

I have to give you credit, at least for not supporting a Clinton if you’re going to damn Trump on his military service or lack thereof.

That said, where is the vitriol for 0bama’s numerous “draft dodger” friends and mentors, even terrorist bombers of a former and current day?

Personally, I don’t give a rip about their lack of service during that era. While a hell of a lot of good, brave, patriotic, men and even women did what they felt was their duty to their country and went, making great sacrifices to include the ultimate, I think history now shows that this war was pointless, evil, and should not have involved us. As with every major conflict since WWII that our government had chosen to involve us in, it refused to let the brave men and women making the sacrifices win it.

My father served in the US Navy on the carrier Randolph. He saw action but nothing our media knew about or reported on in those days. As such, he had very strong opinions about draft dodgers and the “duty” of anyone to serve their country, as most back then honestly believed they were doing. Had I not been so lucky that the war and the draft ended when it did, I likely would have also served, buying into those same beliefs. Thankfully, I did not.

Today, with the 20-20 vision of hindsight, I think those brave men were set up by our government to take falls, lots of falls for the MIC and other evil entities. This had nothing to do with “fighting for our country”, as those good men were told.

I now truly believe the draft to be immoral and wrong, unless our country is facing imminent attack on our own soil. Under any other circumstances, it is involuntary servitude and wrong. Given the shameful history our government has of experimenting on our troops, exposing them to hazardous substances and denying it, and the like, I do not blame anyone for failure to serve.

I also respect the right of those valiant souls who did serve to look upon those who did not with disdain. This includes you.

I personally now believe that a lot who did not submit to the draft may have seen through the bullshit and in fact, might have been visionaries. Some were, no doubt, just cowards.

If this country were under genuine unjustified attack on our soil I would gladly fight for it. Under those circumstances, I would deem anyone refusing, a coward.

sparklecity March 12, 2016 at 11:50 pm

Same old “coulda….,shoulda….., woulda served if I was called upon” save that shit for someone else. I volunteered during the draft and served 3 years active duty (1971-1974 as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and then joined the reserves in 1988 and served another 22 years and am now retired but not from my civilian job). The most terrrified I ever was was during the Yom Kippur War and everybody in my unit (draftees and volunteers alike) pulled together and made our Division proud. Trump would have pissed himself. What gets my goat is assholes like Trump spouting off patriotic shit but when it was their turn they avoided it…fuck that shit and no matter of rationalization you try will change my mind about that. I have no problem with anyone who dodged the draft but don’t spout off jingoistic BS like your boy Trump

Ever since I was a kid I’ve had nothing but loathing for turds like Trump. Nothing pleased me better than beating some loudmouthed braggard on the sports field or any other type of competition and taking the wind out of their sails

I can’t stand bullshit phoneys. I’ve never liked Trump since I first learned of him. I’ve never watched any of his or other “reality’ shows because they are an insult to intelligence and it is a sad commentary to know that so many pitiful people watch that shit for no other reason than it is visual opium.

I don’t like Trump’s fucking mouth, his looks or his mannerisms and never will and it ain’t like the old Howard Cosell days when so many loved to “hate” Cosell. When I see that lying SOB on TV I change the channel in a flash.

Just look at the old newsreels of Mussolini..way before I ever knew anything about Trump whenever I saw one of those old news reels of Mussolini something in my psyche made want to rail against every thing turds like him and now Trump personify.

There’s an old saying among conmen: “You can only con someone who wants to be conned” Looks like you and so many others are prime targets for the con of the millennium!!!!

Plain and simple: I don’t like that motherfucker on so many levels …OK?????

CorruptionInColumbia March 13, 2016 at 3:49 am

I respect your opinion, but do disagree, SparkleCity.

