The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is on the lookout for two shooters – and two individuals targeted by gunfire – after deputies were dispatched to a residence in Walterboro, South Carolina where a man was shot doing yard work earlier this week.
According to CCSO, the unidentified victim was operating a weed eater on Cleveland Street when he was struck by gunfire intended for two different victims. The shooting – part of a recent escalation of violent crime in and around Walterboro – took place on Tuesday (September 10, 2024).
This violence has claimed multiple lives – including the life of a 2-year-old girl.
Prior to this week’s shooting, witnesses told deputies two unknown juvenile black males had spoken briefly with the victim in passing as they walked down the street. As they continued walking, shots rang out.
Two unknown males were observed “firing guns toward the two intended victims walking down the street” at the time the man doing yard work was hit, CCSO noted.
Deputies searched the area with K9 officers, but the intended victims and the two suspects fled the area before deputies could locate them.
“They were likely picked up in a vehicle,” CCSO’s release noted.
Acccording to CCSO, the victim was in stable condition. Deputies asked residents in the areas of Cleveland Street, Red Comet and King Street to “review their surveillance cameras” to assist them in identifying those involved in Tuesday’s shooting.
