U.S. Senator Ted Cruz is forgoing his final-day of campaigning in early-voting South Carolina to attend the funeral of Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia in Washington, D.C.
But Cruz will return to the Palmetto State on Saturday evening to watch the “First in the South” votes roll in …
Cruz and his supporters crew will gather at the Moore Building on the South Carolina State Fairgrounds (1200 Rosewood Drive) in Columbia, S.C. beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST.
Cruz narrowly edged GOP frontrunner Donald Trump in Iowa two-and-a-half weeks ago and scored a better-than-expected third-place finish in New Hampshire ten days ago. But he’s in a dogfight in South Carolina against U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida – who was already on the verge of overtaking him for second place earlier this week prior to receiving the endorsement of S.C. governor Nikki Haley.
Can Cruz hold off Rubio? We’re about to find out …
