Curtis Loftis Touts $137 Million Returned To Taxpayers

South Carolina treasurer Curtis Loftis has returned more money to Palmetto State citizens than all of his predecessors – combined.  According to Loftis, his office’s unclaimed property program returned an estimated $33 million to South Carolinians in 2017.

That brings Loftis’ total since taking office in January 2011 to more than $137 million – a sizable chunk of change.

“My unclaimed property team has done an outstanding job helping identify individuals who have money waiting for them,” Loftis said. “This is money that can change people’s lives, and we want to reunite them with funds that are rightfully theirs.”

According to Loftis, his office’s work is just beginning as more than a half billion in unclaimed property is waiting to be returned to its rightful owner.

“We still have $550 million in funds waiting to be claimed,” he said. “Everyone should check their name to see if they have unclaimed property.  You might not even know that you have money waiting for you.”
