Rank choice voting is an excellent innovation; and I wish politicians were honest with themselves: it has few or any disadvantages FOR THE VOTERS.
Of course, it has HUGE disadvantages for intrenched politicians of both major parties; and I do not know what the answer is short of a grass-roots ballot initiative for a state constitutional amendment to make rank choice voting the law in South Carolina.
Perhaps only if there were a ground-swell of dissatisfaction with currently-intrenched politicians of both major parties could a grass-roots movement start. But so far, the apathy of the potential voters, the 86% who do NOT turn out for primaries, is a bigger threat to democracy than the intrenched politicians.

Good points. When 51 percent of 14 percent of the voters in the primaries choose the candidates that are their only choice for all the voters in November, you have a deeply flawed system, and we are reaping the results.
Lets face it the fact is politicians do notwork for the citizens of their districts or anywhere else. They are beholden to big money, big business, commerce, special interest groups and PACs. Redistricting and gerrymandering will change nothing. Until people start voting and holding their elected officials accountable govt will not change.
