A professor at the University of South Carolina slammed the outcome of the 2024 presidential election this week, blaming supporters of president-elect Donald Trump for being stupid – and for holding the rest of the nation “hostage.”
“There is a reason why educated people vote blue,” professor Sueanna Smith wrote on X. “What we’re seeing is the uneducated population of America holding the rest of the country hostage.”

Smith’s X account is currently set to private, but her message – and many more like it – were cited by conservative media sites as evidence of the contempt with which academics view the taxpayers who pay their salaries.
Smith continued to fire away from her keyboard as her words began to go viral…
“Just to clarify for those who are committed to being personally offended by my previous tweet: having a college degree and being educated are not one and the same,” she wrote. “We all know how easy it is to buy a degree these days. Just ask the graduates of Trump University.”

Smith previously noted how the last Democrat who lost to Trump, Hillary Clinton, “wasn’t exactly wrong when she called Trump fanatics a ‘basket of deplorables.'”
“I’ve found a common trait among many who voted for Donald Trump: poor literacy skills,” she continued. “Even some who hold college degrees are struggling to differentiate between ‘educated’ and ‘degree-holder.'”
Smith received her PhD in English from South Carolina in 2021 – although she complained in one tweet that dating has become “unnecessarily difficult for educated women.”
It’s like men seek us out just to try to show us that they’re smarter than we are,” she wrote. “Somehow they know more than I do about the very field that I literally have a PhD in. Make it make sense.”
“To these men, ‘Making America Great Again’ means restoring their position of power and making women reliant upon them again,” Smith wrote.

Smith teaches students how to write about “protest, activism and social justice” as well as “race in popular culture.” She is also a mentor at the school’s “first-gen” center which, ironically, caters to “any individual whose parents did not complete a bachelor’s degree.”

Taxpayers subsidize $56,281 of her salary, per state records.
Curiously, Smith said her daughter was one of the “deplorables” who supported the former/future president in the recently concluded election.
”My daughter was stationed in Texas for a year,” Smith wrote. “I don’t know what is going on out there, but she left a Bernie supporter and came back MAGA. When I voted blue today, I was happily cancelling out her MAGA vote.”
To be clear: Smith has every right to voice her opinions. As a South Carolina taxpayer, I’d prefer she did so on her own time (using her own resources) but her First Amendment freedom is no more or less sacred than yours or mine. Given the extent to which colleges and universities are spending tax dollars pushing a divisive woke agenda, though, I would reiterate my previous call to immediately privatize higher education and set these institutions free to pursue their missions as they see fit.

I keep forgetting about all those well educated inner-city voters. They’re so well educated that that they don’t have to work.
She’s not even a tenure track faculty member, she’s just an Instructor. Instructors are paid by class taught, not on a salary basis. For those who don’t know, you can become an Instructor at USC with a Master’s degree and three years of real world experience. It’s easier to become a university instructor than a grade school teacher. They have to be certified. She also just received her PhD from USC in 2021, most universities won’t hire their own students to keep the “inbreeding” down. All said, it’s likely that she’s too lazy to look for work elsewhere or nobody is willing to hire her in a tenure track position.
Also, she’s not a “Professor”, that is the title of the highest position in academia. She is an Instructor.
Lecturer –> Instructor –> Assistant Professor –> Associate Professor –> Professor.
I wouldn’t say all Trump voters are “uneducated.” I would say that too many, and their hypocrisy abounds, are unChristian in the true sense of the term.

Instructor Smith, has a very high opinion of herself. As I’ve said to many, many people, having a PHD, or any higher degree of education doesn’t make you smart, it simply makes you educated! As for this liberal “racist’, who in her profile says she supports the biggest racist in S.C., Dawn Staley, may not be stupid or dumb, but she is definitely an ignorant fool. One thing is for damn sure, I would rather have a degree from Trump University and ANY college or university that would hire Smith. Our State Representatives in the House and Senate, should be better stewards of our tax dollars than to allow a State University, in a State where almost 70% of the people, disagree with her democratic rhetoric, spew their political desecration of citizens who pay their salary. One thing I know for sure about this well educated, PHD type is that although she is educated she definitely isn’t smart. Sound like the lame duck president and his garbage remarks…..
You had to bring Dawn Staley into it, didn’t you Bubba? Tell me one South Carolinian who is better in what they do than Dawn Staley. Name me one South Carolinian who has brought more pride and recognition to this state . This is a person, who despite winning three Olympic Gold Medals, three national championships, several national coach of the year awards, and too many awards to mention as a player, has managed to remain a humble, decent, approachable person who gives back to her state in many ways. Tell us, what is it that you resent most about her, the fact that she is a woman, or that she is an African-American.
Dawn Staley could do her job equally well without spouting off her political agenda… which has nothing to do with her job. She’s no different than Beyonce, Taylor Swift or any of the other entertainers and sports idols who think they’re influencing people with their political views.
I’m sure Staley’s has already crossed out her plans to take her team to the White House for the next four years which is a shame because she’s not allowing her players a chance of a lifetime based solely on her her politics.
