Donald Trump Wants Middle Class Tax Relief

… AND DOESN’T MIND MAKING THE “ONE PERCENT” PAY FOR IT

|| By FITSNEWS || Billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump once again threw the political establishment a curveball – telling Bloomberg he wasn’t opposed to raising taxes on wealthy Americans (including himself) in an effort to deliver tax relief to the country’s shrinking middle class.

“I would change it. I would simplify it,” Trump said of the current labyrinthine, discriminatory, wealth-gap perpetuating U.S. tax code.

How progressive, right?

“I would take carried interest out, and I would let people making hundreds of millions of dollars-a-year pay some tax, because right now they are paying very little tax and I think it’s outrageous,” Trump said.

“I want to lower taxes for the middle class,” he added.

Asked specifically if that meant paying more taxes himself, Trump said “yes” – it did.

“That’s right. That’s right. I’m OK with it,” he said.  “You’ve seen my statements, I do very well, I don’t mind paying some taxes. The middle class is getting clobbered in this country. You know the middle class built this country, not the hedge fund guys, but I know people in hedge funds that pay almost nothing and it’s ridiculous, OK?”

Trump has yet to release his tax proposals, although his statements to Bloomberg provide some broad strokes – and some surprising ones, at that.

Obviously the devil will be in the details, but as Trump demonstrated earlier this month in rolling out his sweeping immigration plan – he’s got no problem going big, going bold and getting specific (including outlining how he intends to pay for his ideas).

So will his plan be a net tax cut (i.e. reducing the nation’s tax burden)?  Or will it be revenue-neutral (i.e. shifting the existing tax burden)?

This website has never seen the benefit of “revenue neutrality,” but we’d be hard pressed to oppose a plan which compels wealthier Americans – including Trump – to pay an amount consistent with what middle class income earners shell out each year.

Such a shift would empower the consumer economy … creating jobs, elevating income levels and stimulating capital investment.

Politically speaking, raising taxes on the “one percent” as part of an effort to subsidize middle class tax relief would dramatically boost Trump’s prospects in a hypothetical general election against a Democratic nominee – removing a frequent criticism made against “Republican” candidates (not to mention a criticism which would have stuck exceedingly well against him).

Again, though, nothing has been formally released at this point.  We have yet to see Trump’s proposal … so we’ll reserve judgment on it until we get a look at its specifics.

I think the specific thought when reading above(and I may need to re-read it), is that a tax cut for the middle class, with the “wealthy” being stripped of some tax shelters, would amount to an “increase” in taxes paid by the wealthy if they both paid the same %. I don’t know if that’s true or not…Buffet claims he paids more in % than his secretary…but I’ve seen some stats saying otherwise. It’s really hard to know.

But no question, the word “compel” is there…just like all good statists- everyone knows what it’s all about.

It sounds like Trump is talking “flat tax” type shit.

We get it, taxes are theft. Necessary evil. 99% of people come to that conclusion.

Nah, more like 90%. Then you have 5% who are libertarian nuts who think we don’t need taxes at all; and the the top 5% who think we need taxes, but that they should not have to pay them, because they are above all that and they already do enough by being rich as hell.

“Then you have 5% who are libertarian nuts who think we don’t need taxes at all”

Jack, the simple fact is the country has survived more years without an income tax that it has with one. Even when it was first instituted the first bracket inflation adjusted in 1913 was the equivalent of $500k in inflation adjusted dollars and that rate was 1%.

Revenue was collected a variety of other ways, but mostly tariffs.

We can go round and round(and have), all day…but in the end the government is a huge, wasteful, immoral monstrosity. It’s not getting fixed either- and your and my tax money feed it.

Jack August 27, 2015 at 4:18 pm

Why do Republicans focus on income taxes? Tariffs are taxes too!!!. Its just a question of who pays. And Republicans traditionally look for any system that causes the super rich to pay less and everyone else to pay more. Tariffs, like sales taxes, just pass the tax on to consumers. You know, the little people.

TroubleBaby August 27, 2015 at 4:24 pm

“Why do Republicans focus on income taxes? Tariffs are taxes too!!!”

