Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided the West Palm Beach, Florida office of Dr. Salomon Melgen – the traveling companion of embattled U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-New Jersey).
Meanwhile Menendez’ office – which was finally questioned by the mainstream media – emphatically denied allegations that the Senator and Melgen hired prostitutes (including one who was allegedly 16 years old at the time) to perform sex acts on them at alcohol-soaked orgies in the Dominican Republic.
“Any allegations of engaging with prostitutes are manufactured by a politically-motivated right-wing blog and are false,” Menendez’s office said.
Menendez’s office also said the Senator’s travel practices – which have come under scrutiny as a result of the solicitation allegations – were “reported appropriately.”
Melgen owes the IRS $11.1 million in back taxes from 2006-2009, incidentally.
Obviously the stakes in this underreported political drama are now incredibly high – with Menendez’ denial placing him squarely in the “all in” category.
If there’s proof he did engage in sex acts with prostitutes, his career – including his new post as chairman of the U.S. Senate’s foreign relations committee – will be over.