The con men are those such as Cruz, Rubio, Hitlery, and others who are taking their orders from the same globalist scum as every President we’ve had since Reagan left office, maybe longer. Trump may turn out to be one of them, but given the level of panic on their part to push him out, he doesn’t appear to be one of their own.

sparklecity March 13, 2016 at 11:56 am

No doubt Trump’s not one of “their own”
Nobody else in either political party running for president has asperations of becoming an American version of Mussolini……

Squishy123 March 13, 2016 at 9:05 pm

Let’s do some math here, let’s say you were 18 years old in 1971, so you “joining the reserves” in 1988 would put you at about 35 years old… I bet you were a welcome sight for the Reserves… I mean being out of the military for 14 years and then coming back to drink coffee and play cards for the next 22 years. All the action you talked about was in your service between 1971 and 1974.

Trump will be the next President of this country, like it or not. Maybe you can take your participation ribbons from your Reserves stint and toss them on the Statehouse grounds like John Kerry.

Squishy123 March 13, 2016 at 9:18 pm

Okay sparklecity you’re going to have to fill in some blanks here. From what I’ve read about the Yom Kippur War and the 82nd Airborne all I’m seeing is that they were put “on alert”. Are you saying you were terrified about sitting in a hanger somewhere out of harms way? Because it sure sounds from what I’m reading that you weren’t boots on the ground being shot at. Maybe you could talk to a Vietnam vet and find out what real terror is like.

Squishy123 March 13, 2016 at 9:42 pm

sparklecity, here’s one of the people you served your country for. Are you as proud of him now for charging the stage Trump was on?

Kind of bites you in the ass doesn’t it.

The right and the left are having fits that an outsider with business background ( check out all those cement contracts…) will check the books!!!! why does Europe have very good highways and bullet rapid trains??? and our highways are rotting…..All the losers are coming to the aid of Cruz, and you know why? they can ISOLATE Cruz, he is so disliked by all the congress and senate, they will ignore him…. Cruz can not take his case to the public like Trump, Trump cant speak to the so called “hoi poi” the hoi poi and the educated love Trump!. He does not dismiss the 47% of Americans as that snob of Romney did. This not anything else but a National Movement, and I for one am going home with the person that brought me to the party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Trump.

Hortance March 12, 2016 at 9:48 pm

I actually think that Cruz is consciously with the GOPe, but your observation that they’d have more control of Cruz than Trump rings true. Good post.

sparklecity March 13, 2016 at 12:05 pm

A national movement towards fascism it Trump is elected is what you mean…
It didn’t go well for the Italians and if Trump is elected the United States of America will follow suit.

The TRULY educated see Trump for what he is: an egotistical conman who thinks becoming president is the ultimate power trip followed by a mushroom cloud sometime during his imperial reign.

Squishy123 March 12, 2016 at 8:14 pm

The protesters are just coming off as thugs, which doesn’t look good for the Democrats. You don’t see Republican protesters disrupting Clinton or Sanders rallies. I can’t help but notice most of the protesters being escorted out are black, which just adds to the stereotype of how that culture lives and responds. I suspect when Trump wins the general election there will be nationwide black neighborhoods burning. The next morning they’ll be asking for federal aid to rebuild. Hopefully Trump will hold up any money long enough to make these idiots live in 3rd world conditions for years.

shifty henry March 12, 2016 at 9:01 pm

Well, relocate them to Syria and surrounding neighborhoods. The photos I’ve seen recently show me that there is a hell of a lot of room for them to live and raise hell there.

shifty henry March 12, 2016 at 9:07 pm

Doubtful Hilliary or Sanders would ever do that, it’s a good percentage of their voting base.

Bible Thumper March 12, 2016 at 8:34 pm

Of course, the protesters are wrong. The First Amendment phrase “the right of the people peaceably to assemble,” rarely gets mentioned, but the protesters were disrupting and preventing a peaceful assembly.