First of all, I’m not a Republican. Second, when having an honest discussion and first admitted that taxes are theft(which should normally be uncontroversial), you then can at least say something like your the “necessary evil” comment.

For once, we can start someplace because you admit it’s “evil”(honesty) and then the question is how you minimize it if you don’t believe society can function without a government.

At least with a tarriff you are directly taxing people for their work/labor and even violating the premise of private property(like your house, you don’t pay you lose it…so do you ever really “own” it?)

They are all degrees of evil Jack…so I always hope for the least evil knowing most people don’t think society can exist without government.

Logically speaking, it would be best if there were NO theft/taxes/evil.

Jack August 27, 2015 at 4:35 pm

A place without taxes is no place that I want to live. Why don’t you move there. I would actually be in favor of letting you guys pay no taxes at all so long as the public can charges you whatever the market will bear for your use of the things taxes pay for. LIke the road in front of your house..

Oh and buy the way. Remember that taxation without representation thing that started the Revolution.? That was all about tariffs.

TroubleBaby August 27, 2015 at 4:38 pm

“A place without taxes is no place that I want to live.”

Well Jack, if you mean income taxes then you wouldn’t have wanted to live here for most of the country’s existence.

” Remember that taxation without representation thing that started the Revolution.? That was all about tariffs.”

Well Jack, it was a little more complicated than just that one issue…the 4th amendment was born out of a bigger issue at the time. Not only was it not tariffs alone, it was representation and the unilateral ability of the King to RAISE them. And for perspective Jack, no one knows the exact amount but they all agree it was far less than 10%…which is today’s perspective is a joke. Hell, give me Queen Elizabeth and a 10% tax and I’ll be jumping for joy.

Jack August 27, 2015 at 4:56 pm

As I said I will support you not paying taxes at all, so long as the government can charge you what the market will bear for the use of things taxes pay for. Because what you really want is government to pay for is what benefits you and nothing more.

TroubleBaby August 27, 2015 at 6:18 pm

“Because what you really want is government to pay for is what benefits you and nothing more.”

Dont’ tell me what I “want” Jack ass. Just read the arguments and respond. You sinking into strawmen doesn’t do yourself or those who you represent justice nor give you credibility.

What I want is freedom, most likely garnered through respect for property rights(which is not taxes) and holding to the non-aggression principle- nothing more or less.

5% Who Are Libertarians August 27, 2015 at 4:22 pm

Most libertarians are just Republicans who bitch more than the usual Republicans, but they vote Republican so their loud moth crap doesn’t amount to anything.

There are a slight minority that truly want limited government. There is an even slighter minority within that minority that want no government at all. This group either votes for third party candidates or independents that have no hope of winning, or don’t vote as a way of snubbing the system.

The only libertarians that actually do anything are the ones that run in Republican districts that they can somehow manage to win, like Ron Paul, but the number of districts where libertarians can actually win is limited, and they get ignored too.

You can ignore that 5% of the population.

TroubleBaby August 27, 2015 at 4:35 pm

That’s all fairly true, that’s why there’s a push on education…but most sometimes no matter how much you try you can’t convince people on radical paradigms.

The only thing I’ll add is there are times a vocal minority can accomplish things, like even the US’s own secession from King George that was started by a clear small minority that eventually become a larger minority(but a minority none the less).

The thing about this empire is that it will end at some time, the same way most empires end…a combination of war and overspending/bankruptcy. So the question is when will that happen and what will replace it.

To: Rubio, Bush, Walker, Kasich
From: Rainy Priebus

OK, everyone – quick – switch gears – we’re all for tax hikes on wealthy to pay for tax cuts on middle income. I know, it’s sucks. We won’t really do it, we’ll flip back later, but for right now – switch gears. Use general terms like “increase” unless pushed for specifics. Then use small amounts, like 5%, or 10%. I have it on authority Ted Cruz is going to propose a tax on Nuns too. But don’t get distracted.

Although I consider myself conservative, I am 100% in agreement with Trump here. The games played with the capital gains rate and other loopholes are just too much. There is contingent of ultra wealthy whose effective rates are simply too low in comparison with others.

