Mica Miller’s Attorney: John-Paul Miller Probe Has Been Ongoing For Months

Contradicting what attorneys for embattled South Carolina pastor John-Paul Miller have been asserting for months, the federal investigation of him is indeed ongoing – as evidenced by last week’s massive search of his home. Someone intimately familiar with this ongoing inquiry is Myrtle Beach, S.C.-based attorney Regina Ward – who represents the family of his late wife, Mica Miller.

In an interview with FITSNews, Ward said she received a federal grand jury subpoena on June 14, 2024 related to the files obtained during the course of her representation of both Mica – as she pursued a divorce from her estranged spouse prior to her death – and the Francis family in the aftermath or her sudden passing.

To recap: Mica was found with a gunshot wound to the head a stone’s throw from the Lumber River – a scenic blackwater river that flows into the Yadkin-Pee Dee watershed – on the afternoon of Saturday (April 27, 2024). Mica traveled to this remote location from Myrtle Beach earlier that day, and her body was discovered by police in a swampy area approximately forty meters away from where spent shell casings and her belongings were recovered.

Mica’s death was officially ruled a suicide by investigators and medical examiners. On April 28, 2024 – less than twelve hours after being notified of her death – Miller delivered a sermon at Solid Rock which closed with a bizarre announcement of her passing (and instructions to his congregants not to discuss it as they left the church).

From there, the story exploded into an international sensation – one fueling all manner of suspicion. Most of that suspicion revolved around John-Paul Miller.

While speculation has swirled as to whether a federal investigation was truly ongoing, those rumors were finally put to rest on Friday, November 1, 2024 when agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were spotted conducting a search at Miller’s Myrtle Beach residence.

Ward said it was difficult not sharing what she knew over the past four-and-a-half months.

“It’s like, you know, I’m sitting on this and I hear so many things being reported in the news and by, you know, just so many different people, and all I could do is just sit there and bite my tongue because I wanted to say, ‘wait a minute. I know it’s true,'” Ward said.

As the news of the search of Miller’s home broke – and as the involvement of the FBI became clear – the confidence of potential witnesses who have remained quiet out of fear slowly began to grow. Ward said she has already had one potential witness come forward following the search and she was able to connect them with the agents overseeing the investigation.

That’s a step she said she is willing to help with for anyone who has information related to the investigation.

“Please do call the FBI tip line if that’s where you’re comfortable,” she said.

But Ward noted if anyone was uncomfortable calling a tip line, they could reach out to her directly and she would be willing to help them facilitate a connection with the agents leading the investigation.

“When you come forward, if you are a victim or if you’re a witness, whichever category that you would be in, there would be some protections for you,” she said.

For Ward, the search of Miller’s home is a positive step in the evolution of the investigation – and in the broader campaign to achieve justice for Mica and other victims.

“It’s reenergized the interest of the public in the case, which, at this point is super critical,” she said. “There is a lot more work to be done.”

Ward also noted that while the process seems to be unfolding slowly and arduously from the outside, for her, it’s a key indicator of what is to come next.

“The wonderful thing about that search warrant is, once you know the FBI has gone in and collected all the information from there, then it’s expected – in the normal course of how these types of things happen – is that what we have already, or the FBI has already, and what they’re adding to it as a result of that search warrant, will add up to a nice level of an affidavit for a criminal indictment, or indictments,” she said.
