Because they keep killing off all the white people, Downton Abbey will reportedly add a black character for the show’s fourth season.
“He’s black and very handsome,” The (U.K.) Sun reports. “A real man (not a boy) with charm and charisma.”
The tabloid is quoting casting notes sent by the show’s producers for a “musician named Jack Ross,” who would be the show’s first black character. The Sun also reports Downton will be adding a new love interest for Lady Mary Crawley, a “good looking, very charismatic” middle-aged man with “a perfect cut glass accent.”
The wildly popular British period drama – which recently concluded its third season on American public broadcasting – will begin filming on location at Highclere Castle next month. British audiences will see the fourth season this fall, although American audiences will have to wait until January 2014 to see the new episodes.
Why? Because PBS believes it can better “compete” with the networks at that time.
Way to go, public broadcasting …
Anyway, the show’s season three finale drew a whopping 8.2 million American viewers earlier this month (that’s more than four times the typical public broadcasting audience for a primetime program, people).
Along with Netflix’s House of Cards and CBS’ The Good Wife , Downton is must-see drama …

The appeal of this show is that it depicts the various social stratifications of a society — when people knew their place. The French Revolution kinda’ screwed things up when it brought democracy to the great unwashed. We still need a peasant class. Most people are better governed with a boot on their neck and having to grub for meals. Less crime when people are trying to eke out a living. Nowadays its mudsill on top. Too many in the middle class and too much new money, today.
Some men need an umbrella and some men need a good sword. One supports the other. Need to bring The Help back. IMHO
