On the verge of being bounced from the Top 25 for the first time in three seasons, the University of South Carolina football team’s miraculous fourth quarter/ overtime rally against No. 5 Missouri propelled the Gamecocks upward in both national polls.

South Carolina (6-2, 4-2 SEC) climbed from No. 20 to No. 14 in the Associated Press poll and from No. 20 to No. 16 in the USA Today/ Coaches’ poll on the strength of its 27-24 double overtime win over the previously undefeated Tigers (7-1, 3-1 SEC).

Steve Spurrier’s squads have now been ranked for fifty-seven consecutive weeks – the fifth-longest streak in the nation.

Meanwhile Mizzou – which still controls its own destiny in the SEC East – dropped from No. 5 to No. 10 in the AP poll and from No. 7 to No. 10 in the USA Today/ Coaches’ poll.

Alabama remained the No. 1 team in the nation in both polls, followed by Oregon, Florida State, Ohio State and Baylor.

Clemson remained at No. 9 in the AP poll following its 40-27 win over Maryland, but climbed two spots (from No. 10 to No. 8 in the coaches’ poll.

Was it really a miracle? I mean all they did was pull Dylan Thomas and put someone in who can actually play quarterback above the high school level.

The Mizzou Miracle has a nice alliterative ring to it.

The game certainly had the old Wide World Of Sports “Thrill of Victory, Agony of Defeat” vibe.

The game’s sudden, unexpected conclusion on a missed FG, that was more like a glorified PAT, seemed kind of supernatural at the time.

Sakerlina has a realistic shot at making the SECCG , which TBG wouldn’t have given a snowball’s chance in hell at halftime.

YES! Shifty has only two teams on his “preferred rooting” list – South Carolina and Alabama.
