We don’t give a rat’s ass who South Carolina “Republicans” choose as their leader. The SCGOP is no different ideologically these days than the S.C. Democratic Party, and the sooner the people of the Palmetto State figure that out the better off they’re going to be.
Of course South Carolinians aren’t exactly renowned for “figuring things out,” are they? Even when the supporting data is staring them in the face …
Anyway, in the event you do care about the leadership of the S.C. “Republican” Party, current chairman Chad Connelly will be challenged in his bid for a second two-year term.
Obviously Connelly will win. Why? Because he’s been suckling every establishment “Republican” teat he can find … most notably those belonging to U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley.
Also the guy rumored to be running against him, former Greenville County GOP chairman Sam Harms, doesn’t seem like he will amount to much of a challenger.
Who is Harms? Well, he’s famous for this 2011 incident in which he interrupted CNN’s Peter Hamby during one of the correspondent’s live, nationally televised reports.
Hmmmm … kay.
Also, we’ve learned it really doesn’t matter who holds the position of “Republican” chairman in South Carolina, because in order to keep the job you have to do what Connelly has done – which is to run around the state pretending that a bunch of corrupt, fiscally liberal anti-reformers are really good “conservatives.”
Accordingly, we’re going to sit this race out … because until “Republican” elected officials at the local, state and federal level return to the true limited government, pro-free market, pro-liberty roots they have betrayed with reckless abandon over the last few decades, the chairman of the party will remain nothing but a glorified fluffer.
