NBA Superstar Out For Season (Again)

I don’t watch the NBA. In fact the last time I watched an NBA game for more than five minutes it was 2006 – and I was high as kite in Cherry Grove, S.C. the night before my fantasy baseball draft. At least I think it was five minutes ……

I don’t watch the NBA. In fact the last time I watched an NBA game for more than five minutes it was 2006 – and I was high as kite in Cherry Grove, S.C. the night before my fantasy baseball draft.

At least I think it was five minutes … everything was moving so, so slowly.

Anyway … I don’t watch the NBA. It’s about as appealing to me as country music. Or NASCAR.

But to each their own … and it’s certainly a bummer to see the top athletes in any sport miss time due to injuries.

Take Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls – the 2008-09 Rookie of the Year who won the NBA’s MVP award in only his third season in the league in 2010-11.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Chicago native – who led the Bulls to the playoffs four years running from 2009-2012 – tore the ACL in his left knee during a first round game against the Philadelphia 76ers last April. After missing the rest of the playoffs and the entire 2012-13 season recovering from this injury, Rose returned to the Bulls’ lineup this year – averaging 15.9 points, 4.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds through his first ten games back.

Last week, though, he injured his right knee during a game against the Portland Trailblazers – and now the worst fears of Chicago fans have been confirmed: Rose is out for the remainder of the season with torn meniscus in his right knee.

“He’s in good spirits — about as well as can be expected under the circumstances,” Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters this week. “And he’s already thinking about his rehab and typical Derrick, concerned about his team (and) his teammates.”

We wish him the best …

I don’t watch much NBA anymore either. The game has become so 1 on 1 oriented over the last 15 years, it’s just not as much fun as the 80’s & 90’s. It’s gone stale.

I almost think they need something dramatic, like some major rule changes.

Maybe move the rims up another 2′ now that dunks are almost routine, and/or allow some form of limited zone defense….that type of stuff, anything really.

The “teamwork” aspect of the game is a fair cry of what it used to be 30 years ago and to me that made the dynamics much more interesting.

I still love watching college ball, but watching the pros sucks.

And make them play in bare feet……

Raise the rim to 11 feet and get rid of the 3-point line. No more playing with 5 fouls, and for God’s sake call traveling.