Having said that Trump seems to enjoy baiting his opponents. He may even believe these events are to his advantage. It doesn’t matter what Trump’s does. His supporters twist the events as if it is to his advantage or part of his cleaver strategy. They criticize his opponents actions then confess it plays into his hand and Trump ingeniously put his opponents where he wanted them.

It doesn’t matter what Trump does. In their minds it is twisted to justify their faith and support for him.

J.Smith March 12, 2016 at 8:46 pm

I was at the Trump rally today in Dayton,Ohio.Arrived at 4:00 A.M. .Trump will win in a landslide.

We were horrified at the attempt to apparently harm him today on stage. The perp has been released. If it would have been Obama on stage he would have been in prison for 10 years. You and your RINO faux Republican ilk are why Trump’s life is threatened everytime he speaks.

Why I have pursued a warrant against ‘Flip’.I Will protect my family.

Chicken Little March 14, 2016 at 12:53 am

I wouldn’t call Obama the “Great Uniter” either though.

I also seem to remember hearing those on the right declare when he was elected that the nation was doomed, yet here we are 8 years later. Sure, there’s more debt and nothing much has been solved- but the nation remains. It’ll be the same with Trump if he’s elected.

I’ve always said the quickest way for a black man to have his race taken away from him is to disagree with a liberal. Unfortunately, I’ve had to experience this done to my own family members. I can only shake my head when dummies throw out the word racist like candy at a Christmas parade and yet expect an entire race to be a monolith that toes the plantation line.

Nat March 13, 2016 at 2:37 pm

Yeah right. It is a fake story from a fake news site. Snopes-

There was no truth to this story, however. The Christian Times Newspaper is not a legitimate source of news, but rather a site that mixes real political news items — most of which have little or nothing to do with the subject of Christianity — with clickbait fake news items (with the “Black Trump Supporter Shot and Killed by Chicago Protesters” story being one of the latter category).

CorruptionInColumbia March 13, 2016 at 7:54 pm

Okay, you are correct, Nat! Sorry about this one guys, but it does appear to be fake. This was a shitty thing (for that site) to do, but I’m glad no such person apparently was murdered.

Thanks for catching that and the correction, Nat!

Time for a refresher course on the First Amendment. It does not apply to actions of private individuals protesting or preventing others from speaking. It applies only to governmental suppression of speech or press.

Never seen anything like this. They know Trump will win general election in a landslide and the world, Democrat Communist Party and Republican establishment forces are joining forces to defeat him.

Just Me March 16, 2016 at 7:57 am

I don’t see that happening. Trump is going to get ripped to shreds by Hillary’s supporters and the press. There is so much baggage there for them to unpack for all to see that it will be amazing. But then Hillary has probably the same amount of baggage for Trump to exploit. But the news papers won’t be helping Trump because we know they are in the tank for Hillary or had better be. :)

So if Trump and Hillary end up being the nominated candidates it is going to be the nastiest campaign anyone could imagine.

You can turn on NoScript but then it won’t load Disqus.

This brutish activity may play well in Chicago, but Trump wasn’t going to win in Chicago anyway. The rest of the country is appalled.

Trump is not playing the game by the rules. Anyone that does will not create change. Had he been a “look like all the other candidates” type he would been out of the race months ago.

Trump is a moderate. Those on the right know that but they are looking for another way to find saneness in insane DC. Maybe the left ought to look at it the same way.

Is 4 years too much to ask so that we get off the corporate, special interest merry go round?

CharlieChan March 14, 2016 at 10:09 am

The narrative you conveniently leave out is Trumps “encouragement” of the violence. That’s the main point of every article I’ve read about it, and you don’t mention that at all. I guess you pick and choose what you want to highlight about the media and it’s narratives. Hmmm… i think that’s called creating a false narrative. Trump has sparked nothing but base prejudice and violence. He’s successfully appealed to the greater devils of our nature, which has nothing to do with a “national debate” and everything to do with using hatred to motivate voters. That’s not leadership. Defending him undermines any credibility for understanding politics you might have.