I have a sneaking suspicion many conservative voters feel the same way. Would we like lower taxes in general, sure and Trump will deliver that to the middle class. But people are onto the low rates for the rich only nonsense.

Trump is already popular, is at the front of the field, and doesn’t need Fox to stay in the news.

Trump doesn’t want to raise taxes on the rich! He’s not arguing that the income tax rate for the top earners should go up. He’s arguing that the capital gains taxes should go up. I consider myself a part of the “tea party” and a conservative. I think we’re all taxed WAY more than our gov’t needs to function properly- waste, fraud, and abuse are all parts of the problem; however, money for pet projects, aid to countries that hate us, and failed social programs aren’t where the limited money we raise through taxation should go. Send the illegals home-71% receive government assistance.

Set the captial gains taxes on earnings of $500,000 or more at the same rate as whatever the income taxes for that bracket are, but you need to keep the cap gains for the “middle class” at %15 per cent or less to encourage investment and wealth accumulation.

GT, I make a very good living. I am happy. In fact am in the top 10% of earners in SC. But I am still not “rich.’ The people Trump is talking about are all those wall street types who I helped bail out after the economy crashed in 2008, and who now make hundreds of millions of dollars a year because middle class Americans saved their ass from going under.

So you’ll be voting for Trump?

I had not considered it until now.

Trump Stumps for Hillary August 27, 2015 at 4:53 pm

Might as well, a vote for Trump is a vote for Hillary!

flip August 27, 2015 at 4:57 pm

They are scared shit less of Trump! He saved the Republican Party.

Funny Way Of Saving Them August 27, 2015 at 4:59 pm

I’m going to love watching you slowly go from Trump’s #1 fan to blaming him for Republicans losing the election.

flip August 27, 2015 at 5:01 pm

Nope.He is going AROUND the establishment and moving the party RIGHT where it needs to be.

The immigration issue will be all that matters in 2016.

Right Where It Needs To Be August 27, 2015 at 5:06 pm

You’re right. The Republican party needs to balance the books. Only way to do that is to raise taxes on the rich back to what it used to be. Trump’s leading the GOP in the right direction by raising taxes on the rich. The GOP will fall apart because of it though. Good on Trump for trying to slap the stupid out of Republicans anyways.

Rocky Verdad August 27, 2015 at 6:13 pm

Dude, he just proposed a tax hike on the wealthy. That ain’t RIGHT, though it might be right.

Haunted August 27, 2015 at 4:57 pm

That’s not GT. He lives in your minds, though.

What an impression he must’ve made. No wonder they banned him.

GT’s like the anti-establishment, and the establishment just cannot llow that.

It is so obvious when GT comments, no one is fooled. Maybe he fools himself. He is that dumb.

GT is the brains and conservative soul of Fits. We thank him for his contributions.

I notice the liberal ‘regulars’ run from debate with him.

GT is the intellect on FITS August 27, 2015 at 9:28 pm

Great point. They attack GT personally (like they attack you) but they are defenseless versus the content, unless they present a bunch of provable lies.

Trump, has just announced a game changer. He is confident enough to put forth policies that do not benefit the Republican donor class. The people who expect the Republican party to work for them. Why? because he does not need their money. They cannot control him. He can propose what is best for the country, not what is best for people who pay for politicians.
This proposal is a modest, sensible proposal that benefits everyone. It begins to solve the deficit problem and the wealth disparity problem, that current tax the middle class policies have caused. This is an appeal to moderate middle class Republicans and Independents to join Trump. That is where the party needs to be.
Yes this upsets the GOP establishment, it threatens their income stream. But this also is a direct threat to Hillary. It shows the GOP is not just composed of employees of the Billionaires out to sell this country to the highest bidder.

The problem with ‘MIddle Class Tax Relief’ is that the Middle Class will have to pay for it. Rich people aren’t going to do it because they have attorneys who will get them out of that situation. Poor class won’t do it because…..they’re poor! Middle Class will always be burdened by the other two classes. Thus; the only way to provide ‘Middle Class Tax Relief’ is to exempt the Middle Class from paying taxes for the next 40 years.
